The Townships Trail
Follow in the footsteps of the first waves of American, Loyalist, Irish and Scottish settlers by exploring the Townships Trail (or Chemin des Cantons), which dates back
to the late 18th century. Along the 430-kilometre route, see everything from bucolic vistas to charming heritage villages while you explore the rich and storied history of the Eastern Townships as told through architecture, museums and various attractions along the way. Grab your loved ones and hit the road!
Fun stops along the way…
Georgeville, to shop the general store and watch the sunset from the pier. Barnston-Ouest, for its architectural heritage including late 19th century churches, Holmes Round Barn and one of the smallest fire stations in Quebec.
Windsor Powder Mill to discover the site of Quebec’s oldest black powder mill and hike scenic trails. Haskell Free Library and Opera House, a building deliberately erected on the Canada-United States border in Stanstead.
La Ruée Vers Gould Inn, in Lingwick, for traditional Scottish cuisine in an oldworld setting.
