1. Alabama Crimson Tide
LB QB LB DB DL DL WR RB
No surprise here, Alabama dominated LSU in the national championship game and dominated everyone else in recruiting. They received help at every position and difference makers at almost every position. That group includes one of the nation’s premier RB’s T.J. Yeldon (6-2, 210) from Daphne, AL; it also includes such other in-state standouts as DT Alphonse Taylor (6-6, 340) of Mobile; blue chip and Semper Fi AllAmerican Darren Lake of York, a 6-3, 330 pound DT; the top prospect in northern Alabama LB Reggie Ragland (6-3, 240) of Madison; LB Tyler Hayes (6-3, 220) of Thomasville; long committed OL Caleb Gulledge (6-4, 260) of Prattville; and LB Ryan Anderson (6-3, 240) of Daphne. Not that they needed help along the junior college ranks but they did land two of the very best in DB Travell Dixon (6-2, 200) of Eastern Arizona JC, and Deion Belue (6-0, 170) of Northeast Mississippi C.C.
Quite an impressive Lonestar haul but they weren’t done quite yet. Texas went out of state to land JC All-American DT Brandon Moore (66, 330) of East Mississippi C.C.; JC All-American OL Donald Hawkins (6-5, 310) of Northwest Mississippi C.C.; the top prospect in northern Louisiana LB Torshiro Davis (6-3, 220) of Shreveport; and of course QB Connor Brewer (6-2, 200) of Scottsdale, AZ and one of the nation’s premier signal callers.
Impact Player–FS Landon Collins (6-1, 205) of Geismer Dutchtown, LA ranks #10 in our top 100. He was the state’s Player of the Year rushing for 1,218 yds and 21 TDs and totaling 45 tackles and 4 picks at FS.
Impact Player–RB Johnathan Gray is the state of Texas Player of the Year after rushing 2,422 yds and 47 TDs. He rushed for 10,908 yds and scored an eye-popping 205 TDs.
Sleeper–Semper Fi All-American DT Darren Lake (6-3, 330) of York Sumpter County, AL proved to be unstoppable in the Semper Fi practices this January. A bit raw, but he has All-American potential.
Sleeper–In a class like this it’s tough to find a sleeper but let’s go with Camrhon Hughes (6-7, 280) from Harker Heights, TX. I watched him perform down in Phoenix at the Semper Fi game and was impressed with his footwork and body control, he needs to work on his strength but should weigh 310 in college.
Bottom Line–Head Coach Nick Saban has proven to be not only the best coach but also the best recruiter in the country. His hobby has been recruiting and he has proven to be tremendous at it. He’s a driven, aggressive, personable, and instinctive recruiter with a staff that can not only evaluate but develop players as well as any school in the country. 6-3, 240 6-2, 295 6-0, 170 5-11, 180 6-1, 205 6-1, 170 6-2, 230 6-2, 200 6-1, 205 6-3, 240 6-5, 292 5-10, 175 6-4, 260 5-11, 180 6-4, 270 6-3, 330

The Longhorns did most of their recruiting last February and were able to hand onto the majority of their top prospects and add a couple along the way. It is a typical Longhorn group with the majority of the players coming from Texas and it includes such superstars as RB Johnathan Gray (6-0, 195) of Aledo; DT Malcom Brown (6-2, 280) of Brenham, one of the nation’s top two defensive tackles; LB Tim Cole (6-2, 220) of Brenham; Semper Fi All-American DT Paul Boyette (6-4, 280) of Humble; Semper Fi All-American LB Alex De LaTorre (6-2, 225) of Denton; All-American tackle Kennedy Estelle (6-7, 300) of Pearland; LB Peter Jinkens (6-1, 210) of Dallas; one of the nation’s top two wide receivers Cayleb Jones (6-2, 200) of Austin who is a prep superstar with the skills to start for four years; OL Curtis Riser (6-3, 280) of DeSoto; one of the top two prospects in northeast Texas DB Kendall Sanders of Athens; Semper Fi All-American OT Camrhon Hughes (6-7, 280) from Harker Heights; an DE Hassan Ridgeway (6-4, 255) of Mansfield.
The Crimson Tide also ventured into Louisiana pulling out two of that state’s top three prospects including the #1 overall and the nation’s premier FS Landon Collins (6-1, 205) of Geismer, and LB Denzel Devall (6-2, 230) of Bastrop. Also keep an eye on super talented athlete Cyrus Jones (5-11, 180) of Baltimore, MD; DT Korren Kirven (6-4, 270) of Lynchburg, VA, and WR Amari Cooper (6-1, 170) of Miami, FL.

2. Texas Longhorns
They also crossed into Georgia landing one of the nation’s premier cover corners Geno Smith (5-11, 180) of Atlanta; super quick and instinctive LB Dillon Lee (6-4, 225) of Buford; one of the nation’s top two kickers Adam Griffin, a Semper Fi All-American from Calhoun; TE Kurt Freitag (6-3, 240) of Buford; hard charging RB Kenyan Drake (6-1, 205) of Powder Springs; super strong NG Dakota Ball (6-2, 290) of Lindale; and right near signing day blue chip DT Dalvin Tomlinson (6-2, 270) of McDonough. From Florida comes premier WR Chris Black of Jacksonville, and blue chip Eddie Williams, a 6-4, 200 pound FS who played through some injuries this season but is still considered one of the nation’s premier defenders from Panama City, FL.

Bottom Line–There has not been a better recruiter over the past 15 years than Mac Brown. He seems to have the state of Texas locked up early and rarely has to leave the state. This is an exceptional class loaded from top to bottom with blue chippers and a significant amount of ball players who could see playing time as true freshman.

3. Ohio State Buckeyes Just when you thought the Buckeyes were dead in the water, here comes Urban Meyer to save the day. This past summer looked like just about every top prospect was ready to jump ship and Coach Meyer has steadied that ship. Now that the smoke has cleared it looks like the Buckeyes have put together one heck of a recruiting class. In state they may have lost a few top prospects to Michigan, one to Tennessee, and one to Northwestern, but overall they recovered nicely. They landed DE Se’Von Pittman (6-5, 245) of Canton who had previously committed to Michigan State; underrated TE Blake Thomas (6-4, 245) of Cleveland; top 100 DE Adolphus Washington (6-5, 230) of Cincinnati; and the state’s top two RB prospects in Bri’onte Dunn (6-2, 220) of Canton and Warren Ball (6-2, 205) of Columbus. They took Taylor Decker (6-8, 300) from Vandalia away from Notre Dame. They are also excited about DB Najee Murray of Steubenville; blue chip LB Josh Perry (6-3, 230) of Galena, OH; All-American DB Tyvis Powell (6-4, 190) of Bedford; LB Luke Roberts (6-2, 230) of Lancaster; and WR Frank Epitropoulos (6-3, 190) of Upper Arlington.
They also crossed the border into Ohio and came away with several top-notch stars. They took advantage of Ohio State’s problems this summer coming away with the Toledo Player of the Year DE Chris Wormley (6-6, 270); TE A.J. Williams (6-6, 265) of Cincinnati; All-State DE Tom Strobel (6-6, 250) of Mentor; the state’s #1 prospect OL Kyle Kalis (6-5, 300) of Lakewood; the state’s top FS prospect Jarrod Wilson (6-2, 190) of Akron; hard hitting and super swift LB Kaleb Ringer (6-0, 220) of Clayton; All-State LB Joe Bolden (6-3, 230) of Cincinnati; and DB Allen Gant (6-2, 205) of Sylvania. Michigan wasn’t through yet bringing to Ann Arbor such national stars as WR Amara Darboh (6-2, 190) of West Des Moines, IA; underrated WR Jehu Chesson (6-3, 190) of St. Louis, MO; All-American and the 81st player in our top 100 Erik Magnuson (6-6, 275) of Carlsbad, CA; and 1st Team All-State DT Ondre Pipkins (6-3, 310) of Kansas City, MO. This class was very much set in stone by the holidays but they did land super swift WB Dennis Norfleet (5-7, 170) of Detroit King on signing day.
Sleeper–Keep an eye on DB Tyvis Powell (6-4, 190) from Bedford, OH. He has been timed in a 4.48, shows great range, is not afraid to hit, and can run like CB. Bottom Line–Back in April I had mentioned in a national newspaper that there were only two coaches that could come in and save the day for the Buckeyes, Nick Saban or Urban Meyer. Well, the Buckeyes got the latter and their fans are sure glad they did. He is a relentless, tough, aggressive, and personable recruiter who will consistently bring in a top ten class year after year. 6-2, 205 6-0, 175 6-2, 275

Head coach Brady Hoke entered this recruiting season looking for players that can fit into his style of play, smash mouth football with tough, aggressive players and now that the smoke has cleared they certainly landed more than their share. Locally they dominated the start of Michigan, thanks in good part to assistant coach Fred Jackson, bringing home such notables as LB James Ross (6-0, 210) of Orchard Lake; super swift CB Terry Richardson of Detroit; underrated DE Matt Godin (6-6, 270) Of Novi; tall, athletic tackle Ben Braden (6-6, 280) of Rockford; one of the Midwest finest all around athletes TE/WR Devin Funchess (6-5, 210) of Farmington Hills; underrated RB Drake Johnson (6-2, 200) of Ann Arbor; one of the country’s finest defensive players DE Mario Ojemudia (6-2, 220) of Farmington Hills; and blue chip LB Royce Jenkins-Stone (6-2, 215) of Detroit.
Impact Player–DE Noah Spence ranks 3rd in the top 100 at 6-3, 230 with 4.5 speed from Harrisburg Bishop McDevitt, PA. This fall he totaled 82 tackles, 14 sack, and was voted Pennsylvania’s Defensive Player of the Year. He should make an impact as a true freshman.

4. Michigan Wolverines
One of the country’s top two defensive players has climbed aboard DE Noah Spence of Harrisburg, PA, he had 60 sacks over the past three years. They also took a couple of players away from Penn State’s recruiting class LB Camren Williams (6-2, 215) of West Roxbury, MA and the state of Illinois’ top defensive player Tommy Schutt (6-3, 300) of Glen Ellyn, IL. Coming aboard late was OL Joey O’Connor (6-4, 300) of Windsor, CO. Keep an eye on two Cleveland Glenville products DB De’van Bogard and QB Cardale Jones, a 6-5, 220 pounder with a rifle arm and 4.6 speed. The Buckeyes had a very big signing day landing super Semper Fi CB Armani Reeves (5-10, 185) from West Roxbury, MA; underrated LB Jamal Marcus (6-2, 230) of Durham, NC; and former Wisconsin commitment OT Kyle Dodson (6-6, 310) of Cleveland, OH.

Impact Player–OL Kyle Kalis (6-5, 300) of Lakewood St. Edward, OH played through a rash of injuries this season and still dominated from his LT position. Big, strong, and tough, he has what it takes to make an immediate impact for the Wolverines.

Sleeper–DE Mario Ojemudia (6-2, 220) of Farmington Hills Harrison, MI. I’ve given him four-stars plus for the past year but most people don’t have him rated nearly that high. All I can say is watch film on Mario and you will see an explosive, instinctive, and tough pass rusher with a relentless style of play.
310) of Boynton Beach, FL. The Gators didn’t need a who lot of help at RB but they certainly got it in 6-3, 220 pound Matt Jones of Seffner, FL, a big back with excellent speed and strength. On signing day blue chip DE Dante Fowler (6-3, 230) of St. Petersburg, FL had a change of mind switching from FSU to Florida; they also landed junior college All-American DT Damien Jacobs (6-4, 290) of East Mississippi C.C.; and former Penn State commitment QB Skyler Mornhingweg, a Semper Fi All-American from Philadelphia.

He needs to add weight and strength but has the long arms, quick burst, and instincts to become a superior pass rusher. Bottom Line–The organization and evaluating skills of this Florida Gators staff are unapproachable. 5. Florida Gators The Gators have been consistent throughout this recruiting season. They knew they needed help on the defensive side of the ball and more than filled their needs. That group is an impressive one and consists of such local standout defenders as DT Dante Phillips (6-5, 260) of Venice; blue chip DB Brian Poole (5-10, 185) of Bradenton; DE Bryan Cox of Fort Lauderdale; and DB Willie Bailey (6-1, 170) of Hallandale. This group also includes such out of state supers as JC All-American Damien Jacobs (6-4, 290) of East Mississippi CC, a defender who expects to come in and start this fall; it also includes DT JaFar Mann (6-4, 270) of Stone Mountain, GA; DB Rhaheim Ledbetter (5-11, 195) of Boiling Springs, NC; super DE Jonathan Bullard (6-4, 260) of Shelby, NC; one of Georgia’s top defensive Quinteze Williams (6-4, 290) of Tyrone; tall, lanky, and super quick DE Alex McCalister from Clemmons, NC; and one of the top defensive players in the Midwest LB Antonio Morrison (6-3, 220) of Bolingbrook, IL. This defense group also includes Marcus Maye (6-1, 195) of Melbourne, FL who is a defender who could play either CB or FS.

