WELCOME TO SATAKUNTA The Satakunta region is located on the west coast of Finland. The total population of the region is about 240,000 people. The largest cities of the region are Pori and Rauma.

The Satakunta region is one of the oldest inhabited areas in Finland; the earliest residents arrived in the Stone Age. In addition to the sea and lakes, the landscape of the Satakunta region is characterised by the Kokemäki river, which is the fifth longest river in Finland and flows into the Gulf of Bothnia. The region offers many nature experiences and excellent opportunities for sports.
Satakunta University of Applied Sciences and Diaconia University of Applied Sciences have diverse education fields. The University Consortium of Pori (UCPori) is a consortium of universities. The Pori Jazz festival and a couple of rock festivals gather tens of thousands of music lovers in Pori every summer. Rauma is most famous for its UNESCO world heritage site, Old Rauma. Another world heritage site is the Bronze Age Burial Site of Sammallahdenmäki in Lappi TL. In Rauma there are numerous cultural events, such as Rauma Lace Week, Rauma Blues and Blue Sea Film Festival. An important part of regional culture is ice hockey. When the teams of Pori and Rauma meet, the atmosphere in the stadium is indescribable! In comparative terms, Satakunta is the most industrialised region in the country. Particularly the base metal, machine construction, wood processing, leather and food production industries are significant.

CHOOSE YOUR OWN STUDY PACE HOW TO STUDY
STANDARD FLOW, FAST TRACK OR SLOW MOTION
BME is taught in English. Studying is strongly based on working life. RDI projects and assignments characterise the learning process. The study process culminates in the Master’s Thesis that involves an extensive development assignment in your/a work community.
You can adjust the studying pace according to your own need. There are three options: Standard flow, Fast track and Slow motion.
The Degree programme is also well-suited for students coming from abroad. E-Learning is used over 90 % of the time. There is one contact week per semester at the Faculty of Business and Culture Rauma. Lectures between the contact days are conducted via conference calls, videoconferencing or other media. Cooperation with partner universities and visiting lecturers from all around the world add to the international focus of the studies.
Standard flow The programme is carried out over a period of approximately 2.5 years. It is possible to work at the same time. Fast track Not working during studying allows you to proceed faster, and complete compulsory studies in one year. The Master’s Thesis can be finalised in one year or during the first semester of the second year. Slow motion If you prefer studying more slowly due to work duties or personal reasons, slow motion allows you to design the course of studies accordingly. Work on the Master’s Thesis starts normally in the third semester, and becomes more intensive towards the end of the studies.
