“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening. -Coco Chanel

Victoria’s Secret Fall/Winter Forecast 2014

Trend Forecasting Spring Semester

compile a forecasting/creative direction book for a specific brand or customer persona description. This book can analyze either the women’s, men’s, or children’s market but the results need to be presented in a manner that would inform a company’s designers, and his or hers product development teams, of the upcoming key fashion and consumer trends for the Fall/Winter 2014 season.

Victoria’s Secret The brand Victoria’s Secret is for the sexy, confident, outgoing woman. She is fun and playful with a sensual side, but she wants to be taken seriously. She is a professional woman who earns a comfortable income and has extra money to spare on luxuries. She’s a fashionista and wants clothes to make her feel good about herself inside and out.

Victoria’s Secret 2012 Backcast At Victoria’s Secret 2012 fashion show, we saw a lot of new trends in lingerie that were inspired by trends on the runway. One trend we saw, Paradise, used bold bright colors. The next trend was Lace; lace is a material that will always be used in the lingerie industry, but for Fall/Winter 2014 lace will be directly inspired by sportswear and will be modernized.

From the Outside In The mega trend, “From the Outside In”, for Fall Winter 2014, is about transparency and how runway fashion affects the lingerie industry. In today’s culture, there is a lot of fear. Fear of the unknown and the hidden. There is war, terrorism, and even fear of impure and harmful food products. As a result of these fear and trust issues people want everything and everyone to be transparent. This has launched a major trend for designers: sheer, transparent designs. Undergarments and lingerie are now becoming much more important. Through the years, undergarments have become much more socially and culturally acceptable- not only to talk about and shop for, but to show off. The mega trend “From the Outside In” shows how lingerie designers must respond to this shift by keeping up with the trends of clothing designers. The trends on the runway directly affect trends in lingerie.

Paradise One way to conquer this fear we are experiencing is to escape to paradise. Consumers are dreaming of a land where the weather is warm, there are beautiful sights, and they don’t have a care in the world. This sub trend is defined by bold colors and prints. Designers will draw inspiration from exotic, tropical flowers and trees, and all of nature.

Forecast For Fall/Winter 2014, there will be more bright, exotic colors on the runway. Use of graphic, floral, and tribal prints will be dominant. The abstract prints we see in sportswear will inspire the more commercial prints in lingerie. The colors of both sportswear and lingerie will stay very similar, with an emphasis on highly saturated colors.

Color and Fabric There will be a lot of fabrics with shine, and designers will mix fabrics. Bold prints on nylon and spandex fabrics will showcase these strong, vibrant colors by using flowers as inspiration.

Lace Lace has always been popular in the lingerie industry because of its sexy and sophisticated, yet soft and delicate style. Lace is ever changing and being modernized. This season lace is extremely important both on the runway and in lingerie. Designers will modernize it by using abstract patterns and dark colors. With the transparency of lace, we will see layered effects.

Forecast For Fall/Winter 2014 we will see lace get darker and more colorful. Lace will still be sheer but it will be layered with fabric underneath it. Cut outs and more modern lace will start to arise. Silhouettes will be tighter and sleeker.