6. Florida State Seminoles This season the Seminoles decided to deal in quality rather than quantity and it sure paid off starting with super DE prospect Mario Edwards (6-3, 270) of Denton, TX and continued with all-everything top 100 running back Mario Pender (6-0, 190) of Cape Coral, FL. Of course they signed one of the nation’s top two signal callers Jameis Winston (6-4, 200) of Hueytown, AL.
On the offensive side of the ball keep an eye on the nation’s premier TE prospect Kent Taylor (6-5, 220) of Land O’Lakes, FL who is a sure handed receiver who can split out and play WR, and Colin Thompson (6-5, 255) of Warminster, PA who is an underrated receiver with outstanding blocking skills. A couple of great OL prospects are D.J. Humphries (6-5, 265) of Charlotte, NC is one of the country’s top five OL’s, and when you talk about potential you are talking about Jessamen Dunker (6-6,
They also made their presence known in-state landing WR Ricardo Louis (6-1, 190) of Miami Beach; DT Dalvon Stuckey (6-4, 290) of De Funiak Springs; DB P.J. Also keep an eye on out of state prospects QB Sean Maguire (6-4, 200) of West Orange, NJ; TE Christo Kourtzidis (6-4, 230) of Orange, CA; along with DT Justin Shanks (6-3, 310) of

March 2012 Dortch of Ft. Myers. On signing day they inked blue chip all-everything CB Tracy Howard (5-11, 175) of Miramar, which gives them four superior cover corners.
Prattville, AL. FSU landed one of the fastest players in the country when they inked Ronald Darby (5-11, 178) of Oxon Hill, MD, a super talent at DB and RB. The nation’s #17 prospect and the top DT Eddie Goldman (6-4, 290) of Washington D.C. totaled 40 tackles and 5½ sacks in 2011. And DB Colin Blake (6-3, 190) of San Antonio, TX.
Impact Player–RB Randy Johnson, a 5-9, 180 pounder from Miami Norland really came into his own during the 2011 season and proved to be the most explosive and productive offensive player in the state of Florida. He should be an impact player as a true freshman for the Canes.
Impact Player–QB Jameis Winston (6-4, 200) of Hueytown, AL is the state’s Offensive Player of the Year and the most athletic QB in the country. He’s a good enough baseball prospect to possibly go in the first round next June. The Seminoles are hoping Mr. Winston doesn’t wind up doing what Joe Mauer did twelve years ago.
Sleeper–QB David Thompson (6-2, 200) of Miami Westminster Christian, FL has a rifle arm, good running instincts and is a leader both on and off the field. The only question is whether he will go baseball or football. He is already the career leader in homeruns for the state of Florida and still has one season left to play.
Sleeper–There aren’t many sleepers in this class but keep an eye on QB Sean Maguire (6-4, 200) of West Orange Seton Hall Prep, NJ. Not yet a finished prospect but he shows the arm strength and instincts needed to make it at the next level.
Bottom Line–A year ago I did several newspaper interviews and said that I’d be surprised if Miami doesn’t finish in the top 10, and despite an ongoing investigation, the Canes came through with flying colors. Head coach Al Golden, in his first year as Miami’s head coach, not only proved he is one of the nation’s top coaches but also showed what everyone knew already, that he ranks among the country’s top five recruiters. His staff showed great organization and proved to be an aggressive, non-stop bunch with a tremendous work ethic.
Bottom Line–The Seminoles have made their presence known throughout the northern half of the state of Florida and in Alabama. They needed help at the QB position and they landed two blue chippers. They are also excited about their defensive line prospects. This is a very fast and athletic class. K P DB WR DE DB DE LB OT DT TE WR QB LB RB DT DT OL DB QB

7. Miami Hurricanes Miami went into this recruiting year needing help at every position and now that the smoke has cleared they fill their needs at every position. On the offensive side of the ball they are excited about the three QB prospects Preston Dewey of Austin, TX; David Thompson of Miami; and Gray Crow of Clearwater. RB Randy Johnson (5-9, 180) of Miami was South Florida’s Offensive Player of the Year in 2011 but also keep an eye on Danny Dillard (6-2, 205) of Venice who is a back with strength and vision. At receiver the best might be prep school standout Robert Lockhart of Fork Union but also keep an eye on Angelo Jean-Louis of Palm Beach who could play WR or DB in college.

8. Oklahoma Sooners The Sooners are well deserving of their high ranking. As always, they did a good job in the state of Texas landing QB Trevor Knight (6-2, 195) of San Antonio; two outstanding OL prospects in John Michael McGee (6-4, 260) of Texarkana and 6-7, 310 pound Kyle Marrs from San Antonio; DB Daniel Brooks (5-10, 170) from Port Lavaca; and DB Zack Sanchez (6-0, 175) of Keller. But this wasn’t your typical Oklahoma class because they ventured far out of their comfort zone and it paid off big-time. They landed RB David Smith (6-1, 190) from the Chicago area; blue chip LB Eric Striker (6-1, 195) of Seffner, FL; DE/TE Charles Tapper (6-4, 260) of Baltimore, MD; super blue chip WR Durron Neal (6-1, 200) of St. Louis, MO; former PFR All-American WR Trey Metoyer (6-2, 200) of
The Canes needed help along the defensive line and certainly got it with the signing of DE Jelani Hamilton (6-5, 250) of Ft. Lauderdale; All-American DE Tyriq McCord (6-3, 225) of Tampa; All-American DT Earl Moore (6-2, 280) of Tampa; and underrated but super quick Gabe Terry (6-3, 215) of Wellington, FL. The Canes are also excited about one of the more aggressive and hard hitting backers in the state of Florida Reggie Northrup (6-2, 220) of Jacksonville. The secondary group is led by Deon Bush who is an All-American from Miami and it also included Larry Hope of Miami; Rayshawn Jenkins of St. Petersburg and Nate

9. USC Trojans
Hargrave Military Academy; sure handed TE Laith Harlow (6-5, 240) of Tallahassee, FL; Sam Grant, a 6-6, 240 TE from Cleveland, OH; and JC All-American TE Brannon Green (6-4, 260) of Ft. Scott C.C.
Because of NCAA restrictions, USC was only allowed to sign fifteen players this year and they still came in ninth in the country. That’s a testament to the recruiting prowess of their head coach Lane Kiffin and his ability to recruit the nation. This season they stayed mainly in California, no reason not to. Although they did pull in the nation’s #13th rated prospect ATH Nelson Agholor (6-2, 180) of Tampa, FL; quick footed, long armed, and intense DE Leonard Williams (6-5, 255) of Daytona Beach, FL; and the #21 rated player OL Zach Banner (6-8, 310) of Lakewood, WA.
Speaking of junior college All-Americans the Sooners are excited about Will Latu, a 6-5, 310 pound OL from College of the Canyon; DE Chaz Nelson (6-3, 240) of Garden City C.C.; and RB Damien Williams (6-1, 215) of Arizona Western C.C. Another big out of state catch was WR Derrick Woods (6-1, 185) of Inglewood, CA, one of the very best receivers in a state loaded with big-time pass catchers. Locally it was not a good year in the state of Oklahoma but they did land WR Sterling Shepard, a 5-10, 175 pound speedster from Oklahoma City; DE Michael Onuoha (6-5, 230) of Edmond; and RB Alex Ross (6-1, 205) of Jenks. Also, one of the nation’s top three center prospects is heading to Norman Ty Darlington (6-3, 275) of Apopka, FL. As if they did not get enough tight ends in this class one of the nation’s top two is Taylor McNamara (6-5, 240) of San Diego, CA has climbed on board.
The two JC players are All-Americans DB Gerald Bowman (6-1, 215) of Pierce C.C. and DE Morgan Breslin (6-3, 255) of Diablo Valley C.C. In state it reads like a who’s who of All-Americans including Semper Fi standout LB Scott Starr (6-3, 230) of Norco; Jabari Ruffin, a 6-4, 230 pound LB from Downey with All-American skills; one of the state’s top two TE’s Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick (6-5, 250) of Rocklin; sure handed and quick footed WR Darreus Rogers (6-2, 195) of Carson; two talented and quick DB’s Kevon Seymour of Pasadena and Devian Shelton of Inglewood; and two of the state’s top four OL prospects Max Tuerk (6-6, 295) of Santa Margarita and Jordan Simmons, a 6-5, 320 pound top 100 prospect from Encino.
Impact Player–Keep an eye on the number 48th ranked player in the country Durron Neal (6-1, 200) of St. Louis DeSmet, MO. This season he earned St. Louis area Offensive Player of the Year honors after catching 35 passes for 825 yds and 15 TDs averaging 23½ yds per catch. He also carried the ball 78 times for 716 yds and 11 scores, and threw for 105 yds and 2 scores, and returned 2 kickoffs back for TDs.
Impact Player–WR Nelson Agholor rushed for 1,983 yds and 28 TDs on his way to earning All-Tampa area honors for the second year in a row. He has played RB, WR, DB, and returned kicks. One of the most explosive players in the country.
Sleeper–I would go with either LB Eric Striker or DE Charles Tapper. The 6-1, 195 pound Striker helped lead his team to a state title this year making plays from sideline to sideline. The sure handed TE and quick footed DE Mr. Tapper of Baltimore, MD shows explosive moves and a tenacious style of play.
Sleeper–DB Kevon Seymour (6-0, 180) from Pasadena Muir, CA is a talented cover corner with explosive moves to the ball, loose hips, and shows the ability to turn and run with the swiftest of receivers.
Bottom Line–Head coach Bob Stoops has proven over the past ten years that he ranks among the very best of recruiting head coaches. Like all the successful ones, recruiting is more of a hobby than a chore and he helped the Sooners branch out nationally much more than they have done in the past, and quite successfully, I might add. Bottom Line–Nothing seems to de-rail the USC Trojans. With only forty five scholarships to give over the next three years you would think the talent level would drop. Instead it is staying the same and might even be better than a couple of years ago. The Trojans really helped themselves at WR, DE, and DB.

