Palliative care is an approach that aims for better quality of life of patients and their families that are facing life-threatening illness. It is a multidisciplinary work that involves individual professionals who are mostly working independently, but they are communicating and collaborating with the other disciplines in the team.
This thesis aimed to provide information for physiotherapy students concerning the role of physiotherapist in multidisciplinary team in palliative care focusing on advanced cancer. Objective of this thesis was to make self-study material based on the evidence found from the literature into virtual learning platform called Moodle.
Thesis was implemented as an operational thesis which consists of both theory and practice. Thesis started with searching background theory about palliative care, followed by literature search about the multidisciplinary team especially from physiotherapist perspective. Four symptoms were mentioned multiple times in the literature, and for that reason those were chosen for the study material.
Study material was done in a learning platform Moodle and the content was made with H5P, which is a free and open-source content collaboration framework based on JavaScript. Study material was piloted with second-year physiotherapy students and small adjustments were done to the material based on the given feedback.
Further studies concerning effective physiotherapy methods in palliative care is needed for better patient care.
