top 5 colour & design trends coming your way One of the most exciting things about the world of interior design is that it's constantly changing. Every time I go to industry events or trade shows, I am always so excited to see the new ideas, new colours and new interpretations on everything from paint colours to bench tops to furniture and lighting. One of the biggest trends I'm most happy about at the moment is the return of colour! It's thrilling to see sofas in forest greens and mustards instead of bloody grey all the time (says she with a grey couch LOL!). Colour is life - why are we all so afraid of it (says she with pink and grey striped curtains with chartreuse satin lining!). SARTORIALÂ | PAGE 03

So here, I'd like to share with you 5 colour and design trends I've seen coming into my world and hopefully soon into your homes! I'd love to hear what your reactions to these are. Let me know your favourites!! Let the (colour) games begin!!

1: Desert colours Dessert colours started coming into homewares and furnishings at the trade shows in 2017 and are absolutely everywhere at the moment. What began as a pink terracotta in linens and bedding has now seeped in to wall colours and furnishings. These 'dirty' pinks and soft 'earthy' reds look exquisite with natural oak and warm gold metallics and using a range of these tones in the one space ensure a rich and warm effect. With Pantone's colour of the year 2019 being Coral, I'm sure we'll be seeing this colour in its many variants for some time to come. SARTORIAL | PAGE 04

What I have noticed lately is a few other colours coming in to work with these dessert colours; namely olive greens and mustard yellows. I personally think these are all the colours of our native flora - and you see that reflected in the reemergence of waratahs, wattle and eucalypt foliage in styling shots everywhere - and I'm really enjoying that at the moment.

2: Mix of materials You'll see this more and more in the coming months! Using two different stone colours next to each other in kitchen benches and bathrooms. Pink toned marble next to warm white quartz-like materials. They work together beautifully and the outcome is visually rich.

3: arches & curves Don't go squaring off the arches in your hallways just yet because they're now totally cool again! Doorways and cabinets are getting the arch treatment and legs on all sorts of tables are going round. It's a softening to all the sharp corners we've been seeing for the last few years. You'll see more and more curves on sofas and chairs too. And in prints for textiles and wallpapers, these arches and other geometrics inspired from the Deco years - are welcomed back!

4: Beautiful bedheads Seriously, everything's up for grabs on this front. Whether they're OTT bedheads -- inspired by designers such as it Kemp's Firmdale Hotels or understated, they're bringing focus and thoughtfulness into this space. Different shapes, gorgeous fabrics, natural materials and detailing such as double piping or studs. Pair it with lots of cushions and throws to ensure it looks and feels generous and so luxe and bam, you have a completely unique space that reflects your likes and lifestyle! I say bring it on. What do you think?

5: luxe & glam this look is super sophisticated and makes me think of a glamorous New York apapertment. The look can be a bit of an eclectice mix of styles (a little bit mid century, a little bit contemporary, a touch of regency). Lots of beautiful finishes like marble, velvet and golds. Touches of blacks, framed photography, sculptural artworks, amazing pendant lights. Colours inclue navy, pinks, grey tones, gold textiles.

6: modern tribal this look is a little more rustic. Natural timbers, white washed, white linens, shells, baskets with palms, a bit of a ship wrecked look. It's an informal and relaxed look - you want to kick of you heels and curl up in a deep cushy sofa. Very little colour - apart from white, white and white - used here.

7: Hamptons

bonus look: mid century mix!

This look is still super strong. It's a bit coastal and very timeless. Lots of greys, blues and crisp whites. Stripes and soft patterns and lots of plains. Silver, chrome and pewter.

Another look that continues in popularity. It's being re-imagined with walnut toned timber and simple lines.

Grey veined marbles. Classic shaped fixtures especially tapware. Linens and canvas and sisals. Actually "something's gotta give" has got to be one of my fave movies - just for the gorgeous Hamptons home featured throughout the film. It's the epitome example of this style (in my humble opinion!)

It's quite architectural in execution and a 'less is more' approach works best with this look. Think Mad Men and Bewitched and you're on the right path!!

A bit about us I'm Monique Sartor and I started Sartorial Interiors at the beginning of 2009 on a bit of a wing and a prayer! I'd found myself made redundant from a corporate job while on maternity leave (during the GFC no less!) and my husband - bless his cotton socks - said it was a sign to start the business I'd always dreamed of: creating beautiful homes for people. A decade later, I can't believe how lucky I've been to come across incredible clients and work on fun, challenging projects! My main goal to to create homes that reflect the personalities and lifestyles of homeowners who are passionate about their castle but need a helping hand in achieving these dreams. I'd love to hear how I can help you transform your home! Don't be shy in reaching out.....it could be the first step in a truly exciting adventure!