11. Stanford Cardinal
It was not a great year in the state of South Carolina for talent but there were a couple of gems including the state’s #1 prospect Shaq Roland, a WR/DB of Lexington. They also managed to sign other local prospects like RB Kendric Salley (5-10, 210) of Williston; WR Kwinton Smith, a 6-4, 210 pounder with sure hands and deceptive speed from Dillon; and an underrated and potentially outstanding tackle Mason Zandi (6-7, 265) of Chapin. Two players from Stephenson High in Stone Mountain, GA will be heading to Columbia in blue chip DT Carlos Hood (6-4, 270) and DB Kyle Fleetwood (5-11, 190).
Without a doubt this has to rank as one of the best Stanford classes in the past twenty years. They loaded up at every position except quarterback but didn’t neglect the offensive side of the ball. Heading to Stanford will be such outstanding offensive lineman as Nick Davidson (6-6, 280) of Eden Prairie, MN; Johnny Caspers (6-3, 270) of Glen Ellyn, IL; Graham Shuler (6-5, 275) of Brentwood, TN; one of the top three players in Utah OL Brandon Fanaika (6-3, 295) of Pleasant Grove; and three of the nation’s top seven in Kyle Murphy (6-7, 275) of San Clemente, CA; super talented Josh Garnett (6-5, 305) of Puyallup, WA; and prep superstar Andrus Peat (6-7, 290) of Tempe, AZ.
The difference between a good class and a very good class for South Carolina is their Georgia recruiting. They also landed DE Darius English of Powder Springs; LB T.J. Holloman (6-2, 215) of Atlanta; DB Rico McWilliams (6-0, 175) of Hampton; and one of the nation’s premier RB prospects Mike Davis (5-10, 200) of Stone Mountain Stephenson who is a premier player with great vision, balance, surprising strength, and tremendous production who should see a lot of action as a true freshman. A couple of other ball player who should see action as freshman DB Chaz Elder (6-2, 180) of College Park, GA, a safety with great range and instincts, and TE Kelvin Rainey (6-3, 218) of Yulee, FL who is a mid-term grad with plenty of speed.
They are also excited about WR Kodi Whitfield (6-2, 200) of Los Angeles and son of former Stanford great Bob Whitfield; WR Conner Crane (6-4, 190) of Denton, TX; WR Michael Rector (6-1, 175) of Tacoma, WA; and of course, one of the nation’s premier prospects RB Barry Sanders (5-11, 190) of Oklahoma City, OK and the son of NFL Hall of Famer Barry Sanders, Sr. On the defensive side of the ball keep an eye on DL Jordan Watkins, a Semper Fi All-American who at 6-5, 270 from College Park, GA shows great feet; prep super DT Aziz Shittu (6-3, 290) of Atwater, CA; Luke Kaumatule (6-7, 250) of Honolulu, HI and one of that state’s top two prospects; also Butkus award winner LB Noor Davis (6-4, 225) of Leesburg, FL; Semper Fi All-American DB Zach Hoffpauir (5-11, 185) of Peoria, AZ; and blue chip CB Alex Carter (6-0, 195) of Ashburn, VA and son of former Notre Dame All-American Tom Carter.
Impact Player–WR/DB Shaq Roland ranks #19 in our top 100 and earned Player of the Year honors for the state of South Carolina in 2011 catching 79 passes for 1,546 yds and 19 TDs. He also ran for 305 yds and 10 scores. An impact player on both sides of the ball. Sleeper–DB Jordan Diggs (6-0, 191) of Cape Coral Island Coast High School was a two-time All-Area player at two different high schools. He totaled 62 tackles and 3 picks. He’s known for his great range and hard hitting style of play.
Impact Player–This class is loaded with impact players and I’ll go with OL Andrus Peat (6-7, 290) from Tempe Corona del Sol, AZ. He looks thin at 290 and should weigh 320 in college. Has remarkably quick feet and hands, and is a natural LT who has graded out at over 90% in his blocking assignments in his prep career.
Bottom Line–When he was at Florida head coach Steve Spurrier was known as a great coach and an average recruiter. Now at South Carolina, he certainly has picked up the pace and can hold his own against any Southeast Conference team on the field and in recruiting. 12. Clemson Tigers
13. LSU Tigers
After watching the Tiger’s Bowl game it was apparent they needed help along the defensive side of the ball. That help will come in the form of DB Travis Blanks (6-1, 190) of Tallahassee, FL; DB/WR Zac Brooks of Jonesboro, AR; LB T.J. Burrell of Goose Creek, SC; super quick DB Ronald Geohaghan (6-2, 180) of Fairfax, SC; DE Shaq Lawson (6-3, 240) of Central, SC; one of the top prospects in the state of North Carolina Carlos Watkins (6-4, 275) of Forest City; and DE Martin Aiken (6-3, 250) of Bamberg, SC.
It may not be a great year in the state of Louisiana for football talent and the Tigers may have lost the state’s top prospect to Alabama, but Tiger fans still have an awful lot to cheer about in the class of 2012. Let’s start with All-American OL Vadal Alexander (6-6, 315) of Buford, GA and his teammate OC Reid Ferguston (6-2, 235) of Buford; underrated DE Danielle Hunter (6-5, 235) of Katy, TX; DB Jalen Mills of Desoto, TX; and of course all-everything WR Avery Johnson (6-2, 180) of Pompano Beach, FL. A very impressive out of state haul!
They didn’t neglect the offensive side of the ball, particularly along the OL where they landed three top-notch in-state tackles in Javarius Leamon (6-6, 280) of Woodruff; Pat Destefano (6-5, 270) of Roebuck; and Oliver Jones (6-6, 310) of Ninety-Six. The Tigers are also excited about OL Jay Guillermo (6-3, 290) of Maryville, TN and WR Germone Hopper (6-1, 175) of Charlotte, NC, he’s a sure handed receiver who can run a 4.4 40. Don’t forget QB Chad Kelly, the Offensive Player of the Year in Western, NY and nephew of Hall of Famer Jim Kelly, he’s a 6-3, 210 pounder from Buffalo who accounted for close to 3,000 yds in total offense in 2011.
Locally, despite losing Landon Collins, the Tigers landed just about everyone else they wanted. That impressive group includes massive OL Derek Edinburgh (6-8, 320) of New Orleans, and 6-7, 290 OL Jerald Hawkins of Baldwin. LSU needed help in the secondary and certainly got it with such local standouts as Derrick Raymond of Metairie; Dwayne Thomas of New Orleans; and Jerqwinick Sandolph of Boutte. Two of the country’s finest LB prospects will also be heading to Baton Rouge Trey Granier (6-1, 225) of Thibodaux and Ronnie Feist (6-1, 215) of Edgard, both are blue chippers and both have what it takes to contribute as freshman. Another potential backer with big-time ability is Deion Jones (6-2, 195) of New Orleans can play either FS or LB at the next level. Also keep your eye on one of the nation’s premier TE prospects Dillon Gordon (6-5, 245) runs a legit 4.7 from River Ridge John Curtis. On signing day the Tigers may have lost Gunner Kiel but they gained Jeremy Liggins, a 6-3, 270 pound signal caller with great feet and arm strength from Oxford, MS, and one of the nation’s premier linebackers Kwon Alexander (6-1, 215) from Oxford, AL.
Impact Player–QB Chad Kelly (6-3, 210) of Buffalo, NY has the arm strength, poise, smarts, and running skills to be a three-year starter at QB. Sleeper–DB Cordrea Tankersley (6-0, 190) of Aiken, SC can run a 4.5 40 and shows good instincts, excellent recovery speed, and is known for his hitting ability. Bottom Line–The Tigers may have lost some momentum during their disastrous Bowl game against West Virginia but certainly landed the kind of players that can help their defense improve sooner than later. Impact Player–WR Avery Johnson (6-2, 185) from Pompano Beach Ely, FL certainly has the bloodlines and most of all the production to become an impact player at WR. He has averaged over 16 yds per catch in his prep career and is a two-time All-Area performer.

Sleeper–DB Deion Jones (6-2, 195) of New Orleans Jesuit, LA was the area’s Defensive Player of the Year. He’s a super fast, active, and productive defender with a nose for the ball. Bottom Line–Even though head coach Les Miles and the LSU Tigers fought for the national championship in January, this class does not really reflect that. They, once again, did a great job in a below average talent year in Louisiana and their out of state haul, though impressive, could have been better. 14. Texas A&M Aggies
Also keep an eye on Matt Cochran, one of the nation’s top three center prospects and a Semper Fi All-American from Atwater, CA, and who at 6-4, 340 dominated from his position throughout the season. They also headed south in the Los Angeles area to pull out four blue chip WR prospects in Darius Powe (6-2, 190) of Lakewood; Jordan Payton (6-2, 200) of Westlake Village; Chris Harper (6-0, 170) of Encino; and super talented and Semper Fi All-American Bryce Treggs, a 6-0, 170 pounder from Bellflower who latched onto 70 passes for 1,377 yds and 13 TDs in 2011. A couple of out of state catches of note are OL Christian Okafor (6-6, 300) of Houston, TX, and two-way back Cedric Dozier of Lakewood, WA. On signing day the Bears landed underrated WR Kenny Lawler (6-3, 180) of Upland, CA; DB Ray Ford (5-11, 180) of Gardena, CA; and little know FS Willie Fletcher (6-3, 180) of Orange, CA.
Most of this class was put together by former head coach Sherman but the new staff did a good job of maintaining. This group is led by alleverything RB Trey Williams of Spring, TX and includes such other instate supers as DB Edward Pope (6-3, 180) of Carthage; LB and Semper Fi All-American Jordan Richmond of Denton; DB DeVante Harris (5-11, 170) of Mesquite; super talented QB Matt Davis (6-2, 200) of Houston; OL Mike Matthews (6-3, 260) of Missouri City; DE Michael Richardson (6-2, 230) of Desoto; and all-star WR Thomas Johnson (6-0, 180) of Dallas. The group also includes a couple of junior college All-Americans in DB Otis Jacobs (6-1, 180) of Gulf Coast C.C. and WR Derel Walker (6-2, 175) of Trinity Valley C.C. Also keep an eye on DT Edmund Ray (6-5, 290) of St. Louis, MO, and DE Alonzo Williams (6-4, 250) of Long Beach, CA.
Impact Player–WR Bryce Treggs (6-0, 170) from Bellflower St. John Bosco, CA had a lights-out senior campaign catching 70 passes for 1,377 yds and 13 TDs on his way to earning 1st Team All-State honors.
Impact Player–RB Trey Williams (5-9, 178) of Spring DeKaney, TX ranks 32nd in our top 100. This season he rushed for 2,420 yds and 30 TDs on his way to earning class 5A 1st Team All-State honors for the second year in a row.
Sleeper–Tackle Freddie Tagaloa (6-8, 30) of Richmond Salesian, CA ranks 94th in our top 100 but most people have not caught up to just how immensely talented this young man is. Super strong at the point of attack, he already has an NFL body.
Sleeper–QB Matt Davis (6-2, 200) of Houston Klein Forest, TX was injured as a junior but once again came on strong as a senior showing outstanding running skills and proving to be a very accurate passer.
Bottom Line–Cal, once again, has been remarkably consistent in their recruiting efforts. Realizing it was a superior year in Northern California, they dominated the area from start to finish and also pulled out four of the country’s finest wide receivers from Southern California. They are consistently one of the more organized and effective recruiting staffs in the country.
Bottom Line–If you are diligent, hard working, and aggressive there is so much talent in the state of Texas that you can’t help but recruit a good class. The key is to recruit a great class and on a consistent basis, and it looks like the new Aggie staff has gotten off to a great start. QB DB WR OL DB WR DE DB OL DE ATH DT DE LB DE OL WR DE RB

16. Virginia Tech Hokies
15. California Bears
One of the country’s more consistent recruiting staffs and it was business as usual for the Hokies this recruiting season. They did a good job in-state landing such stars as LB Trey Edmunds (6-2, 210) of Ringgold; All-State RB J.C. Coleman (5-7, 172) of Chesapeake; LB Deon Clarke, another All-Stater from Chesterfield; two-way standout Jerome Wright of Highland Springs; underrated DT Nigel Williams (6-2, 265) of Richmond; and DT Alston Smith (6-3, 280 ) of Virginia Beach.
Despite losing a couple of very talented ball players at the end, Cal’s overall class has to rank among the very best in the country. It was a tremendous year for talent in Northern California and they more than took advantage of it landing WR Ken Walker (6-0, 170) of Richmond with 4.4 speed; one of the nation’s more impressive looking tackles Freddie Tagaloa, a 6-8, 300 pounder from Richmond and he was a dominator in the Semper Fi game; underrated LB Hardy Nickerson (6-0, 220) of Oakland and the son of former all-pro Hardy Nickerson, Sr.; Steven Moore, a 6-6, 270 pound tackle from Elk Grove; Semper Fi All-American LB Michael Barton of Concord; and blue chip signal caller Zach Kline (6-2, 210) of Danville.
Out of state keep an eye on blue chip RB Drew Harris (6-1, 210) of Downingtown, PA who is a big-time back with vision, strength, balance, and production; super quick DE Jarontay Jones (6-3, 240) of Stone Mountain, GA; one of the most underrated defensive players in

Also keep an eye on the #1 prospect in the state of New York Jarron Jones (6-6, 300) of Rochester, NY who has All-American skills at OT and DT. The Irish also needed much help at the RB position landing USC transfer Amir Carlisle (5-10, 190) of Sunnyvale, CA; also William Mahone (5-11, 205) from Austintown, OH; and KeiVarae Russell (6-0, 170) of Everett, WA who could play either RB or WB at Notre Dame. Also keep an eye on a couple of pretty good DL prospects Romeo Okwara (6-5, 240) of Charlotte, NC, and Semper Fi All-American Sheldon Day (6-2, 275) of Indianapolis, IN.
the country and Semper Fi standout Donaldven Manning (5-9, 160) of Miami; DB Donovan Riley of Baltimore, MD; and DE Woody Baron (6-3, 255) of Brentwood, TN. Impact Player–DB Joel Caleb (6-3, 205) from Midlothian Clover Hill, VA. He’s one of the state’s top two prospects and missed part of the season due to injuries but when he played, he played well. Passed for 826 yds and 7 TDs and rushed for 747 yds and 12 TDs at QB. Sleeper–CB Donaldven Manning (5-9, 160) of Miami Central, FL. It may be pushing it to say he’s 5-9 and it also may be pushing it to say he ones 160, but it’s not pushing it to say that he is one of the toughest, instinctive, and quickest CB prospects in the country. I have no doubt that he’ll become an impact player for the Hokies and could possibly even wind up playing on Sundays in four years.
Impact Player–QB Gunner Kiel (6-4, 220) of Columbus East, IN is the #1 QB prospect in the country. He reminds me an awful lot of Blaine Gabbert and was voted the state of Indiana’s Player of the Year after passing for 2,517 yds and 28 TDs this season.
Bottom Line–Head Coach Frank Beamer is one of the most underrated recruiters in the country. He is consistent, driven, and most of all successful. The Hokies have built up quite a program and it starts and ends with their ability to recruit athletic ball players they can develop. Sleeper–Keep an eye on DB D.J. Prosise (6-2, 200) of Woodberry Forest, VA. He has proven to be adept at not only FS and CB but also he’s an outstanding kickoff returner. Bottom Line–This class will blend in nicely with last year’s super class. Although the Irish didn’t get the left tackle, go-to wide receiver, and safety they were looking for, there is enough talent in these two classes to get the Irish to where they want to be, and that of course is a consistent BCS contender.

