2019 Agricultural Trade Show March 14, 15 & 16 Regional Recreation Complex Falher, Alberta

Dear Dunvegan-Central Peace – Notley constituents Welcome to the 2019 SARDA Ag Research Agricultural Tradeshow. Now in its 31st year, this event has become a valuable networking hub for the agriculture industry and community members.

CONNECTED TO OUR CUSTOMERS. COMMITTED TO OUR COMMUNITIES. CREATING DEMAND FOR CANADIAN GRAINS.

This year’s theme: Visions of Change reflects the forward-looking work of the SARDA board and staff. From the research group’s extensive on-farm research work that helps guide farmers’ future crop choices to summer schools which offer hands-on learning to their extensive research library that offers farmers the latest research, SARDA has proven its value. Our government is proud to partner with SARDA and the other research groups across the province by continuing support and funding for research. Agriculture is a key economic driver in the region and our government knows research is key to maintaining and capitalizing on the advantages of farming in the Peace River region. This weekend’s trade show celebrates the importance of agriculture, the farmers and ranchers who have chosen this life, the families who live in the towns and villages and keep our communities vibrant and the volunteers who have spent hours to make this trade show happen. Thank you to all the exhibitors, attendees and volunteer. I look forward to visiting with everyone this weekend. Also, Min. McCuaig-Boyd is not able to attend the Farmers’ Appreciation Dinner due to a prior commitment but she will be around the booth at the trade show during the day on Mar 14 or 15th. Hon. Margaret McCuaig-Boyd Dunvegan Central Peace-Notley To kick things off, it is my pleasure to extend a warm and sincere welcome to all the exhibitors and visitors to the 2019 SARDA Agricultural Trade Show. Despite being a small community, Falher has offered and executed many high caliber trade shows, and we do not expect anything different in 2019. On behalf of the Board of Directors, we know that the benefits to both exhibitors and visitors will be exceptional, and worth the trip. With a focus on helping producers become more profitable in their operations, SARDA Ag Research is proud to offer tools such as this trade show to connect producers to as many exhibitors and businesses in one location, without needing to travel far. SARDA Ag Research has also taken extra steps, such as eliminating the membership fee, to reduce any limitations in this transfer of information beyond the trade show. Without collaboration and cooperation from dedicated volunteers, staff, outstanding sponsors, exhibitors and our coordinator, Roch Bremont, it would be next to impossible to offer free admission, free pancake breakfasts, a family farm safety program and a farmers’ appreciation banquet and entertainment. While there is a complete list of all show sponsors in the guide, I would like to take a moment to recognize our major sponsors: Platinum: Syngenta Gold: BASF and Richardson Pioneer Silver: Northern Sunrise County and St. Isidore Co-op With changes in agriculture moving so quickly, events such as this trade show become increasingly important to stay on top of the information curve. From exciting topics like fully automated equipment, to developing the health of our soils, we encourage you all to bring the whole family and learn as much as possible. The diversity of knowledge and experience from our exhibitors is sure to leave you with information to enhance your operations for generations to come. Michel Benoit Chairman, SARDA Ag Research

THURSDAY, MARCH 14TH, 2019

8:45 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. (SARDA Ag Research) Wetland Farming in Alberta. Getting Paid For Your Wetlands SPEAKER: Jay White M.Sc, P. BioL, Qaes SESSION DESCRIPTION: Shifts to the Wetland Policy that occurred in late 2018 allow for landowners to now be paid for wetland restoration on private lands. Projects can also occur anywhere in Alberta, so delivery is not constrained to one particular agency’s “sweet spot”, something that has been a hindrance in the past. New Wetland Delivery Agents (formerly known as wetland restoration agencies) can apply to the Government of Alberta and receive contractual agreements for wetland restoration projects. This policy shift will entice landowners, consultants, municipalities and others to become delivery agents, fulfill the goals of the Wetland Policy, and restore highly valued ecosystems that were destroyed. Wetland restoration success has traditionally been low in Alberta due to the expense involved. Landowners can diversify their financial support towards restoration projects by applying to the ALUS program for wetland goods and services funds. We will highlight the new changes to the Alberta Wetland Policy and the role of the Wetland Delivery Agent. We will also discuss goods and services payments under the ALUS program in Northern Sunrise County. 11:00 a.m. – 1:45 p.m. (Farm Business Network) 5 Million Acres of Insights Into Your Farm SPEAKER: Brady Adriaansen SESSION DESCRIPTION: Farm Business Network is a precision data management.
