Church Life

Ministry is about life in Christ which affects everything we do. Sardis Youth Basketball Needs You!

Did you know that nearly every Saturday in December, January and February, our church hosts youth basketball games? It’s fun for the kids and helps fund other activities at the church—and none of it would happen without volunteers. Please consider volunteering as a Sardis Basketball Ambassador!

It’s easy!



Welcome guests as they come in and answer any questions.



Monitor the Gathering Place to make sure it stays neat and welcoming.



As games are wrapping up, direct players and fans from the next game to keep the court area free.

Basically, just be the face of Sardis as others enter our church. If you’ve been looking for a simple way to support the church, this is it! Two‐hour shifts from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. are open for volunteers: www.signupgenius.com/go/409094da4aa29a75‐gymduty.

Please reach out to Chris Neal with questions at chris.neal@colliers.com or 704.287.3872. The Sports & Recreation Ministry would be grateful for your help!

Stewardship

Jeanne Hammons

“The most important aspect of tithing and stewardship is not the raising of money for the church, but the development of devoted Christians”

‐Fred M. Wood

The theme for this year’s Stewardship campaign has been Equipping Sardis for God’s Mission. Our purpose is to develop and equip disciples of Jesus Christ who will impact the world in every aspect of their lives to the glory of God by

Praising God, our Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer; Learning about God’s will for our lives through Holy Scripture; Loving one another unconditionally; Serving our neighbors near and far; Sharing from the material and spiritual gifts with which we have been blessed to provide hope for a world in

need of it.

Just like your home budget, it is important to know how much money is coming in to be able to plan for expenditures. If you have not yet pledged, it is not too late!

We are truly thankful that, as of mid December when I am writing this, 310 church members have generously pledge $1,472,157.00 toward this purpose so that we can, as was so beautifully said in the lighting of candles at the Christmas tea: “say a holy yes to love and partner with God in building a kingdom of love in this church, community and this world.”

Lay Ministry

American Red Cross Blood Drive

Please join us in saving a life at the American Red Cross blood drive on Sunday, January 20, 2019 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the education hall.

Even if you are not able or interested in donating blood, we still need your support for this EXTREMELY important service opportunity. Please consider donating two hours of your morning to help welcome and register our donors from Sardis and our neighborhood.

If you would like to assist by donating blood or donating hours, please contact Sheri Bartel at sbartel@windstream.net. Thank you for your interest!

Angel Tree Was a Success!

Thank you Sardis for making 2018 another successful year with our Angel Tree. In spite of the obstacles, we were able to get all the presents ready for both pick up at the school and for delivery to the home. This year that meant gifts for 183 angels from 80 different families. The bad weather that cancelled church on our busiest gift collection day didn’t stop you from getting your gifts in, so we were able stay on schedule. On behalf of the wonderful angels at Rama Road Elementary School, the Planting Seeds of Hope Committee appreciates your support and generosity.

Chair Volleyball with Plantation Estates

The Middle School Youth Ministry hosted members of Plantation Estates on Sunday, November 11 and engaged in a wonderful competition of Chair Volleyball.

The members of Plantation Estates taught our students how to play and then engaged in several rounds of competitive volleyball. Both the members of Plantation Estates and the middle school students cannot wait for a rematch!

Watch your email for a sign‐up genius on other ways you can help.

Why do we do what we do in worship?. During the month of January, we will hold worship orientation classes for our kindergarten and first grade students. They will gather for worship in the sanctuary at our 11:00 a.m. service and be dismissed to the Upper Room prior to the sermon. We will be learning about how and why we worship while we are worshipping. Students can be