18. UCLA Bruins The Bruins had a lot of scholarships to give this season and more than took advantage of it particularly on the defensive side of the ball. That group is led by all-everything and the #6 rated player in the country DL Ellis McCarthy (6-4, 300) from Monrovia, CA. This class also includes LB Aaron Porter (6-2, 230) from La Habra, CA and one of the nation’s finest LB prospects; DE Jeremy Castro (6-1, 240) of Murrieta, CA; and blue chip DB Ishmael Adams (5-10, 190) from Westlake Village. They headed all the way across country to land the very talented DB Justin Combs (5-8, 170) of New Rochelle, NY, and Eli Ankou (6-3, 255) formally of Canada but this year he played his ball at Red Lion Christian High in Bear, DE.
17. Notre Dame Fighting Irish Although they did not finish well, the Irish still put together a pretty attractive group starting with the #2 player in the country QB Gunner Kiel of Columbus, IN. This group includes much needed help in the secondary led by Tee Shepard (6-1, 175) of Fresno, CA; John Turner (6-2, 200) of Indianapolis, IN; Elijah Shumate of Ramsey, NJ; super athletic C.J. Prosise (6-2, 200) of Woodberry Forest, VA; and Nicky Baratti (6-2, 215) of Spring, TX. Although the Irish lost one of the nation’s premier WR prospects on signing day, they did haul in Chris Brown, a 6-2, 190 pounder from Hanahan, SC, and Justin Ferguson (6-2, 205) of Pembroke Pines, FL. They also went out seeking much needed help along the offensive line and came up with future star Ronnie Stanley (6-7, 270) of Las Vegas, NV; the versatile Mark Harrell (6-5, 270) of Charlotte, NC; and Scott Daly of

and signed with UCLA. This 6-0, 195 pounder standout from Old Tappan, NJ is one of the nation’s finest athletes. They also landed WR Ahmaad Harris (5-8, 170) from Suwanee, GA; OL Simon Goines (6-7, 300) from Keller, TX; and DB Randall Goforth (5-10, 160) from Long Beach, CA. Not to mention WR Ken Walker (6-0, 170) of Richmond, CA, and one of the top prospects in the state of Arizona WR Javon Williams (6-5, 190) from Chandler, AZ.
They also ventured into Texas pulling out super athlete Bralon Addison (5-10, 185) of Missouri City and a former Texas A&M commitment, and WR Chance Allen (6-3, 190) of Missouri City. Locally they landed the state’s #1 prospect DE Alex Balducci (6-4, 260) of Portland; DB Oshay Dunmore (6-2, 195) of Newport; and LB Brett Bafaro (6-2, 220) of Hillsboro. The Ducks are also super excited about QB Jake Rodrigues (6-3, 210) of Rocklin, CA.
Impact Player–DL Ellis McCarthy (6-4, 300) of Monrovia, CA is an impact player who should make a difference as a true freshman. He has totaled close to 30 QB sacks over the past two years playing both DE and DT. A superior talent.
Impact Player–OT/DE Arik Armstead (6-7, 280) of Pleasant Grove, CA ranks as the 16th best player in the country. He has All-American skills on either side of the ball. Sleeper–TE/DE Pharaoh Brown (6-6, 220) of Lyndhurst Brush, OH shows All-American skills as a receiving TE and a pass rushing DE.
Sleeper–DE Eli Ankou (6-3, 255) from Bear Red Lion Christian, DE. I first met Eli when he was playing ball up in Canada. He came to play his senior year in Delaware and it sure did work out proving to be unstoppable as a pass rusher, he’s excellent in pursuit, and has the frame to weigh 280 in college.
Bottom Line–The Ducks have become a national recruiting force and have particularly zeroed in on the states of California and Texas. However, their success in the Buckeye state could mean further recruiting explorations throughout the Midwest and I look for the Ducks to also set their sights on the state of Florida.
Bottom Line–New Head Coach Jim Mora, Jr. did one heck of a job keeping this class together and even adding such superstars as Ellis McCarthy and Aaron Porter at the very end. They had gotten off to a great start and there’s telling how good their 2013 class will be. If I was a betting man I would certainly bet on a Bruin top ten finish next February. 20. Georgia Bulldogs After finishing #6 in 2011 with a class full of potential All-Americans, Georgia followed that class up with a very solid one. This class includes some outstanding defensive players such as DE Jordan Jenkins (6-3, 245) of Hamilton, GA; super DB Josh Harvey-Clemons (6-5, 200) of Valdosta; DT Jonathan Taylor (6-4, 310) of Millen, GA; RB Quayvon Hicks (6-2, 245) of Blackshear, GA; DE James Deloach (6-3, 260) of Millen, GA; and terrifically talented pass rusher Leonard Floyd (6-4, 220) of Eastman.
19. Oregon Ducks
They also has great success in North Carolina pulling out two of the nation’s premier running backs Keith Marshall (5-11, 190) of Raleight, and Todd Gurley (6-1, 210) of Tarboro. Keep an eye on QB Faton Bauta (6-3, 225) of West Palm Beach, FL, as well as Greg Pyke one of the nation’s more underrated OL’s from Baltimore, MD. The Bulldogs also inked one of the nation’s top two place kickers in Marshall Morgan (6-3, 190) a Semper Fi All-American from Miami, FL. And, of course, the nation’s premier OT John Theus (6-6, 300) of Jacksonville, FL.
The Ducks have become a national recruiting team and one of the more successful ones. This season they attracted players from all over the country including blue chip WR Dwayne Stanford (6-4, 185) of Cincinnati, OH; JC All-American and former PFR All-American Kyle Long (6-7, 285) of Saddleback C.C.; hard hitting DB Reggie Daniels (6-0, 180) of Chandler, AZ; DE Cody Carriger (6-6, 230) of Butte, MT; the #1 prospect in the state of Hawaii DE DeForest Buckner (6-7, 230) of Honolulu; sure handed TE and DE Pharaoh Brown (6-6, 220) of Lyndhurst, OH; one of the top five TE prospects in the country Evan Baylis (6-5, 225) of Aurora, CO; and of course one of the nation’s premier players DE Arik Armstead (6-8, 280) of Elk Grove, CA.
Impact Player–OL John Theus (6-6, 300) of Jacksonville Boles, FL ranks as the 7th player in our top 100. In a year of great offensive linemen John really stood out and he reminds me of Joe Thomas at a similar age. He can dominate as both a pass and run blocker.

Davis (6-1, 180) from Tallahassee, FL and a defender who has been timed in a 4.38 40 and OL Patrick Miller (6-7, 260) of West Palm Beach, FL who has the growth potential to weigh over 300 pounds in college. On signing day the Tigers were excited at add WR Ricardo Louis (6-2, 190) from Miami Beach who is a sprinter with great hands; all-everything OL Avery Young (6-6, 280) from Palm Beach Gardens, FL, an LT with remarkably quick feet; and after signing day climbing on board was OT Jordan Diamond (6-6, 300) from Chicago Simeon, IL.
21. Tennessee VOLS It’s never a great year for talent in the state of Tennessee and the VOLS coaching staff realize that so this year they took their recruiting show on the road and came back with several blue chip prospects. The list includes Midwest standouts DT Danny O’Brien (6-3, 300) of Flint, MI; blue chip DE LaTroy Lewis (6-4, 235) of Akron; and hard charging and underrated RB Alden Hill of Alliance, OH. Like everyone else, Tennessee was a major presence in the state of Florida and they pulled out DB Dan Gray (6-0, 170) of Lauderdale Lakes; super quick and active WR Alton Howard (5-9, 180) of Orlando; one of the best defensive players in the state DE Trent Taylor (6-2, 250) of Lakeland; and all-area QB Nathan Peterman (6-2, 205) of Jacksonville. Also keep an eye on one of the country’s finest TE prospects Justin Meredith (6-5, 215) of Anderson, SC; one of the nation’s finest FS prospects LaDarrell McNeil of Dallas, TX was a major catch with Tennessee out recruiting several big-time schools for this All-Metro DB; two-way standout Davante Bourque (63, 210) of Crowley, LA; DB Deion Bonner of Columbus, GA; and WR Jason Croom of Norcross, GA. In state they are excited about WR Drae Bowles (6-1, 200) of Jackson, one of the top three prospects in western Tennessee, and DB Cody Blanc of Knoxville.
Impact Player–Zeke Pike (6-6, 230) of Edgewood Dixie Heights, KY is one of the nation’s finest all around QB prospects who threw for 1,978 yds and 13 TDs while rushing for 1,075 yds and 17 TDs in 2011 despite missing two games due to a suspension.
Impact Player–LaDarrell McNeil (6-1, 187) of Dallas Wilmer-Hutchins, TX is a two-time All-Metro area FS at two different schools. He recorded over 200 tackles the past two years and is known for his hard-hitting style of play.
Sleeper–WR JaQuay Williams (6-4, 205) of Tyrone Sandy Creek, GA has proven to be a great all around athlete who dominated in the Semper Fi All-American game in Phoenix this past January showing great hands and tremendous speed.
Sleeper–WR Alton Howard (5-9, 180) of Orlando Edgewater, FL is one of the fastest players in the state and could wind up playing either WR or CB, and he’s an electrifying kick returner.

Bottom Line–A half a year ago Auburn looked like they were on their way to having a great recruiting class. However, in a world of ‘what have you done for me lately?’ after Alabama won a national title, they took over the publicity train and never looked back. Auburn did an outstanding job out of state. Locally they could have done better, but overall it’s an above average class with plenty of athletes. OT OL DB OT DB TE DB OL WR LB OL LB DT TE QB DE FB RB QB WR OT

