Is age just a number?
We are living in a culture that is telling us aging is a bad or scary thing, that a number is what defines us. People’s perceptions of ages has become number obsessed, having the idea that anything over 60 is too old and is “grandma like”. Tell that to the beautiful Carmen Dell Orefice or Daphne Selfe, being in their 80s embracing their natural beauty and still working as models. Why shouldn’t they, why should we have the perception that beauty has an expiration date? A number should not define us or determine whether we are still beautiful enough for this society and culture. If we were to define ourselves with a number why should it be by years, months, weeks or even days in which we’ve lived. What if we were to measure age by the wrinkles on your face or the scars on your body that tell the story of your life ‘the scar on your elbow from the time you fell when climbing trees’ All the little imperfections that make up the unique beauty in you. The number of fashion faux pas we’ve made along the way, those outrageous outfits we look back on and hang our head in shame, what were we thinking. Why can’t we age ourselves by fun and exciting things, the things that make us all unique and interesting. In that case what’s your number?
In collaboration with a graphic designer a printed fashion brand was developed. The focus being on unique one of a kind made to order printed fashion products.
Mocked up website design to show the process of the made to order printed products. First the selection of printed product, next given the option of sizing. Print design and placement is the USP of this venture, allowing the customer to customize a unique one of a kind printed product.
Each individual t-shirt is packaged with corresponding printed tags and postcards.
The simplistic t-shirt silhouette works well across all stlyes of prints and print placement.
Two of the prints designed for this breif. Using photoshop to manipulate photographed images into abstract repeating prints.
The Breif: In collaboration with a print designer and womenswear designer, design a contemporary printed mans shirt to sit alongside a woman’s dress cohesively. Taking inspiration from the print direction creatively pattern cut a man’s shirt with consideration to print placement.
“
The inspiration for this design came from the combination of henna pattern and flowers grown or found in Britain; this being a combination of my heritage and my upbringing.

Strong and harsh edge lighting highlight the shapes and movements created by the garments. Coloured gel lighting will pick out and give emphasis to the subtle colours of prints. Working collaboratively with Photographer Craig Brannon for creative direction of the lookbook shoot. Bold close ups and sharp strong positions to flatter the sculptural and artistic nature of the garments.
