Music, Free+Legal= “Freegal.” FREE MUSIC... FROM US TO YOU. What is it? Freegal Music is a database that lets library patrons download and keep music... permanently. Download and keep up to three MP3 tracks per week, or one video and one song per week (music videos usually count as two songs) from a selection of more than 7,000,000 songs and more than 13,000 videos... and not a “return” date in sight.
Revised 4.25.14
How does it work? Freegal Music works with all major browsers as well as all computer operating systems. You can even create a wish list so you’ll remember which songs you want to download in the future. Your online “counter” will set back to zero each week on Monday morning, so you can start downloading all over again. In addition, Freegal’s mobile application is compatible with iOS (found in the App store) and Android devices (found in Google Play).
Can I download everything through the library’s Wi-Fi? You can download music, but music videos may be difficult due to bandwidth. Can I download music on a library computer? No, you cannot download music or music videos. Does Freegal save my music? No. The music or videos you download will be held for only two weeks in your “downloads” folder on the Freegal site. Files must be moved to another location (i.e., iTunes) if you want to keep them permanently. What do I need to get started? Your library card and PIN. So have fun and get to downloading! Questions? Visit scgov.net/library or call (941) 861-5000
How do I access Freegal? Library Wi-Fi, home PCs or devices such as iPhone or iPod
Sarasota County prohibits discrimination in all services, programs or activities. View the complete policy at https://www.scgov.net/ADA/Pages/default.aspx.