24. Washington Huskies It’s ironic that Washington finishes so high after missing out on the state’s top three prospects. They rebounded well landing the rest of the area’s blue chip prospects like OL Jake Eldrenkamp (6-5, 290) of Bellevue; OL Cory English (6-3, 280) of Auburn; Semper Fi AllAmerican Nathan Dean (6-5, 280) of Kirkland; and of course Semper Fi All-American QB Jeff Lindquist (6-3, 225) of Mercer Island.
23. Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Out of state Jeff will get plenty of competition from Colorado’s top prospect QB Cyler Miles (6-4, 220) of Denver who is a rocket-armed signal caller who can run a 4.4 40, and the nation’s #5 prospect RB/ DB Shaq Thompson (6-2, 215) of Sacramento, CA. He was followed to Seattle by such other Golden State standouts as DB Darien Washington (5-11, 175) of Orange; WR Dwayne Washington (6-1, 185) of Cerritos; RB Ryan McDaniel (6-0, 225) of Torrance; DB Brandon Beaver (6-1, 175) of Compton; and a couple of junior college All-Americans PK Travis Coons of Mount San Antonio C.C., and DT Josh Banks of San Joaquin Delta C.C. They even headed west to Hawaii to land DE Kalei Auelua (6-3, 240) of Honolulu, and RB Psalm Wooching (6-3, 210) of Kailua Kona. Another big catch was DB Kendyl Taylor (5-11, 190) of Chandler, AZ, and keep an eye on DE Pio Vatuvei (6-2, 260) of Patterson, CA. A late catch was super athlete Jaydon Mickens (5-8, 170) of Los Angeles.
When you talk about disruption you are talking about Rutgers January 2012. They not only lost their head coach a couple of days before signing day but it looked like there would be a stampede of blue chip talent leaving the state. That didn’t happen thanks to new head coach Kyle Flood, and when it was all said and done, Rutgers had put together one of their best class in years. They loaded up on in-state talent, which is a group led by all-everything DE Darius Hamilton (6-4, 250) of Ramsey. This group also included Semper Fi All-American LB Quanzell Lambert (6-2, 230) of Sicklerville; sure handed WR Ruhann Peele (6-1, 180) of Linden; underrated DE Julian Pinnix-Odrick (6-5, 250) of Montclair; RB Davon Jacobs (6-0, 190) of Wayne; the state’s top WR prospect Leonte Carroo (6-1, 200) of Ramsey; Semper Fi All-American OG Ryan Brodie (6-5, 270) of Long Branch; and DB Delon Stephenson (5-11, 175) of Parlin.
Impact Player–No doubt RB/SS Shaq Thompson (6-2, 215) of Sacramento Grant, CA has what it takes to become an impact player this fall. He played both QB and DB in 2011 rushing for 1,134 yds and 15 TDs, passing for 893 yds and 8 scores, and totaled 57 tackles in just eight games. A prep superstar.
They also struck gold out of state landing RB Desmon Peoples (57, 160) of Warminster, PA; blue chip tackle Chris Muller (6-6, 290) of Boyertown, PA; Semper Fi and USA Today All-American J.J. Denman (6-7, 310) of Fairless Hills, PA who is one of the best run blockers in the country; and sure handed WR Ian Thomas (6-1, 190) of Reisterstown, MD.
Sleeper–QB Jeff Lindquist (6-3, 225) of Mercer Island, WA. He earned 1st Team All-State honors in 2011 and shows a rifle arm, good instincts, and is a tremendous leader. He has not been mentioned as much as QB Cyler Miles but certainly has what it takes to lead the Huskies to the PAC-12 championship.
Impact Player–The 29th ranked player in our top 100 is Darius Hamilton (6-4, 255) of Ramsey Don Bosco was named the state’s Defensive Player of the Year after totaling 74 tackles and 17 QB sacks. Sleeper–OL Ryan Brodie (6-5, 270) of Long Branch, NJ dominated the action at the Semper Fi game. Versatile enough to play tackle, guard, and defensive tackle, he is tough, aggressive, and instinctive.
Bottom Line–Head coach Steve Sarkasian, himself an outstanding recruiter, was able to land one of the nation’s premier recruiters and D-Line coaches Tosh Lopoi from CAL. That did not only serve him well this recruiting season but wait until next year. The Huskies should dominate the Pacific Northwest and, once again, be a force in the Golden State.
Bottom Line–If this is what new head coach Kyle Flood can do in just one week, imagine what he can do in one year. If he is capable of consistently putting a fence around the state and landing just about every top star in the Garden State then look out.

This class is loaded with standouts starting at the QB position with both Greyson Lambert (6-5, 200) of Jesup, GA and Matt Johns (6-5, 200) Warrington, PA. At RB keep an eye on Kye Morgan, a 5-10, 180 pounder of Somerset, NJ who more than held his own playing in the Semper Fi game in Phoenix. They are also excited about such other offensive stars as WR Mario Nixon (6-4, 220) of Norfolk, VA; WR Adrian Gamble (6-1, 180) of Fork Union, VA; sure handed TE Kyle Deckins (6-4, 210) of Virginia Beach; All-State WR Anthony Cooper of Virginia Beach; and one of the top prospects from the state of New York OL Sean Karl (6-6, 295) of Manorville.

26. Oklahoma State Cowboys With a fantastic season on the field behind them, you would expect nothing less than a top rated class and that’s exactly what the Cowboys are bringing to Stillwater. It was not a great year for talent in-state so the Cowboys headed south to Texas and pulled out blue chippers from just about every part of Texas. From the Houston area comes WR Blake Webb (6-0, 185) from The Woodlands who is a 4.4 sprinter; OL Paul Lewis (6-3, 270) from Galena Park; and WR Chance Allen (6-3, 190) of Missouri City. From Houston they headed southeast to Port Arthur to haul in WR Jhajuan Seales, a 6-1, 185 pounder with 4.4 speed. They also went into the northeast section of the state to lure DE Eric Davis (6-3, 250) of Tyler. Of course in the Dallas area they pulled out All-State LB Jeremiah Tshimanga (6-3, 230) of North Richland Hills; All-State OL Michael Wilson (6-6, 275) of Aledo; DB Ashton Lampkin (6-1, 190) of Fort Worth; and LB Dom Ramacher (6-3, 230) of Denton.
Their offensive haul was good and their defensive haul was outstanding. That group is led by Semper Fi All-American Michael Moore, a 6-4, 255 pounder DE from Hyattsville, MD. It also includes LB Kwontie Moore (6-2, 235) of Norfolk Christian and his teammate DE Courtnye Wynn; also LB Canaan Severin (6-3, 220) of Worcester, MA; one of the top 100 DE’s Eli Harold of Virginia Beach; LB Mark Hall, an All-Stater from Virginia Beach; one of the fastest rising defensive players from the state of Florida LB Demeitre Brim (6-3, 220) of Lakeland, FL.
They also ventured into the Longhorn territory pulling out DE Victor Irokansi (6-4, 230) of Pflugerville. Complimenting that Texas haul is DE Trace Clark, a 6-5, 240 pound DE from Wichita, KS; sure handed and strong WR C.J. Curry (6-2, 210) of Flowery Branch, GA; WR Brandon Sheperd one of the top prospects in the St. Louis area from Chesterfield; and potential superstar QB Wes Lunt (6-5, 200) from Rochester, IL. Also heading back to Stillwater is 2011 DT Calvin Barnett of Navarro JC. Locally keep an eye on DB Kevin Peterson (5-11, 170) of Wagoner and TE Zac Veatch (6-4, 240) of Broken Arrow. On signing day they landed junior college All-American OT Chris Grisbhy (6-5, 315) from Blinn C.C., and hard hitting LB Seth Jacobs (6-2, 215) of Arroyo Grande, CA.
Impact Player–DE Eli Harold (6-4, 220) of Virginia Beach Ocean Lakes ranks as the #42 player in the country. A physical receiver on offense, he’s been blessed with long arms, strong hands and quick feet. On defense he can bend off the edge like no one’s business and shows an outstanding closing burst. He totaled 16 QB sacks in 2011. Sleeper–DE Courtnye Wynn (6-5, 245) of Norfolk Christian came into his own during the 2011 season totaling 82 tackles, 6 QB sacks, and 16 tackles for losses. He has the frame to weigh 280 in college and with his burst and tenacity, look out!
Impact Player–QB West Lunt from Rochester, IL ranks 88th in our top 100 and has proven to be a prolific passer in the high school ranks. This season, despite missing three games due to injuries, he threw for 3,651 yds and 31 TDs and led his team to a state championship. That championship game he completed 31 of 39 passes for 506 yds and 3 TDs.
Bottom Line–Head Coach Mike London has proven he can recruit with the big boys. It’s fun to watch Virginia’s recruiting battles with Virginia Tech, both schools are relentless, smart, and determined. If the Cavaliers can keep it up, the conference championship will soon be realized.

March 2012
Sleeper–WR Brandon Sheperd (6-3, 197) from Chesterfield Parkway Central, MO runs a 4.4 40. He can stretch a defense with his speed, can break tackles easily, and knows how to get open.
Bottom Line–Vandy appears to be heading into a new era, one in which blue chip recruits are heading to Nashville in a steady stream instead of their usual trickle. If they can keep it up, Vandy will continue to be competitive in the country’s best conference.
Bottom Line–Head coach Mike Gundy has really gotten things rolling up in Stillwater. They no longer are just a force in the states of Texas and Oklahoma, they have now branched out into the Midwest, the west, and have even been known to recruit the state of Florida. 28. Arkansas Razorbacks In just a couple of short years the Razorbacks have become efficient in national recruiting. This year some out of the area stars heading to Fayetteville are DB Ray Buchanan of Suwanee, GA; underrated and sure handed junior college All-American Courtney Gardner (6-3, 215) of Sierra CC; JC All-American Austin Flynn, a 6-4, 260 pound DE with explosive moves from Los Angeles; blue chip DE Brandon Lewis (6-5, 225) of Memphis, TN; DE JaMichael Winston (6-5, 230) of Mobile, AL; LB Jakarri Thomas (6-1, 205) of Tallahassee, FL; and WR D’Arthur Cowan of Olive Branch, MS.
27. Vanderbilt Commodores As the Commodores put the finishing touches on what appears to be their best recruiting class in 20 years, kudos go out not only to head coach James Franklin but to the entire staff. Vandy, like other academic schools Stanford, Notre Dame, and Northwestern, have become a national recruiting force but have kept their base solidly in the south. In state prospects heading to Nashville are blue chip RB Brian Kimbrow of Memphis; DE Caleb Azubike (6-5, 240) of Nashville; WR Cory Batey (6-0, 185) of Nashville; QB Patton Robinette, a 6-5, 200 pound gunslinger from Maryville; 6-6, 265 pound OL Andrew Jelks of Paris; and 1st Team All-State OL Barrett Gouger (6-5, 290) of Chattanooga.
Locally the Razorbacks lost only one top in-state prospect and landed DE Jeremy Sprinkle (6-5, 210) of White Hall; DB Defonta Lowe, a 6-3, 190 pounder with outstanding instincts from Bearden; and Semper Fi All-American Jeremy Ward, a 6-4, 290 pounder from Pottsville. Keep an eye on LB A.J. Turner (6-3, 215) from Lepanto. On signing day they inked Otha Peters, a 6-1, 220 pound linebacker from Covington, LA with the ability to impact a defense as a true freshman. Impact Player–RB Jonathan Williams (5-11, 210) of Allen, TX committed earlier to Missouri and has since switched his commitment to Arkansas. He ranks 90th in our top 100, this Semper Fi All-American rushed for 1,169 yds and 14 TDs as a senior on his way to earning AllLeague MVP honors.
Vandy was also successful out of state bringing in such notable players as WR Jaborian McKenzie of Natchez, MS; two-way standout Chris Moody of McDonough, GA; LB Jacob Sealand of Tucker, GA; quick-footed and productive DB Brandon Banks of Brandywine, MD; and All-State DE Torey Agee (6-3, 250) of Opelika, AL.
Sleeper–OL Jeremy Ward (6-4, 290) of Pottsville, AR can play tackle, guard, or center and long snap. As versatile as they come, he shows the ability to become a three-year starter at AR.
Impact Player–RB Brian Kimbrow ranks #51 in our top 100 and was MVP of the Memphis area this season rushing for 1,969 yds and 21 TDs averaging 10½ yds per carry including 441 yds and 3 TDs against Hamilton. He’s been timed in a 10.5 100 meters.
Bottom Line–Without a doubt Arkansas is one of the best evaluating staffs in the country. RC Tim Horton does a great job of organizing their recruiting and head coach Bobby Petrino is one of the more underrated head coaches when it comes to recruiting. They have expanded Arkansas’ base and have shown the ability to attract prospects from coast to coast.
Sleeper–WR Cory Batey (6-0, 185) of Nashville Ensworth, TN. I watched Cory in a playoff game this past November and came away impressed with him at both the WR and DB positions. An instinctive, quick-footed, and exceptionally productive two-way player.

