The site plan is traditional, integrating the residence and accessory uses into the site’s natural topography by taking advantage of the gently sloping site. The scale of the main residence is in keeping with large size and uniform shape of the property as well as with the grand verticality of the existing redwood trees that dominate the entry experience. The desired architectural theme is vernacular of a French Country Estate, modernized and simplified with clean and minimal details giving rise to ‘Transitional Space design’. The materials include plaster, natural stone, wood and metal, in muted colors. Classic thin profile steel frame windows are arranged symmetrically. The landscape design of the project is organized as that ornamental and formal details located closest to the house, with the landscape becoming progressively less structured and more natural as it recedes towards the edges of the property. The design has a sustainable approach with features like re-usage of excavated dirt and salvaged material from the construction site.

The Gibson Residence is a customized high-end spacious, formal mansion with international influencces for the client that eflects their backgrounds, lifestyle and entertaining preferences. The main goals behind the design is creating a cohesive site plan and design for the entire property emphasizing visual relation ships and a collective harmony among buildings and elements per Woodside Design Guidelines (3.2.d)

The client focused on reimagining the site’s potential, by opening it up to create more spacious experience of the site while still preserving the privacy.

The goal is to preserve the cultural systems, provide social and economic equity and sustaianble green infrastructure through activation of urban spaces/pockets. The proposal seeks to strategise ‘Incremental Development’ by structural interventions and activations that can be accomplished over phases in time to release energy and create a positive “RIPPLE EFFECT”

West Oakland has been known for its rich culture, African-American community, power within and their rootedness. Due to large amount of disinvestment in the past, an emergence of a ‘commons platform’ with puncturing of tactical and permanent interventions is the key to overall Cypress neighborhood acti vation

02

This is an urban connectivity and placemaking concept to leverage the Mandela Parkway strip assets (residences, frontages, vacant properties, parks) into an improved “social circuit” for local businesses, artists, walking, biking, community gardening, meeting friends, and community events, all the activities that build sustainable communities. AcDU’s as a ‘Social Activator’

The policy making encompassing the sensitivity to the urban fabric, social cohesion, affordable housing options and public space activation could be the immediate strategies to be acted upon. The ground floor caters to more social and economic equity paradigms with spaces like Art museum and exhibition space outdoors with guerilla gardening and amphitheatre, retail units, restuarants and cafes, local businesses such as bike mart, saloon and antique stores. The upper floor solely acts as a pleasing option of affordable, low maintenance housing surrounded by a vibrant neighbourhood.

West Oakland historically has experienced agressive urban renewal and lack of accountability. In West Oakland, gentrification is the result of decades of actions of disinvestment, redlining, predatory lending, homelessness, evictions, lack of affordable housing, preservation and few tenant protection policies.

03

The design proposes ‘Accessory Community Dwelling Units’; a newer version of generic ADU’s that can anchor the communities, boost economy, provide a pleasing affordable housing options and encourage space activation along the 7th Street corridor in West Oakland. This cluster of ADUs will be a ‘Community Oasis’ enhancing the vitality of the historical strip and social equity. Collaborated with East Bay Perma nent Real Estate Corporation (EBPREC), a community partner from West Oakland.

This research project is set up to gather your feedback on such partnerships in order to further study their evolution.

The role of these public-private partnerships is to harness the power of the non-profit, private and govern mental sectors, especially in shaping the public realm and empowering communities. A defining aspect of many such partnerships is that most of the up-front financing and also recurring maintenance costs are taken care of by the private entity, alleviating the financial burden on government entities in the production of public urban space. The public or the government entity at times provide a capital subsidy in the form of one-time grant or donations (by participating organizations) to make the project economically viable.

Public-Private Partnership (P3’s) has been an emerging popular tool for a development of a public-space in the city. It involves a collaboration between a government agency (Public) and a private- sector company or individual (Private) to envision, finance, construct and operate public oriented projects like urban spaces, bridges, parks, convention centers etc. Also, P3’s can be taken as an effective cost-saving and innova tion-producing venture in transforming the public spaces. This has led to a new form of placemaking in the urban context.

