For the past nine years, the annual Canyon Road Paint & Sculpt Out has been drawing locals and visitors to Canyon Road for the unique experiences of watching artists at work and visiting with them to chat about their processes. You are invited to join them this Saturday, October 21. So while few of us get to spend time in an artist’s studio, this is the one opportunity we have to watch the creative process. The artists are usually set up and working by 11 am, and are there until the light fades in the late afternoon. In the spirit of community outreach, our own Santa Fe Public Schools are participating with their music programs. At noon on Saturday, the Canyon Road parade begins, led by local dignitaries and more than a dozen school music groups. Throughout the day, the students are performing at various galleries along the road. Please come by and support this vital part of the arts education in our schools. The annual Canyon Road Paint & Sculpt Out has become one of the special events that brings locals, visitors, artists, and musicians together to celebrate our creative community. The weather should be wonderful—perfect for enjoying a gorgeous Santa Fe autumn day. I’ll be there, and I hope to see you there as well.

The third weekend in October brings creative people of all types together on Canyon Road to interact with the public in the 10th annual fundraiser for Santa Fe Public Schools. On Friday evening, galleries and boutiques remain open late to show new installations, host artists, and share refreshments with visitors. On Saturday, painters, sculptors, jewelers, and other artists work outside the galleries, and they welcome questions about their techniques and inspirations. On Saturday from 11:30 am until 12:45 pm, Canyon Road is closed to vehicular traffic for a parade by hundreds of music students from the Santa Fe Public Schools, who show their skills through a broad variety of musical styles. More than 150 artists are expected to participate.