30. Purdue Boilermakers
29. Missouri Tigers
One of the country’s most underrated recruiters is head coach Danny Hope. This season they did a bang up job out of state and have brought one of the most talented classes in the past twenty years to West Lafayette. Locally they were able to land one of the state’s best players QB Aloyis Gray, a strong armed and very athletic QB from Indianapolis. Also keep an eye on local product WR Danny Anthrop (6-0, 170) of Lafayette, and DB Jordan Shine (6-0, 190) of Indianapolis. It’s their out of state signees that have gotten Boilermaker fans excited. That list includes one of the top defensive players in the Atlantic Coast region DE Ryan Watson (6-3, 270) of Olney, MD. Keep an eye on Ryan Morris (6-6, 250) of Barnegat, NJ, he’s a sure handed receiver who has the frame to possibly grow into a tackle; one of the best athletes in South Florida QB Bilal Marshall (6-3, 175) from Hialeah, FL is a two-time All-State signal caller; QB Austin Appleby (6-5, 230) of North Canton, OH and one of the most underrated and talented QB prospects in the country; super swift WR Cameron Posey of Delray Beach, FL; and JC All-American tackle Devin Smith (6-7, 315) of Arizona Western C.C. A couple of other Florida products to get excited about are LB Andy Garcia (5-11, 210) of Hialeah, FL who can run a 4.5 40, and super swift DB Anthony Brown of Tampa. A couple of days after signing day Purdue landed blue chip and very athletic QB Robert Gregory (6-3, 195) from Chicago Simeon, IL, a remarkably gifted signal caller with a high ceiling.
This is as high as the Tigers have ranked in a long time and much of it is due to landing the nation’s #1 prospect, Mr. All-everything WR Dorial Green-Beckham of Springfield. They also did a pretty good job in state landing one of the top two prospects in the Kansas City area OL Evan Boehm (6-3, 290) of Lee’s Summit who ranks as one of the nation’s top guard prospects; underrated blue chip LB Donavin Newsom (6-2, 220) of St. Louis; Michael Scherer is another LB at 6-4, 230 from St. Louis; and swift and powerful RB Morgan Steward (5-11, 190) of Kansas City. Out of state keep an eye on Maty Mauk, a four-star signal caller from Kenton, OH and a record breaker who may be closer to 6-0 than 6-2. Believe me, this young man can play the game and is more than happy to have Mr. Beckham as a receiver. The Tigers, despite the fact that they are moving to the Southeast Conference, once again did a pretty good job in Texas securing the signature of DB Torey Boozer (6-3, 210) of Everman; OL Jordan Williams (6-4, 260) of Denton; DE Rickey Hatley (6-4, 245) of Atlanta, TX; and a couple of 4.4 sprinters RB Russell Hansbrough (5-8, 170) of Arlington and DB John Gibson (5-10, 175) of Missouri City. A couple of other out of state prospects to keep an eye on are Ka’Ra Stewart, a 6-0, 190 pound DB from O’Fallon, IL, and former PFR All-American LB Markus Golden (6-3, 230) of Hutchinson C.C.
Impact Player–QB Bilal Marshall (6-3, 175) of Hialeah Dade Christian, FL has what it takes to run the spread offense. He shows good arm strength and outstanding running skills, and shows the leadership ability to take charge early.
Impact Player–This is an easy one WR Dorial Green-Beckham (6-6, 220) from Springfield Hillcrest, MO is the nation’s top prospect. He turned down everyone to become a Tiger after catching 119 passes for 2,233 yds and 25 TDs and set the national record for most career yards with 6,356. The closest WR I’ve seen to Randy Moss. If he isn’t an impact player this fall than something’s wrong.
Sleeper–QB Austin Appleby (6-5, 230) of North Canton Hoover, OH. Austin was a ball player I strongly considered for the Semper Fi game because of his arm strength and potential. More of a pocket passer, he can rifle the ball in, is not afraid of the pass rush, and is not super quick but can buy time with his feet until his receivers get open.
Sleeper–QB Maty Mauk (6-2, 200) of Kenton, OH is a legit four-star prospect but has not received the kind of respect that he deserves. He can make all the throws, even when falling down, has the arm strength, smarts, and confidence to make it big.
Bottom Line–Head coach Danny Hope certainly put his ties in South Florida (he’s a Miami Killan grad) to good use this season. Purdue was lacking speed and they certainly have it in abundance in this class. It’s a class loaded with athletes and most of all super productive ball players.
Bottom Line–This is a typical Missouri class loaded with good but not big-name players, except for the fact that it also includes the nation’s #1 prospect and Missouri’s biggest catch ever. Some locals are skeptical about moving to the Southeast Conference. Dorial Green-Beckham will help smooth the way.

32. Texas Tech Red Raiders This is a very large and talented class heading to Lubbock and it sure looks like the Red Raider staff has settled into recruiting the Lone Star state as their priority. They are still in the deep south, but not as much as they were a year ago, and their local efforts paid off. Such big-time Texas standouts heading to West Texas will be QB Clayton Nicholas (6-3, 205) of Abilene; blue chip WR Dominique Wheeler (6-1, 175) of Crockette; LB Kris Williams (6-3, 210) of Dallas; short but explosive DT Anthony Smith (6-0, 295) of Houston; OL Trey Keenan (6-5, 270) of Argyle; RB Ryan Flannigan (6-1, 200) of Missouri City; sure handed and swift WR Reginald Davis (6-1, 185) of Tenaha; and DB Micah Awe (6-0, 190) of Mansfield.
31. Nebraska Cornhuskers Like the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Nebraska Cornhuskers have to recruit well nationally to put together a good class. There is very little local talent available and this season TE Sam Cotton (6-4, 240) of Lincoln is the only local player of note signing with the Corn Huskers. Out of state they had more success bringing in blue chip DE Greg McMullen (6-4, 250) of Akron, OH; All-American OL Paul Thurston (6-5, 275) of Arvada, CO; record setting WR Jordan Westerkamp (6-1, 195) of Lombard, IL; underrated QB Tommy Armstrong (6-2, 210) of Cibolo, TX; Semper Fi All-American DE Avery Moss (6-4, 245) of Tempe, AZ has what it takes to become a legit pass rusher in college; and keep an eye on LB Jared Afalava (6-2, 215) from South Jordan, UT who more than held his own in the Semper Fi game in early January. In the end the Cornhuskers were also able to land junior college All-American DB Mohammed Seisay (6-2, 200) from Eastern Arizona JC, and one of the top prospects in downstate Illinois DT Vincent Valentine (6-3, 300) of Edwardsville.
They also went the junior college route landing several impressive two year standouts like DB Olaoluwa Falemi (5-11, 175) of Los Angeles Harbor C.C.; DB Bruce Jones (5-9, 170) of Riverside C.C.; LB Will Smith (6-3, 220) of Riverside C.C.; DB Austin Stewart (6-2, 200) of Pierce C.C.; and WR Javon Bell (6-0, 175) of Gulf Coast C.C. Also keep an eye on DE Chase Robinson (6-4, 230) of Memphis, TN and WR Casey Gladney (6-1, 175) of Columbia, SC. Impact Player–DE Michael Starts (6-4, 280) of Waco LaVega, TX. I saw Michael last January when I was at the USA vs. The World game. He’s an impressive looking DL who could wind up playing DT in college. He’s strong, quick footed, and aggressive. Sleeper–QB Clayton Nicholas (6-3, 205) of Abilene Cooper, TX seems to have gotten lost in the shuffle of potential blue chip QB’s in the state of Texas last season. On film he shows a live arm, quick feet, and leadership skills.
Impact Player–Early on it could be DB Mohammed Seisay (6-2, 200) of Eastern Arizona JC or JC All-American LB Zaire Anderson (6-1, 220) of Riverside C.C. Right now let’s say it’s WR Jordan Westerkamp (6-1, 195) of Lombard Montini, IL who ranks 55th in our top 100. All he did this season was catch 90 passes for 1,675 yds and 29 scores including 12 catches for 353 yds and 5 TDs in the state championship game. Looks like Nebraska has got their go-to receiver.
Bottom Line–There appears to be enough talent in the state of Texas to go around. The Red Raiders have found that out and along with several blue chip junior college players they have put together quite a class. This class is loaded at wide receiver, linebacker, and defensive back.
Sleeper–LB Jared Afalava from South Jordan Bingham, UT dominated the Salt Lake City area of the past two years showing brilliant speed to the ball, instincts, and toughness. He recorded 86 tackles this fall on his way to earning 1st Team All-State honors.
DL DB WR WR DB LB OL ATH WR DB
Bottom Line–After leaving the BIG-12 it looks like Nebraska left the state of Texas behind. They made no impact at all in the Lone Star state having shifted their attention to the Midwest and although they came up with a few plums in Ohio and Illinois, it was not enough to propel them into the top twenty.

Locally they ran into the Michigan buzz saw but still managed to bring in some blue chip out of state talent. In state they are excited about LB Riley Bullough, a 6-1, 200 pounder from Traverse City; LB Jamal Lyles (6-3, 215) of Southfield; and potential super WR Aaron Burbridge (6-1, 175) of Farmington Hills, MI. Out of state keep an eye on RB Nick Tompkins (5-10, 185) from Snellville, GA; strong armed QB Tyler O’Connor (6-3, 202) of Lima, OH; super swift WR Macgarrett Kings (5-11, 178) of Fort Lauderdale, FL; and sure handed TE Josiah Price of Greentown, IN. On signing day the Spartans were excited to land one of the top FS prospects in the country Demetrious Cox (6-1, 195) from Jeannette, PA, and record breaking WR Monty Madaris (6-2, 195) from Cincinnati Moeller, OH.
It’s never a great year in state so the Hawkeyes took their recruiting show on the road and came away with several blue chip athletes, particularly from the Chicago area. That group includes four-star DT Jaleel Johnson (6-3, 270) of Lombard; four-star DB Maurice Fleming, a 6-1, 180 pound QB/DB; four-star plus Faith Ekakitie (6-3, 270) from Lake Forest; and four-star OL Ryan Ward (6-6, 270) of New Lenox. They are also excited about OL Mitch Keppy (6-5, 287) from Port Byron, IL. Their best prospect could be RB Greg Garmon (6-2, 195) from Erie, PA; but they are also excited about super swift WR Cam Wilson (6-2, 190) of Dublin, OH; hard hitting LB Laron Taylor (6-0, 215) for Detroit; and his teammate DB Ruben Lile (6-3, 200).
Impact Player–WR Aaron Burbridge (6-1, 175) of Farmington Hills Harrison, MI has what it takes to become a go-to receiver in college. He possesses blazing speed, good hands, and knows how to get himself open. Sleeper–LB Jamal Lyles (6-3, 215) of Southfield Lathrup, MI played a little DE and a little OB but came up big earning 1st Team All-State honors in 2011. Known for his ability to shed blockers and find the ball.
Also keep an eye on a couple of junior college All-Americans Eric Simmons, a 6-3, 300 pound OG from Iowa Western CC, and QB Cody Sokol (6-3, 210) from Scottsdale CC. In state RB Barkley Hill (5-11, 190) from Cedar Falls is a two-time All-Staters. On signing day they were able to pull in super swift DB Sean Draper (6-0, 170) of Cleveland Glenville, OH; QB C.J. Beathard (6-2, 185) from Franklin, TN; WR George Kittle of Norman, OK; and in-state LB Nate Meier (6-2, 235) of Tabor, IA.
Bottom Line–Although the Spartans did not land many blue chip players, what’s new? They are one of those programs that recruit players not based on how many stars they have, but based on how they feel they will fit into their system. The Spartans have always done a great job of developing the players they’ve evaluated and signed. This year will be no different and you can bet several of these unknown ball players will become stars at East Lansing over the next four years.
Impact Player–RB Greg Garmon earned 1st Team All-State honors rushing for over 1,000 yds for the second straight season and 15 TDs.
LB Riley Bullough
Sleeper–DB Maurice Fleming (6-1, 180) from Chicago Curie was a QB as a junior. He missed most of his senior year with an ankle year but he has been timed in a 4.3 40 and shows great football instincts.

Bottom Line–There may not be another school in the country that can evaluate the way the Iowa Hawkeyes do. 35. Utah Utes
36. TCU Horned Frogs
Being a member of the PAC-12 has its rewards and Utah certainly took advantage of it this recruiting season. Locally they were able to land OL Zach Lindsay (6-7, 260) of Kaysville; underrated DB Austin Lee (6-0, 190) of Sandy; one of the better athletes in the West Chase Hansen (6-3, 200) of Highland; DE Hunter Dimick (6-4, 250) of Syracuse; and of course Semper Fi All-American DE Moana Ofahengaue (6-4, 210) of Saratoga.
Moving to a bigger named conference has certainly helped the TCU recruiting efforts. This class has a few out of state prospects including one of the nation’s premier signal callers QB Tyler Matthews (6-3, 205) from McPherson, KS; hard hitting LB James McFarland (6-3, 240) of West Monroe, LA; DB Jordan Moore (6-3, 210) of Lithonia, GA; and DB Zach Jackson (6-1, 180) from Snellville, GA. Of course the bulk of this outstanding class hails from the Lone Star state and includes All-American DE Devonte Fields (6-4, 240) of Arlington; underrated OL Aviante Collins (6-6, 310) of Houston; 6-5, 280 Chad Childs of LaGrange; 6-6, 270 OL Hala Vaitai of Haltom City; underrated DT Joey Hunt (6-3, 300) of El Campo; also keep an eye on TE Griffin Gilbert (6-5, 215) of Austin; RB B.J. Catalon (5-8, 190) of Houston; underrated QB Austin Aune (62, 185) of Argyle; four-star RB LaDarius Anthony (6-0, 195) of Kilgore and one of the top three prospects in Northeast Texas; and keep an eye on All-American DB Keivon Gamble (5-10, 190) of Trinity Valley C.C.
Out of a state a big catch both literally and figuratively was OL Cedrick Poutasi (6-5, 320) of Las Vegas, NV is one of that state’s top three prospects; super swift DB Justin Thomas of Orange, TX; underrated Travis Wilson, a 6-6, 210 pound quarterback from San Clemente, CA; and JC All-American RB Kelvin York (5-11, 220) of Fullerton C.C. A couple of other talents to keep an eye on are Hiva Lutui (6-3, 300) of Euless, TX, and rangy FB Alphonso Marsh (6-3, 180) of Compton, CA. Impact Player–OL Cedrick Poutasi of Las Vegas Desert Pines was a powerhouse who can bench 350 and dominate as both a run and pass blocker. He shows remarkable quick feet and agility.
Impact Player–QB Tyler Matthews (6-3, 205) of McPherson, KS looked great at several camps this summer. He has the arm strength, quick feet, and leadership skills to lead the Horned Frogs into BCS contention.
Sleeper–DE Moana Ofahengaue (6-4, 210) of Saratoga Westlake, UT has totaled over 50 sacks in his prep career, has the frame to weigh 250, has the explosive moves of an NFL standout; and a great attitude.
Sleeper–RB LaDarius Anthony (6-0, 195) of Kilgore, TX is a four-star prospect with vision, balance, speed, and instincts. I rank him as one of the top three prospects in Northeast Texas and he has what it takes to make an impact as a true freshman.
Bottom Line–Joining the PAC-12 has allowed Utah more access to some of the best talent in the Golden State. They hit the high schools and the junior colleges hard and came up with their best class in five years. WR OL DL DL QB LB LB OL DB DL OL OL OL DB WR DL DL DB OL OL OL OL DE DB DL DT QB RB

