joy takes my air

we yell and shout as, “we dance to songs and barely know the words”

I’ve surrendered to the floor as I lay on her pale, blue carpet in defeat, my arms lay limp | Caro rolls over next to me,

happiness has gotten the best of me, I’m smiling.

music echoes through my headache— “sing as loud as you can and no one will hear” the

words revolve around my mind

we go on “singing” until our lungs are stiff with laughter.

so long … as I … have need … to breathe, I’ll keep my smile.
