Middle School Great Escape 2014 will be June 15-20 Early registration starts in December. There will be a parent meeting on December 15th at 6:00pm. This is a wonderful adventure the middle schoolers will not want to miss! Carolina Alba has attended The Great Escape the past two years as a sixth and seventh grader. She said “I have loved both years at The Great Escape, which has helped me on my faith journey.” During the sports tournaments “we got first in girl’s basketball, second in co-ed soccer, second in guy’s chees, and first in girl’s 5k...go Sardis! You name it and The Great Escape has got it.” During The Great Escape “the pastor sends all of us out to find a quite place to sit with God, and just chat. Later on during family time, I always heard how amazed people were from really feeling His presence all around them. I felt that way too, and it is the best feeling in the world to know that God is always there.”
CROSS Mission Weekend
The Sardis middle schoolers took Charlotte by storm the weekend of October 18-20. They participated in CROSS Mission Weekend, an urban outreach ministry based in Charlotte. The weekend was full of worship, reflection, service, and fellowship. Sardis middle schoolers grew closer to each other and Christ through service activities around Charlotte. One group was able to visit the Men’s Shelter where they made lemonade and cookies to share, along with playing hours of UNO with the men in the shelter. Another group went to Moore Place, permanent housing for the chronically homeless. Here our middle schoolers spent time with the people in Moore Place and played a three hour Monopoly game with the residents. They also visited a Charlotte resident in need. They painted her house and helped clean her yard of leaves and other debris. This was a weekend this group will remember and think back on for years.
High School High Schoolers Jordan Banks, Tyler Koch, Chase Hunter and Cole Weber and advisors Doug Banks and Dean and Mike Bowen joined Anita and Jack Kirby to to serve lunch at the Urban Ministry Soup Kitchen, "I enjoyed working with the homeless at the soup kitchen far more than they enjoyed my salad." Cole Weber
High school youth fellowship spent the afternoon with Sardis member, Sarah Gardner, for a Rake and Run service project. The youth raked and pruned her yard and enjoyed the wit and good humor of Mrs. Gardner!
Gender Dinners
Caroline Banks said the Gender Dinners gave her an opportunity "to make better friends with the girls." Jordan Banks added, “the camaraderie gained from playing cards with the guys was great!"