37. Mississippi State Bulldogs
Sheldon Rankins (6-3, 260) of Covington, GA; one of the more productive defensive players in the south Keith Brown (6-1, 225) of Miami, FL; DB Gerod Holliman (6-0, 185) from Milford Academy; and James Burgess, a 6-0, 210 pound Semper Fi All-American LB from Homestead, FL.
The Bulldogs took advantage of the coaching change at OLE MISS and dominated the state of Mississippi in 2011/2012. This class is definitely a Mississippi class and the group is led by such notables at DT Quay Evans (6-2, 295) of Morton; RB Xavier Grindle (5-10, 185) of Columbia; potential super DT Nick James (6-5, 330) of Long Beach; DE A.J. Jefferson of Summit; two-way standout Adarrus Perkins (6-2, 190) of Brooklyn; one of the top skill position players in the state Cedric Jiles (6-0, 190) of Clinton; and DE Nelson Adams (6-5, 260) of Brandon.
Of course they did not neglect the offensive side of the ball zeroing in on QB Will Gardner (6-5, 200) from Douglas, GA; some outstanding OL prospects in Joe Manley (6-7, 300) from Bowling Green, KY; T.C. Klusman (6-4, 270) of Cincinnati, OH; underrated but very productive DeAndre Herron (6-5, 310) of Avon, IN; Abraham Garcia (6-6, 330) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and Sid Anvoots (6-4, 285) of Indianapolis, IN. A couple of other offensive players to keep your eye on TE Hunter Bowles (6-6, 240) of Glasgow, KY, and TE Ryan Hubbell, a 6-5, 235 pounder and a JC All-American from Iowa Western.
Also keep an eye on three junior college All-Americans in potential super DE Denico Autry (6-6, 252) of East Mississippi CC; and a couple of OL’s Dillon Holley (6-3, 310) of Golf Coast CC and Charles Ciddoway (6-6, 300) of Butte CC. On signing day they were excited to land LB Richie Brown (6-2, 225) from Long Beach, MS and one of the top two prospects in Southern Mississippi.
Impact Player–LB Keith Brown (6-1, 225) from Miami Norland is a backer who can run a 4.5 40 and can get to the ball quicker than almost any other linebacker in the country. He’s tough, aggressive, and very instinctive.
Impact Player–DT Quay Evans totaled 72 tackles, 4½ QB sacks, and 4 forced fumbles on his way to earning 1st Team All-State honors in 2011.
Sleeper–DB Gerod Holliman (6-0, 185) formally of Miami Southridge, FL but played the 2011 season at Milford Academy as a superior pass defender and punt returner.
Sleeper–DB Will Redmond (6-0, 180) of Memphis East is a terrific cover corner and FS and ranks as one of the two best players in western Tennessee. He shows great speed to the ball and instincts.
Bottom Line–It was an exceptionally poor year for talent in the state of Kentucky but Louisville more than made up for it with their outstanding effort in the state of Florida. They have become a recruiting force not only in Louisville but also in Florida, Georgia, and Ohio.
Bottom Line–The Bulldogs dominated the state of Mississippi from north to south landing several potential All-Americans. They most certainly helped themselves on the defensive side of the ball and addressed their needs along the offensive line. DT S K DE LB WR LB DE OL DB OL RB DT RB WR DT DE CB TE S TE QB TE DT

39. Minnesota Gophers
38. Louisville Cardinals
This is not only a big class but a very talented class. For the first time in a long time the Gophers were able to corral most of the top stars in the state and that list includes WR Andre McDonald, a Semper Fi AllAmerican from Minnetonka who at 6-3, 200 pounds runs a 4.5 40 showing sure hands and terrific separation speed; the state’s Player of the year QB Phillip Nelson (6-3, 220) of Mankato; one of the nation’s most underrated LT prospects and a future All-American 6-9, 310 Jonah Pirsig of Blue Earth; Semper Fi All-American TE/punter/long snapper Maxx Williams (6-4, 220) of Waconia; one of the more gifted athletes in the Midwest
Head coach Charlie Strong has quickly put his stamp on this Cardinal program. This season he, once again, brought in athletes at every single position but particularly on the defensive side of the ball. That group is led by such talented performers as DE Pedro Sibiea (6-3, 260) of Homestead, FL; LB Nick Dawson (6-2, 230) of Charlotte, NC; DT DeAngelo Brown (6-1, 285) of Savannah, GA; DE Larry Jefferson (6-3, 225) of College Park, GA; LB Pat Jean (6-3, 210) of Port St. Lucie, FL; super strong DT Dequan Ivery (6-1, 310) of Lake City, FL; quick footed DE

two-way player Duke Anyanwu (6-4, 220) of Blaine; super sleeper WR Isaac Fruechte, a 6-3, 219 pounder with 4.4 speed from Rochester C.C.; hard throwing QB Mitch Leidner (6-4, 220) of Lakeville; and OG Isaac Hayes (6-3, 270) of Mendota Heights.
They also headed east towards Philadelphia to pull out DB Williams Parks (6-2, 180) of Germantown and then headed west into Ohio to land hard charging DE Darryl Render (6-3, 240) of Cleveland. They also landed the Davis twins Chris and Demitrious both two-way players from Austintown. To get the quarterback they had been looking for they had to head all the way down to Cleveland, TN to land one of the nation’s premier signal callers Chad Voytik, a 6-1, 185 pounder with a rifle arm, smarts, quick feet, and a winning attitude. Pittsburgh closed strongly landing Semper Fi All-American LB Deaysean Rippy (6-2, 200) of McKees Rocks, PA, and hard hitting FS Bam Bradley (6-2, 200) of Trotwood, OH.
Out of state they were able to corral All-State WR Jamel Harbison, a 6-0, 185 pounder from Charlotte, NC; JC All-American RB James Gillum (5-11, 200) of Golf Coast C.C.; JC All-American DB Jeremy Baltazar (6-0, 200) of Blinn C.C.; RB Rod Williams (5-11, 222) of Lewisville, TX; and keep an eye on DE Lincoln Plsek (6-3, 230) of Waco, TX; and JC DB Martez Chabazz (5-11, 175) from Trinity Valley C.C. Impact Player–QB Philip Nelson ranks 40th in our top 100 after throwing for 2,784 yds and 35 TDs and rushing for 1,243 yds and 20 scores in 2011. He holds the state record for 135 career TDs.
Impact Player–RB Rushel Shell (6-0, 210) of Aliquippa Hopewell, PA is not only the all-time leading rusher in Western PA but a back who is destined for greatness in the Big East. This season he carried the ball 311 times for 2,312 yds and 28 TDs. A three-time 1st Team All-Stater.
Sleeper–TE Maxx Williams (6-4, 220) of Waconia, MN is a Jack of all trades. His father played 10 years with the New York Giants and Maxx is a sure handed TE with outstanding blocking skills and very good speed. He can also long snap, punt, and play linebacker.
Sleeper–WR Trenton Coles (6-3, 175) from Clairton is a WR who runs a 4.4 40 and was a WPIAL champ in the 100, 200, and 400 meters. Bottom Line–Let’s hope new head coach Paul Chryst will stay for more than just a couple of months. If he does the Panthers can really take off not only in the conference but nationally. Western Pennsylvania is a great area for talent and if things are done right then the Panthers should get more than their share.
Bottom Line–Head Coach Jerry Kill has put together an outstanding group of high school and junior college athletes with a good number of them ready to make an impact as early as this fall. They dominated the state of Minnesota and also proved to be adept at national recruiting. ATH TE OT DT S WR WR DT C WR TE OT OG PRO PRO WR TE PRO OT DE S OG S TE RB

41. Colorado Buffaloes Although they did not have great success in state, the Buffalos more than made up for it with their Texas and California recruiting. Standouts from the Lone Star state heading to Boulder will be WR Jeffrey Thomas (6-3, 180) of Duncanville; WR Gerald Thomas (5-10, 170) of The Colony; WR Peyton Williams (6-1, 185) of Southlake; sure handed TE Sean Irwin (6-4, 225) of Cypress; another athletic TE Vincent Hobbs (6-3, 230) of Mesquite; and RB Terrence Crowder (5-10, 210) of Galena Park.
40. Pittsburgh Panthers
From California comes Christian Powell, an athlete from Upland; RB Davien Payne (5-11, 210) of Perris; four-star QB Shane Dillon (6-5, 190) from El Cajon; and OL Gerrad Kough (6-5, 270) of Pomona. In a good year for talent only a couple of in-state players climbed on board most notably RB/LB Clay Norgard (6-2, 240) of Highlands Ranch and OT Tyler Henington (6-3, 270) of Denver. A trio of stars from back East are DE De’Jon Wilson (6-3, 240) of Washington D.C.; DB Ken Crawley of Washington D.C.; and DB Yuri Wright (6-2, 180) of Ramsey, NJ.
Having six head coaches in a little over one year could be very detrimental to a recruiting class. Still, once the smoke cleared, I was very impressed with this Panther class of 2012. They did an outstanding job of keeping the local guys happy bringing in TE J.P. Holtz of Pittsburgh; Semper Fi All-American OL Adam Bisnowaty (6-6, 275) of Pittsburgh; all-everything RB Rushel Shell (6-0, 210) of Aliquippa; underrated DT Ty Jarrett (6-3, 310) of Pittsburgh; sure handed and swift WR Trenton Coles of Clairton; and LB Mike Caprara (6-0, 215) of Pittsburgh.

Impact Player–Yuri Wright (6-2, 180) from Ramsey Don Bosco Prep, NJ is one of the top cover corners in the country. He got in trouble this past January after tweeting some very distasteful remarks but Colorado is taking a chance on him anyway, and what they are getting is a premier player with long arms, quick feet, and explosive moves.

