ARCH 130 - Architectural Design I (4 credits) An introduction to the basic concepts of design, including spatial relationships, 2-D and 3-D visualization, form, composition and function. Explore how the art of architecture defines the relationship of people to the built and natural environment. Focus on learning conceptual skills to express creativity and analyze current and proposed examples of architectural design. Learn how to express ideas by various methods including drawing, free-hand and computer assisted drawing, models and presentation of work product and ideas.

Skyscraper project- My design was influenced by the Coca-Cola glass bottle. It consists of the headquarters of Coca-Cola business offices also has condos, conference rooms, and other spaces that could be rented out. It is meant for an allpurpose building, with the luxury of underground parking and a big plaza out in front where concerts and other events could be held.

Connection project- This was a group project where each student had a 24” by 24” space to create any landscape. It was a project that tested our ability on working together. We had to plan on where everyone’s pieces would go, how the projects would be connected, and decide on which landscape everyone was doing. It was decided that a road would connect all of the projects when put together. My piece was the end of the road and went into a parking lot to the beach. I decided on the beach because it is a place that interests me the most. I used real sand, artificial water, balsa wood and rocks to create the bridge, Tiki hut, a waterfall and cave to create this beautiful scene.

ARCH 140 - Architectural Design II (4 credits) An advanced course in architectural design furthering the study of conceptual principles of design expression related to the built environment. Building design is studied by the utilization of form and function and the interface with the surrounding site and the impact on the environment. Study material selections, code requirements and building systems to formulate an integrated design approach for projects. Expand on design, sketching, modeling, drawing and presentation skills. Prerequisite - ARCH 130

Sophomore year

Tree House project-In this project students had to pick a tree that was incorporated in their sustainable house design. I choose a palm tree because it is my favorite kind of tree. My setting of my tree house was in the Canary Islands. The reason for my triangle shape building was to mimic the north arrow on a map, which ironically had a view of the beach. The roof was made of fallen dead palms, and it used no electricity what so ever, it has clear glass walls on all 3 sides with curtains to shade the inside when necessary and a partially glass walk on deck to see down below.

Final Arch 140 Project- This project consisted of the students to come up with a house plan for a real site that the instructor picked. We could choose to design for an imaginary client or for ourselves. We had to come up with the house plan, a few different 3-D preliminary models and site plan, floor plans, elevations, and a final model and a presentation board. The house I designed was for me, it was a concrete structure, which I chose for sustainability reasons. My house also had a rain garden that used the rain for my indoor green house at the entrance inside in the house. Two floors with a full basement, and had a big vertical fish tank that was the centerpiece of the house. It also has a studio space to work as the professional and work space and then the private sector for the personal space for me.

CADD 120 - 3D Computer Aided Design/Drafting I (3 credits) Hands-on dimensional class covering wire frame, surface modeling, and solid modeling technologies. The class is specifically designed for the AutoCAD software package and ideally suited for students completing the CADD 101 and CADD 110 courses who want to continue graphics and technical illustrations. Students learn 3-dimensional drafting techniques by constructing a variety of mechanical and architectural components. Texture mapping, rendering, lighting, shadows, dynamic viewing, and automated portfolios are covered. Prerequisite - CADD 101, CADD 110, and EGR 101

Office Project- We had to create a 3-D office space for any company In Auto CADD. I chose to do an office proposal for a soccer association because soccer is something that is a big part of my life and I wanted to express it in my work. Freshman Year

ARCH 110 - Architectural Technical Drafting I (4 credits) A comprehensive study of architectural technical drawing embodying the following areas: sketching, lettering, measurements and dimensioning, geometric principles, multi view projections, isometric and perspective drawing and an introduction to CADD (Computer Aided Design & Drafting). The course will introduce the fundamentals of drafting floor and roof plans, site plans, elevations and sections. An introduction to residential framing and construction methods is presented to develop an understanding of the correlation between design, drawing and construction. Prerequisite - MATH 095 or equivalent.

House Project- In this project each student had to create a house plan. Elevations, floor plans, electrical plans, roof plans. We could either hand draft or use Auto CADD, I choose to draft it on Auto CADD.

Freshman Year

ARCH 100 - Intro to Architecture Profession (2 credits) The course is intended to provide the student a broad insight into selecting architecture as a career. We will study what architecture is, how architecture fits into our daily lives, and the different career alternatives a student can pursue in this field.

Door Project-We had to make a door out of any material. I cut mine out of wood and used plexi glass for the windows and metal hinges to make the doors movable.

Freshman Year

ART 107 - Graphic Design I (3 credits)

Comprehensive study of graphic images as communicative devices. Beginning production, computer and graphic design tools, and techniques introduced. Studio and lecture.

We had Several Different Projects in this Graphic Design Class. We used Adobe Illustrator, Photo shop, and In Design to create our own Magazine and Movie posters. I named my Magazine Futbol and Action. A magazine intended for Soccer Fans with everything related to Soccer. I made a movie poster for a Suspense Movie (made up) called Trapt and a Soccer/Action movie Called Into the Game.

In this Project We had to come up with our own Business and create our own Logo for our own Company. I used Adobe Illustrator, Photo Shop, and In Design to create and design my Logo and Name of my Company, which is Golcia (my last name Garcia and the word Golspelled in Spanish- put together. We had to make a Pantone, gray scale, color, and Web 2.0 versions of our logo. I also made 3 different business cards and a letterhead and envelope for my Company/Organization Golcia. I made a flyer and Stamp card for the purpose to be handed out to the Community. I truly fell in love with what I have created because I honestly want to make Golcia a reality. It is to help Spread, Rebuild, and revive the joys of soccer all in the mix of Helping the Community and people around the world. Going along with my architecture major, I want to Design and build a Soccer stadium and many more things. Having the both things that I absolutely love come together is a blessing to me.

ARCH 299 - Selected Topics in Architecture (3 credits) A course for students with advanced standing to pursue an extensive architectural project. A full-time faculty member and the student will determine the nature of the project. Emphasis will be based on advancing skills and exploring concepts that will keep students up to date with the latest technologies as well as contribute to their professional advancement. (May be repeated three times for credit.)Prerequisite Consent of the program coordinator.

In this Project for this class each student was given the same city cite plan and had a specific building that was chosen to be designed. A residential house, church, school, Commercial Building, an apartment, a bank, and a plaza. During the course we learned how to use Google sketch Up and Revit 2010. I chose to design an elementary school, we had to design the interior and exterior of the building.
