GENERAL INFORMATION Sarasota County Parks and Recreation Events Guide Sarasota County Parks and Recreation publishes its Events Guide twice a year and distributes it throughout the county at key locations, as well as online at scgov.net/parks. Become a Friend of Sarasota County Parks Do you appreciate Sarasota County’s incredible network of more than 200 parks, beaches and natural areas? Would you like to help maintain and improve these priceless resources for today’s families and future generations? Then Friends of Sarasota County Parks, Inc. (FOSCP) is for you. FOSCP’s mission is “to promote, enhance and maintain community support for Sarasota County parks and public recreational lands through activities, fundraising and volunteer efforts,” which means we welcome your creative ideas! Many parks already have a dedicated chapter of FOSCP; examples include Friends of the Carlton Reserve, Friends of The Legacy Trail, Friends of Newtown Estates Park, Friends of Woodmere Park, Friends of Shamrock Park, and Friends of the Paw Parks. These chapters are an excellent way to focus the energy of people who use and love our Sarasota County parks. Have a favorite park that doesn’t yet have a chapter? Consider helping form a new one under the umbrella of the FOSCP organization. Volunteer opportunities range from helping plan a fundraiser to working as a kayak paddler, from serving food at a triathlon to helping build a garden or write a grant, and much more. The opportunities are as varied as our volunteers. Contact us at 941-275-9397 or visit us online at www.foscp.org for more information about forming your own local chapter of Friends of Sarasota County Parks. And remember, annual memberships and donations are tax deductible.
Get involved—volunteer! Have you ever considered donating your time and talents to help Sarasota County parks? By volunteering you can… • Acquire valuable job skills • Become an adult role model • Contribute to your community • Enrich young minds • Make friends and meet new people • Share a smile • Spend time outdoors • Use your hands • Use your heart All types of volunteers are needed, from one-time event helpers to long-term, committed planning members. You decide how much time you want to volunteer and we’ll match your skills and interests to activities you’ll enjoy. Visit scgov.net or contact the Sarasota County Call Center at 941-861-5000 today, and ask about volunteering in Sarasota County Parks!
