The tenant will experience a stair tunnel and then welcomed by the backyard before they go into the house. Meanwhile for the store guest can access the second floor by the stair inside of building. In the third floor there’s a small dry innercourtyard floored by little stones and a potted trees to give the tenant comfort in the middle of dense area like ABC street. The tree itself has enough height to appear from fourth floor’s void. To guarantee the tree can be live, there’s a skylight right above the void to distribute enough light supply for the tree.

TENGAH TOWN “Planting The Seed for The Future Township / Urban Planning UD AECOM Singapore Internship / 2015 Mentor : Seetha Raghupathy Tengah, Singapore, Singapore

Tengah is an undeveloped area in north of Jurong and west of Bukit Batok Singapore. It is a former military restricted area and it is planned by HDB (Housing Development Board) to be a new housing development. This 670 hectares development area is planned to be a new green concept of township which includes more than 40K units of residential, commercials, healthcare, institutions, etc.

SITE CONTEXT

LOCATION The Tengah site is located in the west quadrant of Singapore, north of the Jurong Lake District. Bounded by the PIE on the south-west edge, the KJE on the north-west edge and MRT to the southeast, Tengah is in a prime location to be connected to the rest of Singapore. Maybank Kim Eng was quoted in the Singapore Business Review in September 2013 saying “With convenient connectivity, Tengah’s ~50,000 households will significantly enhance Jurong Lake District’s catchment area”, so the development of Tengah is also anticipated to not only create a community within itself, but also improve the surrounding communities.

As Tengah is currently covered in dense vegetation, the intention is to maintain this lush setting to reinforce the regional green corridor from the Western Catchment (Tengeh, Poyan and Murai Reservoirs) to the Central Catchment areas (including Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, Upper and Lower Peirce Reservoirs).

CONNECTIVITY

This green concept ties in with the surrounding nature destinations such as the Singapore Zoological Gardens, Jurong Bird Park and the Chinese and Japanese Gardens.