The pavilion is designed as a seamless, undulating ring form as a reflection of Architecture, Art and De sign- a continuous process. The continuity is achieved through undefined entrance, coplanar accessibilty and space organization. The self-standing pavilion partially supported with stiff shipping containers; pro vides an interplay between malleability and rigidity. The loop embraces the shipping containers and wood en framed blocks as programs. Considering the backlot allocation, the loop encompasses a defined department arena allied with studios and activities. But the common design elements like; seating arrangements, activity stage, volunteer ki osks, working booths would act as a nuclei of all the Hula loops. A central labyrinth is the fun play for the day! Structurally, the loop is bonded with a series of planks glued horizontally and deformed to a curvilin ear form.

Architecture at California College of Arts (MAAD) Site: CCA Campus | HulaLoop |

The Hula loop explores the Redwood material in a form of ameobic and flexible space; just like the materi al itself. The proposal encourages multiplicity of usages, creating a versatile arena for spatial experiences outside-in. Analyzing the behavioural conditions of redwood planks during the 1:1 mock-up and after the collapse; the ‘Hula Loop’ loops those conditions in a circular structure. The pavilion balances both of the aspects of the material; its plasticity and on the other hand its brittleness and snapping conditions.

Urban 95 is a development initiative to identify and scale ideas for live, play and interact for young children through better public places, transport planning, early childhood services, land use policies and data management across the city of Pune. The project led the proposals work ing with the city and urban entrepreneurs to identify and scale ideas to change the way families with young children use public spaces. This include walkable neighbourhoods that cater for the basics a young family needs, public spaces close to home that attract all generations while al lowing small children to explore safely, and reliable transport that makes it easy, affordable and enjoyable for families with young children to travel where they need to go. Providing a safe, healthy and an interesting environment to all the children at a very start is the best development policy to build healthy, properous, creative and sustainable communities. A better designed public spaces where all where all the children can thrive will eventually lead to a succesful society. The Greencor | Regeneration Urbanism- ‘Post-industrial sector’- Fall 2017 Softwares used: Sketchup, Illustrator, Photoshop, Hand graphics

The concept of ‘Green Corridor’ has been envisioned to leverage the existing blue-green belt and catalyz ing the culture, green infrastructure and economy. Addition of greenscape to provide visual and physical access (“connectedness”) to nature is the prime goal. This will aim in conserving and enhancing the visual, recreational and ecological value of the surrounding infrastructure. Some of the other goals are to create transition areas (vestibules) along the blue-green corridors proving them to be a special character areas for the locals as well as the tourists. This will lead to some obvious places such as trails and viewing blinds for the transformation of the are from a industrial sector to a sustainble development. Promoting mixed use will encourage developers to invest in the development and bring in more social, environmental and econom ic stability to Vysocany. The scope of work further branches out to into housing development and design, landscaping, placemaking, streetscape and other infrastructure details

07

The site- Vysocany is located in the sector 9 of Prague and reflects historical industrial area. It is well con nected with the major transit nodes and routes from the core city. The vision for the masterplan was to focus on the renaissance of the place; maximizing and refurbishing the existing assets.

Site: Isle of Dogs, London | Bridging the gap | Public Realm- ‘Intelligent Urbanism’- Spring 2017

Softwares used: Sketchup, Illustrator, Photoshop

The larger context of South Quay is facing a huge development pressure of housing, infrastructure and placemaking due its proximity to global economic center of Canary Wharf. The 2011 Greater London au thority masterplan estimates to deliver 39,300 new market and affordable homes with 110,000 jobs creation by 2025. The area currenlt permits for 19,000 homes and only 36,000 jobs. Tower Hamlets and the Greater London Authorityare working in partnership to develop an Opportunity Area Planning Framework for the South Quay; where Millwall Docks forms a major part. The vision was to propose a development that will frame and deliver high quality, legible and inviting move ment routes, connections and public realm. Development will deliver massing in a varied but coherent urban environment that delivers active frontages, engaging spaces while maximising levels of natural light against cold winds from the south of the dock.

The project is an area analysis and design proposal within the region of Isle of Dogs in the East End of London; in the Borough of Tower of Hamlets. The site identified includes a busy thoroughfare of vehicles and pedestrians, the DLR (District Light Railway) on the north along with a canal broadening towards the Outer Docks. This forms an opportunity area, surrounded with a range of high end commercial, high density residential and leisure activities.
