nursery school Final Thesis | A Coru単a, Spain | 2015 First years of our lives are crucial so architecture can participate actively providing different space feelings for the kids. At the beginning of the idealization process appears the concept of house which is easily recognizable bythe smaller ones because its characteristic roof. Based on this concept, a reinterpretation will be considering to the integration into the local environment where the sloping roofs are main part of the traditional architecture. However, they will arrive on parallel way in order to evoke medians between buildings which are in local architecture.

strategy The project will solve the use of nursery school trying to be integrate with a rural environment that it’s begining be developed, and being the roof as the main element. The roof provide different perceptions of one space and communicates the nursery with Arteixo local architecture.

Based on a linear space in which it is distributed through a broker decomposition into single elements, the classrooms, so they can be easily be recognizable by the user as well as the reorganization in a space fits to the needs. The proposal is made by moving the classroom element with respect to the anterior or posterior one making this unique and clearly identifiable. A linear axis in order to create a visual and functional connection and to divide the space so that a part is closed and one it is more open to create playing areas for the exhibition of the work done in the classroom. This space is outside the classroom but spatially is part of it and it’s illuminated by a green outdoor patio. The outside playground will be ordered by the same way, a variety of flooring generates different play areas in the same space.

In order to provide privacy to the users, the access to the nursery is located in a level intermediate between the nearest streets. Functionally, it could be divided into two areas: teaching and service. The first one is characterized by geometry generated by the roof that identifies each classroom, common areas and dining room. The relationship between this two areas is done through the garden that will absorb the irregular geometry of the plot at the same time that introduces the natural environment into the building. Inside of the building, the administrative area is linked to the access area, the classrooms will be placed near the entrance on the east side in order to provide sunlight and to avoid shadows originated by surrounding buildings.

construction

In the design of the proposed building, material plays an essential role. The zinc roof that folds and causes the exterior facade convey the feeling of lightness and mobility as if it were a wave. It also seeks a material that evolves, changes and grows with the children; and also, on the other side, makes contrast with wood parts. Wood is chosen because of the importance of natural elements, also it brings the warmth that does not have the zinc and therefore stands at the places where users spend more time.

The origin of the project is the reinterpretation of the Villa Torni to adapt to new needs. The creation of the museum and laboratory buried has been decided to minimize its presence and strengthen the presence of the baroque courtyards that maintain their position but at the level of the museum, creating spaces for rest and relaxation inside the museum. On the surface, the buildings necessary for the continuation of its current use as a nursing home (residence, nursing, library, and gym) and the new creation of two new courtyards that complements the program will be located. nursing home, library and gym

natural museum and laboratories, medical rooms and gym

strategy Agriculture is the origin of the Villa Torni so that’s why we decided to reinventing it as a nature research center that will feature an interactive museum for citizens as well as a laboratory for scientists and kept well use of residence for sick and elderly. This wide program will be solved by a scenically side through the recovery of the river that creates the border so that a flood zone in which the new gardens as a reinterpretation of the complexity of Italian baroque gardens in where visitors will have access to the different species of the museum.

general plan

The strong presence of the courts emerges from the interest in returning their presence in Villa Torni as much as they were in the Baroque period when the Villa was constructed. In addition to this, there are new courtyards whose function is to provide light and ventilation to the underground spaces and be a place of relax and enjoyment. section museum entrance

noland house Nowhere | 2014 The proposed project was a house which could be located in anywhere so that creates many possibilities about its location or orientation so we decided to move forward on two fronts plant. On the one hand, a double industrial skin made by steel frame of 3x3m panels with plastic fabric to filter the light and that prevent from the outside view so the user could decide to close or open it. On the other hand, the inner box of translucent polycarbonate is ordered by a modulation that follows the rules of the Japanese tatami architecture. The 3x6 tatami module could generate many opportunities taking into account the view or orientation of the place where noland house will be. Tatami modulation allows us total freedom in the provision of housing from commodities or modules. The proposed dwelling is just one example generated from these premises but would vary according to the site characteristics with which we found ourselves giving rise to different types of houses tatami. While the structure of the protective facade stands to mark its industrial character, the housing structure is treated with tubularess of 90x3mm and hides to avoid its presence and create a space that seems to float behind the great elevation .

music and dance school Regensburg, Alemania | 2012 developed in collaboration with Tania Pereira Ă lvarez

Dalberg Palais is an important building with a lot of history in the city of Regensburg but now it's ruined, the objetive of the project is the transformation into a a new school of art and music for the city of Regensburg. With this project, we externalize're new uses, introducing dance and music to the city. But how? We start from a building very compartmentalized and with a very rigid monumental structure without large spaces however, our needs differ greatly from this system. The roof is a singular point of the building because it allows us comunicate with local architecture and also gives us the opportunity of externalizer this new function of the palace to the city. The new space under the roof was large and high with a lot of natural light, conditions very important into a dance and music school.

art creation center Vigo, Spain | 2014 developed in collaboration with JesĂşs Romero | Alberto Rodriguez

An old factory, almost ruined down, isolated and inaccessible for people since it stopped working, but still so present in town, conserving its privilege location and letting people know what the past is about by telling the history of the town and of its population. It was originally a place to work and just like that we wanted to get it back. According to the needs of modern society, we proposed a building complex for a wide open cultural activities to take place in. It include the State Library, which would be located in the main building, many rooms and spaces to let for musical, dance and singing training, as well as many places to hold art performances and exhibitions. The program includes also an art museum, located in the silos structure, which will be preserved conserving its original volume and space configuration. We also proposed a new construction which will accommodate an open interior space to develop art creation and will offer a large public place for all the people of Vigo. This was a very important aspect because this public space becomes a symbol of the conversion of a private property into public domain, which apart from that, makes the pedestrian connectivity work allowing to make contact among several streets at pretty different heights.
