WHAT DOES KEY CLUB MEAN TO YOU?

2

Key Club consists of service, but to me, its meaning is that

of love, honor, and integrity. Gifts of time, effort, and any other form of service bring happiness and joy to the world and contribute to the common good. - Chloe Cagle, Durant Editor

Key Club is a student lead program that teaches leadership, way of caring, and character building through service to the community and others. - Kenyon Black, District Administrator Key Club to me is place where you can make friends yet also

make a difference. Sometimes you can't always see the repercussions of what you're doing but when you can you see the profound effects you can have on others with small actions - Emmie Erwin, Guyer President Key Club allows me to see young people grow in character

and leadership in a up close and personal way. The friendships built between us clearly shows me the future is in good hands. - Kelly Poland, Assistant District Administrator Key Club is an opportunity to serve our community and do

something for others rather than ourselves. Key Club has helped me understand the importance of serving others as well as forming relationships through similar interests. - Janvi Patel, Guyer Editor Key Club means serving the community around you in a

meaningful way and making connections with people that will last a lifetime. - Caden Young, Denton President

DISTRICT

PROJECT

Each year at our Summer Board meeting, the District Board votes on a District Project that all of the clubs can focus on throughout the year. This year, the Board voted on a project named “Keep T-O Beautiful.” Through this project, we want you to focus on keeping your environment green, safe, and beautiful and to promote environmental conservation and awareness.

Service Ideas School Clean Up Bicycle Rally Birdhouse Construction Plan a Tree

Pick up trash around your school’s campus to restore its full beauty Promote the energy-saving benefits of bicycle transportation by making flyers to display around your school and community Construct simple birdhouses for use by birds around you school’s campus Identify a place in your community that needs for foliage and cultivate new life

GOVERNOR‘S

PROJECT

Every year, the Governor who is elected at District Convention choses a project that he or she wants the District to work on while serving the community. This year, our Governor Addi Duerksen selected for the District to focus on Alzheimer’s Disease. Through this project, she wants you help people in your community who are suffering from this disease that affects the brain and its memory capacity.

Service Ideas Raise Awareness Letter Writing

Visit

Encourage students at your school to learn more about Alzheimer's Disease by hosting a purple spirit day Write some cards to be sent to community members who suffer from the disease. Tell them a funny joke, the best part of school, or your favorite Key Club memory to help to entertain them. If allowed, visit community members with Alzheimer’s Disease. Bring fun, easy games to play, some of those letters to keep the spirit alive after you leave, and a light heart to keep them happy.

MAJOR EMPHASIS PROJECTS Children’s Miracle Network Kiwanis family members participate with Children’s Miracle Network by sponsoring fundraising events and conducting service projects at their local children’s hospitals.

March of Dimes Kiwanis family members partner with March of Dimes by raising thousands of dollars annually to give every baby a healthy start.

The ELIMINATE Project Kiwanis family members joined forces with UNICEF to raise $110 million to help eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus from the planet.

YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES FUND The Youth Opportunities Fund is a grant given to Key Club members and clubs who apply through Kiwanis International. These grants fund service projects in the community. Grants may include anywhere from $100 to $2,000. The applications for the grant are due by October 15th, 2018 at 10:59pm Central Time.

The Key Club International Board reviews all of the applications and decides where the endowed funds are allocated. Recipients of the grant receive notification in the first week of January.

This grant gives all of our clubs an opportunity to expand the impact that our clubs can make. This year, one of the division’s clubs successfully received a grant and is using the funding to promote literacy in the elementary schools of their area. This club, Durant High School, is making great strides in their community.

Applications require a cover letter which is a short biological statement, a detailed budget worksheet, and the ability to submit a video about the proposed project and the club which is seeking the funding. 13
