Q&A WITH:

Jenna May is an 11 year old technically trained competitive dancer and lover of fitness. In Jenna’s Corner, we will talk about health and fitness from the view of an active tween.

. What are some things you suggest to get kids to be active? Hi. Thank you, this is exciting!! Well I would suggest that they find a fun activity. Let them pick a sport that they like. The more they like the activity, the more likely they will continue with it. Do you think that kids enjoy working out alone or with friends? I would say, get the family involved. I started going to the gym with my mom and brother. It was fun and a great way for us to spend time together. I think its more fun when there's other people around. Do you have a workout schedule? Well, when I started going to the gym, it would be on the weekends or the days I did not have dance class. Do you use workout equipment, if so what type of equipment do you use?. I do use equipment sometimes, nothing too big or heavy. I like to use the balls, jump ropes, and small weights. Do you think all kids will enjoy exercising and working out? Well, no. Because of homework or other activities. You have to want to do it, no TV, no computer or cellphones. Just make time to do it and make it fun!! Well before you go, please tell us some of the exercises you think other kids would enjoy. Push-ups . Sit-ups. Jump rope. Step-ups . Jumping jacks. Squats. Balance on one leg. Ball toss (with a partner)

e a a n Thank you Jenna for sharing with us, we are happy to have you as a Sassy Girl Magazine Brand Ambassador.

TWEENS & TECHNOLOGY

e d i u G l a t n e r a P A

Technology is life for the kids these days and as parents we want our children to not feel left out but we have to regulate the use as it can become an invasion of their privacy. It can be used as a tool for a form of bullying or it can simply be a distraction. It is where Instagram is, SnapChat, Tik Tok and Games are to name a few. Not to mention, you can ask Siri or Google anything nowadays and find the answer versus your child taking the time to research independently. Of course, we want them to be tech say and have the latest but as parents we have to be sure to set boundaries. You would be surprised if you knew how many kids are socially awkward as they are so mesmerized by the cellphone and its endless possibilities that its hard for them to carry a conversation or make new friends as it requires them to be active with other people.

As a proud parent of three wonderful children, who we often refer to as “Millennials, I decided to set a few boundaries that i felt would assist me in my daily parenting. Here are a few: - Cell Phones off at least one hour before bedtime - No cellphone during meals at the table - Homework and chores first - No cellphones during family time - Parents should monitor the phones - If you’re paying the bill, know the password - Teach your children never to give out personal information and never respond to stranger inquiries Researchers say that excessive screen time can be linked to violence, behavior issues, social issues and education issues, so setting boundaries is a way to allow us to parent while our children exercise a small form of their childhood independence. We have to get creative as well. As parents we are busy with work or supervising the home and oh yes.. staring at our cellphones too! We have to be the example and encourage our children to be active while coming up with creative ways to stimulate their minds

Every Good Model, Dancer or Child Visionary should have a great headshot! Here are some quick tips to consider when looking for the best way to showcase your star!

- Select a professional photographer who works with kids - Most agencies prefer your child to submit a natural headshot which represents how they look everyday (without makeup) - When applying Make Up, consider the age of the child and keep it light - Hair should be pulled away from the face (be sure to show length where applicable) - No bright colors logos - Make sure the photographer captures their personality

@SASSYGIRL_NY

I would like to thank everyone who participated in the making of my magazine. I hope people will read and support my vision, even though I'm not on TV or have a million followers. Not to long ago, I decided, I can be more than just the talent. I could be the person to give other kids opportunities, I could be a Girl BOSS. People often say I'm quiet but that's because I am a thinker and my plan is to build a brand and pay it forward as my mom would say.

To Mom & Dad: I am so lucky to have you as parents. Thank you for believing and investing in me, showing me how important it is to have a voice. To Mr. Mario: Thank you for helping me realize one of my biggest dreams. This magazine is everything I could have imagined and more. To Mr. Jeff and the other photographers, thank you for capturing me and the Sassy Squad in these beautiful photos. Stay tune everyone, I'm just getting started!!
