PROFESSIONAL WORK CHICAGO THREE-FLATS
Residential development in a Chicago neighborhood. Created a site plan displaying the apartment units, street access, sidewalks, and adjacent parking on the site. Also, digitally modeled the units in Rhino and created renders of particular camera views in 3ds Max. These were used as underlays for sketches made to show the overall feeling that the development would have. The site plan as well as the drawings were assembled onto four boards that were used for a proposal to the town.

PROFESSIONAL WORK JNJ CONSUMER GMP LABS Renderings for Lab Expansion in Skillman NJ. esigned six new lab spaces for Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies headquarters in Skillman, D NJ. The new lab spaces would be built in an existing building and used to develop and test new bath products. Multiple layouts were drawn in AutoCad to present to the scientists who would be using the new labs. Also, created renderings for the design that was chosen using Rhino, 3ds Max, and Photoshop.

Undergraduate Thesis... A furniture factory in downtown Chicago Fabrication Tower examines how the program of the factory can be re-inserted into the urban fabric when reinterpreted within the typological condition of the office tower. The office tower typology acts as the testing ground for the future vertical factory within the city. By vertically stitching together the processes of design and manufacturing, Fabrication Tower explores the impact that production has on shaping the urban landscape.

Fabrication Tower is a small-scale furniture factory that is sited in downtown Chicago, Illinois; a city that once thrived on the industry at its center. The typology of the office tower is re-interpreted to intertwine the traditionally separated programs of design and manufacturing. The designer, fabricator, and entire production process are supported within the tower. Three floors of public retail space exist on the lower levels of the building allowing the public to be engaged in the early stages of the process, along with the final product. The way in which the building reveals and conceals the assembly process to the city is explored through the relationship between the facade and its reaction to interior programmatic functions. Formally, the tug of war that exists between the interior function of the building and its more formally driven enclosure begins to shape the new urban landscape of production.

VERTICAL ASSEMBLY LINE THE PLATFORM
Located at the confluence of the Chicago River, the project site is adjacent to the Chicago Sun Times and Merchandise Mart. A large plaza spans from Merchandise Mart Drive and leads the public into a small cafe and three floors of retail space within the building. The plaza and outdoor area surrounding the cafe steps down to the waterfront. A large space for delivery and material access is located on the northwest corner of the building. There is a drop-off for employees to the southwest which is adjacent to a public dock and waterfront park space.

Spatially and programmatically the building is organized so that design and fabrication happen simultaneously throughout, and are in constant collaboration with one another. Design and fabrication are organized around a large central atrium space containing a vertical assembly line. There are ten overall design and assembly steps to the process that are made possible by a series of platforms. A horizontal loop is taken at each level, or stage, and contributes to the main vertical flow of the fabrication process.

A tug of war exists between ideal functional planning and the creation of a cohesive, iconic structure. The initial form was derived from stacking the purely functional and programmatic floor plans. Four overall volumes to enclose the main components of the building were then created. Heavy machinery along with public space is contained on the first few levels. Initial stages of design and material testing make up the second volume above. The third, or the large cantilever, holds the main components of construction and assembly space. Finally, the fourth volume contains space for marketing and private events. Formally, these moves allow for smaller office atrium spaces to exist on the exterior.

POROUS TOWER
PT1 (POROUS TOWER) Typology which celebrates verticality on the interior The contemporary office tower fails to harness its best asset; verticality. The current stacked slab tower only offers lateral options. PT1 possess a sense of verticality on the interior. An exterior modular system is used to peel away at the corners of the tower. This creates openings through the exterior of the tower allowing vision straight through the interior both horizontally and vertically. The floor plates are derived from a system of stacked and rotated L-shaped slabs. This allows for an interior atrium condition while the exterior skin creates conditions of public space comprising of various exterior urban gardens and cafe’s.

Quarantine: An investigation of the correlation between touch and sight....using Grasshopper 0.8 and basic circuitry
We can see a texture and process the surface without ever touching it. In the same way, if we were blindfolded and touched a texture, we can create a visual image through the sense of touch, without seeing it. So what happens when the sense of touch is isolated from sight and augmented into another form? A visual image of what is inside the box is formed in the mind of the user, but what is mapped for the user to see displays a different visual image.

MASTERPLAN FOR DOWNTOWN BLACKSBURG, VA
A stretched zone of activity for 30 acres on the fringe of downtown.
The prompt for this project was to design a mixed-use, planned urban development for a 30 acre site on the southern fringe of downtown Blacksburg. The strategy was to create a stretched zone of activity by creating a loop through the site with programmatic elements needed by the town. The central zone of activity features a large plaza that spills out from South Main Street creating a front porch to downtown. On the other side of the plaza is a hotel which is seen as the new gateway and icon for Blacksburg. Behind the hotel is a large urban park that ties together the adjacent commercial and residential units. A prototype block was designed as a strategy for the residential and commerical units that would exists around the central loop.

HOTEL IN BLACKSBURG MASTERPLAN A gateway and beacon for downtown Blacksburg
Although the small town of Blacksburg began with the historic 16 blocks, history has transferred the hierarchical upper hand to Virginia Tech. The school uses void and procession to announce itself to visitors from Main Street in a way that the town itself has never done. Having a site adjacent to one of the most trafficked boundaries of downtown, a hotel is proposed as a symbolic gateway to the historic town. The hotel becomes a landmark that announces the town at the head of a large plaza, a void that confronts Main Street and stitches itself into the fabric of the main thoroughfare to downtown.
