ANGLE Flat-pack Spatula
Form Exploration Polyethylene April 2013 2 Weeks
What is a spatula? What is a handle? Origami ideation resulted in over 20 iterations with the goal to maximize comfort and stability of the spatula scooping action. The final design features quick snap connection points and color identification to aid assembly as well as identify the handle.
For camping, backpacking, picnics, and the home, ANGLE aids consumers with a primary issue; space. Further design of a full dining set as “ANGLE Fold-ware” would increase the utility of the idea.

A distinct XYZ axis system gives the spatula stability while a tapered blade slides under edges of food with ease.

In the age of exploration, adventurers would bring back pressed objects in their journals for curious eyes at home to see the natural wonders of distant lands. Today, Poppy allows you to preserve the plant treasures and memories from your own travels. Each Poppy Nature Press is handmade using upcycled produce boxes from grocery stores, scrap cedar boards from construction sites, and yesterday’s newspaper.

POPPY Nature Press
Entrepreneurship Upcycled Materials October 2013 4 Weeks
come see 13 unique toys designed by the wwu id junior class at ideal nov. 1st - 15th
A toy for all ages, POPPY Nature Press was sold as part of a “ReMade Toys!” popup shop a Ideal Carefully Curated Goods in Bellingham, WA in November 2013. An additional order was made for sale in Spring 2014. To reduce waste, the front and back exterior flaps of the label tear off, leaving a cardboard-backed template for cutting moisture absorbent newspaper to use between layers. Designed for mass production, jigs (right) were created to maximize efficiency and quality management. In total, 24 POPPY presses were made.

SWING Tape Dispenser
Material Exploration Aluminum February 2013 1 Week
SWING is made for display as an interactive tool among other desk totems. With the goal to capture movement in a typically stationary object, original ideas played with rocking dispensers. Just as functional as it is entertaining, tape can be cut from a sharpened notch in SWING’s fulcrum. Sarah2014 O’Sell Sarah O’Sell
This (upper left) Adobe Illustrator cut and fold pattern for the final form is one of many tested layouts. Shapes can be nested to conserve material.

CAVE Tactile Tunnel
Design for a Nonprofit Plywood May 2013 4 Weeks
ShopBot Diagram
CAVE stools are designed to engage special education preschool students at Happy Valley Elementary in Bellingham, WA in both learning and play.
Inspiration came from the classroom’s touch table, which the kids favored for it’s versatility and as the ideal hiding place during play time.
Sarah2014 O’Sell Sarah O’Sell
The CAVE Tactile Tunnel was developed through weekly client interviews, childhood development and ergonomic research, sketching (upper left), foam models, Rhino modeling, Keyshot rendering (above), an Adobe Illustrator cut plan for a ShopBot (above), and hand-assembly.
