Syrian President Bashar al-Assad says his country is in “a state of war” .The Syrian President underlined that we live a state of real war, and when we live a state of war, all our polices, directives and all sectors will be directed in order to gain victory in this war. President Bashar al-Assad on Tuesday presided over the first session of the new cabinet after the new government members sworn in before him. “We live in a real state of war from all angles,” President Assad told members of the cabinet who were sworn in on Tuesday. “When we are in a war, all policies and all sides and all sectors need to be directed at winning this war.” ‘We want good relations’ He criticised countries that have been
calling for him to stand down, saying that the West “takes and never gives and this has been proven at every

He added: “We want good relations with all countries but we must know where our interests lie.” Kofi Annan, the international envoy to Syria, is trying to organise a peace conference for Saturday which would include the Security Council and regional countries, notably Iran. Sergei Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, indicated that he would attend and stated Iran’s participation was crucial to the success of a meeting, but Britain and America publicly oppose Tehran’s involvement.
