There is a basic structure to the organisation of space in ‘The Carpenter centre’; the segregation of served and service areas. Served areas make up the main bulk of the building, but there are 2 service towers. One contains the main stairwell, a lift and a toilet, whilst the other is more of a secondary tower, maybe used by staff. It contains only a lift and exterior stairs.
The building’s shape is designed so that it fills the site in the most efficient way possible. The main core square shape of the building is angled so that is allows the curved shapes to fill the site and accentuates the flow of the path, which runs diagonally across the site.
CIR RCULA ATION N

2nd Floor ons by the Split into 2 sectio central path. Onee area is completely isolatted from the main and second dary stairwells and is only accesssible via a curved ramp from m the 3rd floor. The other area has a curved wall to encouragge smooth movement aroun nd the space.
ay Public Pathwa The public path tunnels through the building, allowing people to pass through aand view inside, but not enter. There is the enter the building possibility to e here as well ass link the two spaces that the e path divides, but this is not ccommon.
1st Floor
Ground Floor There are 2 entrances with a primary route towards the main stairwell. Secondary routes are e conference possible to the room, shop and secondary stairwell.
This is a basic diagram rrepresenting the circulaation through the building on each h floor. The blue line shows the primary flow w through the building, the red sho ows secondary emonstrates publlic circulation and d paths, such as and altternative routes, and the green de entran nces.
The main route ffrom the stairwell guides yyou towards the gallery. The ccurved wall emphasises the ffluid movement. The ccirculation towards the officces is secondary and not encouraged.