Bottom Line–If the Buffalos could put a fence around their state, and do as well out of state as they did this year, look out, they could be on their way. 43. West Virginia Mountaineers This is a very big class but not only a big class, a class loaded with potential blue chippers starting with WR Deontay McManus, a go-to, very strong, and sure handed receiver from Baltimore, MD. It also includes Devonte Robinson, a 6-2, 175 pound WR from Delray Beach, FL; WR Darreal Joyner of Miami; underrated and huge TE Will Johnson (6-7, 250) of Osseo, MN; and LB Garrett Hope (6-3, 220) of The Woodlands, TX. There are no local players in this class but plenty of players from Florida and Texas. Other players from the Sunshine and Lone Star states are bullet-throwing signal caller Ford Childress (6-4, 210) of Houston; super strong DT Imarjaye Albury (6-1, 280) of Miami; super swift DB Karl Joseph (5-11, 190) of Orlando; DE Noble Nwachukwu (6-2, 240) of Wylie, TX; and WR Devonte Mathis (6-2, 200) of Miramar, FL. Mountaineer fans should also be excited about LB Sam Lebbie (6-2, 240) of Hyattsville, MD and super swift DB Brandon Napoleon, a high school QB who can run a 4.4 40 from Jersey City, NJ.
42. North Carolina Tar Heels Although they lost a good number of the top stars in state, the Tar Heels still put together a pretty solid class. This class includes such out of state standouts as WR Quinshad Davis (6-3, 180) of Gaffney, SC; Florida standouts LB Joseph Jackson (6-2, 210) of Jacksonville; LB Shakeel Rashad (6-2, 215) of Jacksonville; and DB Clinton Heaven (6-0, 190) of Bradneton. Locally, although they lost a good number of the state’s top players they still managed to sign QB James Summers (6-3, 205) from Greensboro; LB Phillip Williamson (6-3, 210) of Durham; one of the state’s top OL’s J.J. Patterson (6-4, 310) of Roanoke Rapids; TE Terrance Knox (6-2, 240) of Concord; and the very athletic Kedrick Davis (5-10, 165) of Charlotte.
Impact Player–WR Deontay McManus (6-2, 215) of Baltimore Dunbar, MD caught 40 passes for 590 yds and totaled 102 tackles at DB. Sleeper–QB Ford Childress (6-4, 210) of Houston Kinkaid, TX is a prostyle signal caller with a super strong arm, decent feet, and who shows great leadership skills. Bottom Line–This has to rank as one of the Mountaineers best classes in a long time. They have recruited more nationally showing good success in the Midwest and very good success in Florida and Texas.
Impact Player–OL J.J. Patterson (6-4, 310) of Roanoke Rapids, NC took a backseat to D.J. Humphries but after watching him on senior film this guy can play with anyone either at tackle or guard. He’s a powerhouse with great feet, strength, and flexibility.
DT DT RB QB RB ATH DB OL DB DE
Sleeper–LB Joseph Jackson (6-2, 210) of Jacksonville First Coast, FL is an all around backer who has played OLB, ILB, FS, and SS in high school. No matter where you put him he can make a difference. Bottom Line–This is not a bad class when you consider the coaching change and all that North Carolina has been through over the past twelve months. They may have lost a good number of top in-state stars but more than made up for it with their Florida recruiting.

Locally they are excited about three junior college All-Americans OL Darone Bailey (6-6, 315) of Coahoma C.C.; DB Dehendret Collins (5-11, 175) of Copiah-Lincoln C.C.; and QB Bo Wallace (6-5, 210) of East Mississippi C.C. Their local prep haul was just as impressive led by All-American DT Isaac Gross (6-3, 270) of Batesville; his teammate DE Temario Strong (6-2, 210) of Batesville; blue chip DE Channing Ward (6-4, 250) of Aberdeen; and DB Quintavius Burdette (5-10, 180) of Senatobia.
However, this class is ranked #44 because of their out of state recruits like super talented WR Trey Griffey (6-2, 190) of Orlando, FL and the son of Hall of Fame outfielder Ken Griffey; super swift DE Kyle Kelley (6-3, 230) of Irvine, CA; OL T.D. Gross (6-6, 260) of Santee, CA; LB C.J. Impact Player–RB I’Tavius Mathers (6-0, 195) from Murfreesboro Blackman, TN. He might have been the top prospect in the state of Tennessee this year. He earned Player of the Year honors in central Tennessee after rushing for 2,253 yds and 27 TDs, and earned class AAA Mr. Football award. Sleeper–DB Trae Elston (6-0, 185) from Oxford, AL is a four-star player in my book but most people have him rated with three stars. Obviously they did not see what I saw because when I was in Oxford watching film on Mr. Elston he blew me away with his hard hitting style of play and range.
Impact Player–DE Kyle Kelley (6-3, 230) of Irvine Woodbridge, CA needs to add weight and strength but the explosive moves, balance, and aggressive style of play is certainly there. Sleeper–WR Wayne Capers (6-1, 205) Pittsburgh Chartiers Valley, PA played QB, RB, WR, and DB. When healthy, he was one of the better athletes in Western PA.
Bottom Line–New head coach Hugh Freeze, having coached in the Memphis area and at OLE MISS, is very familiar with the northern Mississippi area and of course the city of Memphis. In a short period of time he did a great job in those two areas and I expect him to do even better with a full year under his belt.
Bottom Line–Give coach Rich Rodriguez one full year and watch what happens. This is a very good class and it was put together in a very short time. I’ve already been on the road a few months while I’m putting this magazine together, and I’ve been very impressed with Arizona’s early returns for the class of 2013. They will recruit heavily in California and Arizona but also dabble in Texas and Florida. 6-1, 180 6-1, 207 5-10, 170 6-4, 285 6-2, 293 6-4, 240 6-1, 205 6-1, 210 6-5, 235 6-2, 205 6-1, 170 6-2, 190

New head coach Rich Rodriguez had very little time to put a class together but came up bigger than expected. It’s never a great year in the state of Arizona but this year was a very good one as the Wildcats landed some of the state’s better players like OL Zach Hemmila, a Semper Fi All-American from Chandler; LB Cody Ippolito (5-11, 122) of Scottsdale; underrated RB Anthony Lopez (5-11, 195) of Gilbert; and All-State DB Jamar Allah of Phoenix.

The Yellow Jackets are also excited about super swift Justin Thomas who could play QB, RB, WR, or DB and who hails from Prattville, AL; DB D.J. White of McDonough, GA; and super swift DB Antonio Crawford (5-11, 185) from Tampa, FL a 4.4 sprinter and a very productive player. Also keep a close eye on Tyler Stargel (6-3, 250) of Gulf Shores, AL. A couple of offensive players of note are OL Chase Roberts (6-3, 285) of Norcross, GA and OL Freddie Burden (6-3, 290) of Statesboro, GA.
Impact Player–Ifeadi Odenigbo (6-4, 210) from Centerville, OH is an outstanding DE who can play either DT or OLB in college. He recorded 42 tackles and 10½ sacks on his way to earning All-Dayton 1st Team honors. Sleeper–Dean Lowry from Rockford Boylan, IL has what it takes to make an impact at either the TE or DE positions. He looks thin at 230 and should wind up weighing between 260 and 270 in college. A superior pass rusher with good instincts, body control, and burst. Bottom Line–This is certainly your typical Northwestern class. Like Iowa, Michigan State, and Purdue, the Wildcats do a very good job of evaluating and have become a recruiting force nationally.
Impact Player–DE Francis Kallon (6-5, 265) of Lawrenceville Central Gwinnett, GA is only in his second year of football and has already become a dominating player. He has what it takes to become an impact player in college

Sleeper–QB Justin Thomas (5-11, 175) from Prattville, AL has been timed in a 4.29 40 giving Georgia Tech a super speedster either at QB, RB, WR, or DB. Bottom Line–You have to rank the Georgia Tech coaching staff as one of the very best in the country. Few schools can evaluate and then develop the talent the way the Yellow Jackets staff does. Most people won’t rank their class as high as I do but I’m very much aware of this staffs’ ability to make players play above their potential. 48. Oregon State Beavers It is rare that I have Oregon State ranked in the top 50 but this is one of those years and this is certainly one of those classes. This group is led by former All-American Stanley Hasiak, an OL from Hawaii via Mt. San Antonio C.C. It also includes such notables as OL Isaac Seumalo (6-3, 280) of Corvallis, OR who along with LB Joel Skotte (6-2, 225) of Bend, OR are the only two in-staters in the class. They once again hit California hard landing four offensive linemen of note Garrett Weinrich (6-6, 290) of Arroyo Grande; Grant Bays (6-3, 280) of Oceanside; Gavin Andrews (6-5, 285) of Granite Bay; and Chase Eldredge (6-4, 270) of Palos Verdes.
47. Northwestern Wildcats This is your typical Wildcat class with a few local products, a couple of blue chippers from around the country, but mainly under the radar type of athletes who are overachievers and who will (in all probability) keep the Wildcats in the top half of the BIG-TEN. Locally they are excited about RB Malin Jones (6-2, 195) of Joliet Catholic; RB Dan Vitale (6-2, 205) of Wheaton, IL; underrated DB Joe Jones (6-1, 200) of Plano; and hard charging, tough, and instinctive DE Dean Lowry (6-5, 225) of Rockford, IL
Their other successes in the Golden State were blue chip WR Malik Gilmore (6-3, 190) of Lakewood; JC All-American LB Dyllon Mafi (6-3, 215) of Laney C.C.; QB Brent VanderVeen (6-5, 200) of Arroyo Grande; and DB Chris Miller of Pomona. They also crossed the north border and raided the state of Washington for such talented players as All-American TE Caleb Smith (6-7, 240) of Renton; TE Dustin Stanton (6-6, 210) of Marysville; DB Tyler Hasty (6-0, 180) of Bellevue; and OL Josh Mitchell (6-3, 270) of Snoqualmie.

MARCH 2012
March 2012 Impact Player–WR Eugene Lewis (6-2, 180) of Plymouth Wyoming Valley, PA is a go-to receiver with blazing speed, great hands, and knows how to get open. He should play as a freshman this fall.
Impact Player–We had Caleb Smith (6-7, 240) of Kent-Kentridge, WA as a four-star player back in the summer and this season he did nothing to discredit that. A sure handed TE with outstanding blocking skills, he has averaged 17 yds per catch in his prep career.
Sleeper–RB Akeel Lynch really impressed me on senior film. He’s strong, quick, and agile with a great burst. He had a school record 376 yds vs. Bishop Timon this past October and totaled 2,136 yds and 30 TDs on 225 carries.
Sleeper–OL Isaac Seumalo (6-3, 280) from Corvallis, OR was one of the top three prospects in the state and can play OT, DT, or OG in college. Bottom Line–The Beavers went into this recruiting season looking for help along the offensive line and came up big. They also came up big at linebacker, tight end, and defensive back. Bottom Line–I thought the new staff did a very good job of keeping things together under very difficult circumstances. Although not a great class, this class is loaded with over achievers and at least seven potential blue chippers with the ability to play early.

50. North Carolina State Wolfpack
49. Penn State Nittany Lions
NC State came into this recruiting season looking for help at QB, defensive line, and in the secondary and filled their needs at all three spots. At QB they are excited about James Summers (6-3, 200) of Greensboro, NC and Manny Stocker (6-3, 200) of Coatesville, PA. I was also impressed with their in-state haul which includes not only Mr. Summers, but also DT K’Hadree Hooker (6-2, 280) of Deep Run; DE Joe Wright, a 6-6, 220 pounder of Greenville; DB Josh Sessoms (6-3, 195) of Bailey; OL Bryce Kennedy (6-3, 290) of Southern Pines; and DB Majid Salahuddin (6-3, 190) of Fayetteville.
On what looked like a top ten class back in early November has now evaporated into just a slightly below average class. The new staff did a good job of trying to keep their heads above water and although this class isn’t a disaster, it’s nothing compared to what it could have been. What they do have are several potential blue chippers and that includes Semper Fi All-American TE Jesse James (6-8, 250) of McKeesport, PA; and blue chip WR Eugene Lewis (6-2, 180) of Plymouth, PA. Another in-state prospect that has proven his worth is LB Nyeem Wartman (6-3, 220) of Archbald, PA, a 1st Team All-Stater at LB.
They also landed one of the state of Georgia’s top RB prospects in Shadrach Thornton (6-1, 210) of Hinesville and one of the Peach State’s top defensive players DE Kenderius Whitehead (6-5, 210) of Lithonia. Also keep an eye on DE Tyler Knox (6-4, 225) of Myrtle Beach, SC and two-way standout Lakeith Walls (6-3, 190) of Cleveland, OH.
Out of state they were able to land TE/LB Brent Wilkerson of Hyattsville, MD; one of the most underrated players in the East DT, Jamil Pollard (6-5, 280) of Westville, NJ; one of New York’s top three prospects and 1st Team All-Stater RB Akeel Lynch (6-0, 205) of Athol Springs, NY; underrated two-way tackle Brian Gaia (6-5, 285) of Baltimore and another Semper Fi All-American; and blue collar, tough as nails OL Anthony Stanko (6-5, 300) of Warren, OH. On signing day the Nittany Lions lost Skyler Mornhinweg but gained QB Steven Bench (6-3, 200) from Cairo, GA.
Impact Player–QB James Summers (6-3, 200) of Greensboro Page, NC really came into his own as a senior earning All-League, All-Area, and All-State honors. He shows a big-time arm and great production. Sleeper–DE Kenderius Whitehead (6-5, 210) of Lithonia King, GA showed outstanding skills at the Semper Fi game in January. Rangy, quick, and athletic enough to play either DE or OLB in college.

Bottom Line–Head Coach Tom O’Brien and his staff rank among the very best talent evaluators in the country. They seem to uncover gems on a consistent basis and also do a great job of developing the players once they get them.
