architecture without function - diploma project The concept of the project is pretty simple. its a platform on the level of the bridges which connects through a series of ramps to the lower floor plan. the structure is created by the walls enclosing the ramps and a series of columns in a 30 m grid. the shape of the platform is dictated by the site plan. a spatial garden is created, an array of columns which change in position and shape to create a sequence of spaces always different from each other but still working as a whole. the idea was to create a platform flexible for different use and expansion, able to be reimagined every time a different function is needed especially in today’s society when the pace of change is so fast that we need to keep adapting accordingly.

housing my initial idea is to create gardens which are part of a building not in a complementary way, but rather as the main space of a house reminiscing the idea of a private villa in the suburbs, but instead finding yourself in the middle of a city. every apartment unit develops on two floor of different heights, the more public areas in direct view from the garden while the bedrooms open on the street and the internal neighbourhood courtyard in the lower floor plan. the whole building is elevated from the ground, creating a parking space on ground level while also giving a more fragile character to the building, as sort of suspended on these dense urban texture. there is only one apartment for floor, to reinforce the idea of a private household not a communal living. once you reach the floor, one enters immediately in the garden, which serves as the foyer of the apartment. the house is divided in 3 spaces, with different heights to accentuate the passage from a space to another. the shape of the garden is given by the necessity for more light and earth for the plants. the rest of the house develops between the street and the garden, creating a private serene atmosphere inside of the house while at the same time creating a space which can be imagined as part of the public life of the city, a garden of the neighbourhood.

inhabit the landscape the house was built on the perimeter of the already existing structure. the functions were divided in different moments and a winery serves as a complimentary function for the villa. the house rests between two different terrains, and is protected by all sides from a wall from the wind and sand. the gardens serve as gathering spaces for the inhabitants, and different views on the territory are created from each unique space.

a school on a hill / south of france the idea is simple. the landscape suggests that the most interesting point to build the school in on the rocky terrain. the form follows the landscape and it is situated on two levels. children’s classrooms are upstairs and additional services and functions on the ground floor. the only immediate view on the city is on the terraces upstairs, the rest needs to be discovered through. always side windows, better views on the sea, little pieces of panorama. a bare facade, no distractions but an intricate form.

housing in paris a housing complex in the suburban area of paris where the main achievable goal became creating a new connection to the already existing public space. two similar volumes, in front of each other. a simple composition that becomes more interesting because of the facades. the main living areas are facing the central courtyard to create a mini urban space specifically for this project. on the street is almost a completely closed facade, except the main entrances because there was no quality in my opinion in the sorroundings in terms of view.

housing in mallorca the project is situated in an already existing building so the boundaries are already defined. the goal was to achieve more natural light inside the apartements, hence the main patio. the old walls are maintained throughout the building making more natural the merge of old and new. the apartments living space face the main patio through a series of balconies, while the rooms open on a small terrace for more privacy. the patio serves as a social space and different public functions are located on the ground floor, making the building accessible to the public.

a mosque in porto ramp - garden - building the whole project is based on this concept. a series of ramps connect the buildings and the in-between gardens. a spiritual path to reach the highest point where the mosque is situated. in the other buildings a library and a multipurpose area serve as a meeting point for the community. the mosque is divided in two levels, in accordance to the muslim culture, the women and men praying area are separated. the services serve to divide the different spaces inside.
