Sarah Kenney is Chancellor’s Fellow at the University of Tennessee, where she is receiving two Master’s Degrees in Architecture and Landscape Architecture. As a former Manhattan florist, her master’s thesis focuses on conflict in the global cut flower industry, which tends to manifest in tightly controlled landscapes around the world. In winter 2020, she traveled independently to Kenya for 2 months of field research on the relationship between the cut flower industry and local architecture. In addition to “Conflict Bloom,” Sarah has received grants to study conflict, reciprocity, and water in the architecture of China, Italy, Vietnam, France, and Iceland. She plans to work for the United Nations Human Settlement Program, focusing on justice oriented architectural practices in floriculture enclaves.
