Art in the Park 2016
ENVIRONMENTALEXPRESSIONS brings together four artists - Gammy Miller, Kathryn Bilharz Gabriel, Mara Lefebvre, and Paula Overbay - who create work directly influenced by their respective surroundings and upbringings. These tangible and sometimes conceptual world observations are the root of each body of work in this exhibition.
Saturday, July 9th, 10am-5pm!
" Saturday, September 17th, 10am-4pm! "
Art in the Park is two separate days of fine art in Saratoga Springs' historic downtown Congress Park, curated and presented by Saratoga Arts. Each exhibition features artists from the greater Saratoga and Capital regions, displaying and selling their original two- and three-dimensional creations and personally-designed and crafted functional art in a beautiful park setting. Artists will be on hand to discuss their drawing, painting, ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, photography, printmaking, and work in other media. This year's event will include prizes, local music, great food and a Kidz Art Zone!"

GAMMY MILLER
Gammy Miller considers herself a naturalist. Her drawings are part of an exploration into the ideas of natural selection. Influenced by her meanders into ornithology, botany, and marine biology, her drawings depict imaginary non-viable organisms, victims perhaps of an evolutionary process gone awry. She means them to be humorous and yet convey a sense of warning. "
"
Gammy Miller is a self-instructed artist with an abiding interest in natural history. Her art has been widely exhibited, including solo exhibitions at the Hudson Opera House in Hudson, New York and Courthouse Gallery in Lake George. Miller’s work can be found at The Decorative Arts Museum in Little Rock, Arkansas, as well as the Roberson Center for the Arts and Sciences in Binghamton, New York. She currently resides in New York, New York.

PAULA OVERBAY
Paula Overbay’s works comment on cells collecting into a form. They could be small invisible amoeba, or animals in the water or the air; there is no empty space. Cells are everywhere, moving from form to form. They are forever changing and contributing to daily life in ways that are often overlooked."
"
Paula Overbay lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She holds a BFA from the Pacific Northwest College of Arts and an MFA from Carnegie Mellon University. In August 2015, she was an artist in residence at the Saltonstall Foundation in Ithaca, New York. Her work can be found in many national, international, public and private collections; she is represented by Muriel Guepin Gallery in New York, New York.

KATHRYN BILHARZ GABRIEL
" Seeing her work as an expression of her environment, Kathryn Bilharz Gabriel is a product of the contexts that have built her life. Mixing mechanical, visual, and scientific interests, she creates a strange world: part nostalgic postPop graphics and color, and part romantic impulsive drawing. Her subjects are derived from the many mechanical parts in her surroundings and personal interests in technology and the natural landscape, as well as a fascination with her family’s deep history in the sciences."
"
Kathryn Bilharz Gabriel holds a BFA from the College of Saint Rose, and a dual degree in Art Education and an MFA from the University at Albany. She currently teaches fine art at Fayetteville-Manlius High School near Syracuse, New York, where she resides.

MARA LEFEBVRE The found objects used by Mara Lefebvre reflect where she has been and who she has been in contact with: a diary of ephemera. Often searching on roadsides, yard sales, and dumpsters, she uses like items to complete her series of work. Disliking a significant alteration of items, she is challenged to let the innate pieces of paper stay the same as it was originally discovered. "
"
Mara Lefebvre holds a degree in Fine Art and Arts Administration from Skidmore College. She has exhibited work in multiple galleries, including a solo exhibition at Bulmer Gallery in Troy. Lefebvre has been an artist in residence at Mendocino Art Center in California, as well as an artist consultant for New York Foundation of the Arts. She lives in Latham."
