Corridor Design | Competition

MEMORIAL

The design of the memorial is aimed at expressing this loss and misfortune through architecture and built environment. The simplicity of the proposed design is to maintain the melancholy behind the history and the message the space is trying to convey. The intent behind designing a simple walled structure instead of an enclosed one was to create a space that brought more exposure to it instead of constricting it in an enclosed room, enabling everyone that visits the place to experience the bravery of the fallen and the sufferers. For the same reason, an underpass is designed to the front of the memorial as a gesture of invitation to encourage people into the space.

Corridor Design | Competition | ANDC

NASA 2018

The objective of this competition was to identify a space which is an important transitional zone connecting primary functional zones but not recognized or could be developed in a way that these spaces can be made active. The design programme intends to reinterpret any such in-between space that has been identified and can be developed.

Since image development is a two way process between observer and the observed, it is possible to strengthen the image either by symbolical devices, by retaining of the perceiver or by reshaping one’s surroundings.

There are other basic properties in a beautiful environment : • Meaning or expressiveness • Sensuous delight • Rhythm • Stimulus • Choice

Taking into consideration the above qualities, the design is done so as to making the maximum use of the space to improve the existing conditions in the betwixt space chosen.

SITE LOCATION :

Arts College Building, Osmania University

The chosen site is a passageway connecting two other corridors which in turn helps to transit to other spaces like staff rooms and classrooms. A long passage with a width of 10 m between 2 semi circular spaces with staircases running along the wall of the semi circular spaces in a symmetrical manner make up most of the site considered. The symmetrical semi circular staircases being important elements of this heritage structure is considered an important part of the design.
