Throughout the history of our nation, the log cabin played an important role as a safe and durable home that an ordinary man could build. Today Satterwhite Log Homes transforms dead-standing timber into thousands of modern log homes for families just like yours. We incorporate the timeless beauty and strength of solid wood into every home we build … a link from our past to our future.
From Our Satterwhite Log Homes … It’s a Family Affair When my wife, Travonda, and I founded our log home company in 1974, modern log home construction was in its infancy, and yes, we were just kids ourselves. Thousands of log homes later, our company has matured into one of the leading log home manufacturers and builders in the United States—success we attribute, in part, to our business philosophy and our products.
You’re in Good Company You see, Satterwhite Log Homes isn’t some nameless, faceless corporation. We’re an independent, family-owned business involved in every facet of the log home industry from forest to job site—our crews harvest the dead standing timber, manufacture house logs, market the homes, and construct the shells—ensuring quality control second to none. In short, Satterwhite management and employees are a team—committed to our company and our customers. 2
And while customer loyalty is said to be a thing of the past, Satterwhite Log Homes boasts an extended family of homeowners, who willingly open their doors to friends, neighbors, and folks like you, who are interested in learning about log home living. Our customers’ recommendations and their word-of-mouth advertising are critical to our past and future success.
Y’all Come to Our Home There’s no place like home. It’s where we put down roots, raise our family, and entertain our friends. And just like individuals, every log home we build is unique, as evidenced by the photos of homes throughout this brochure. To get a taste of Satterwhite Log Home living and our own brand of Southern hospitality, visit our showhome and office
Family To Yours in Ellijay, Georgia. Or visit our headquarters in Longivew, Texas or our manufacturing plant/sales office in Gunnison, Utah. In any case, you’ll find Satterwhite representatives are knowledgeable, friendly, and decidedly “no pressure.” Thanks for your interest in Satterwhite Log Homes … and welcome to the family.
“Our commitment to our profession means we work harder and longer to make sure you get the new home you want. We don’t cut corners—whether it’s in the forest, the mill, or the walls of your home. Of course, it isn’t all work. We still find time for life’s little pleasures … celebrating the Fourth at the company picnic, or simply sharing a cup of coffee and a laugh with friends.

From Dead Standing to Outstanding High and Dry Satterwhite cuts logs primarily from dead-standing Engelmann spruce found at mostly inaccessible 10,000 foot elevations in the Rocky Mountains. Spruce beetles epidemics kill most of the timber, although occasional forest fires contribute to their death. (In either case, the wood’s structural integrity is intact.) As the trees die, they slowly and naturally dry or season in the arid climate— a process that takes years. The wood shrinks and checks— a normal phenomenon in the drying process. It becomes stable, energy efficient, and is ready to be
milled into house logs. (Satterwhite logs low moisture content of 15% or below makes them a stable building material. However, checks and some log movement are natural reactions no one can guarantee against.) With all due respect to Mother Nature, harvesting spruce is no picnic. To reach the logging site, Satterwhite Log Homes must often build roads. Loggers carefully fell the dead trees, taking maximum care to leave the young, green understory undisturbed. Logging is a difficult job and 4
requires heavy equipment such as bulldozers, skidders, loaders, large trucks, and even an occasional helicopter, to haul the logs from the forest to the mill. Massive snowfalls, which come early and stay late, narrow the window of time loggers have to harvest an entire year’s worth of timber.
From Raw Timber to Finished House Logs After harvesting, the logs are transported to our manufacturing plant in Gunnison, Utah. They are stacked in huge log decks
and bucked to length before proceeding to the sawmill. Highly skilled sawyers cut the logs into cants, which are then moisture tested. The cants are milled or planed into a variety of log profiles or stacked to finish drying. Finally, each log is inspected by a certified grader using the guidelines of Timber Products Inspection, a third-party grading agency recognized by the Log Homes Council. The “dry” on our grade stamp indicates an average moisture content of 15% or less.

Conserving Natural Resources Forests are a renewable natural resource yielding needed wood products for generations to come. They are also a national treasure, an important part of our children’s legacy, and a haven for wildlife. Satterwhite Log Homes works hand-in-hand with the U.S. Forest Service as it oversees all our activities in the national forests. We share its concern for soil erosion, compaction, and the waste of resources that can occur without proper logging practices. In cases where directed by the U.S. Forest Service, logging roads are completely obliterated. Other roads we build or improve allow vacationers, campers, fishermen, and hunters access to our national forests.

Satterwhite Log Homes is equally proud of our utilization efforts at our Gunnison, Utah manufacturing plant. Every part of the harvested tree is used. By-products, such as cut-offs and slabs, are sold to the local community for low cost firewood and economical fencing materials. Sawdust and shavings become livestock and poultry bedding and gardening mulch. Other byproducts recycle into composting programs that produce new soil from organic waste. The remainder controls erosion and serves as ground cover for playgrounds and plant nurseries.

We can also custom mill to 10” thicknesses and 12" heights. Our best-selling D-shaped log retains a rounded appearance on the outside. Inside your home, a flat interior face provides decorating versatility. Log cabin connoisseurs appreciate the massive look of the double round log with rounded interior and exterior surfaces. Or you may opt for our traditional Swedish Cope log. It features a coped bottom and an old-fashioned saddle notch corner system. The single tongue-and-groove insures a tight fit and easy construction. 5

For a more natural appearance, Satterwhite’s Rustic log offers a natural unmilled outer face and a double tongue-and-groove. A word of warning: Use this type of log only with wraparound porches. The unmilled ledges can hold water. The Smokey Mountain log features an exterior chinking recess with a flat sawn texture for those who desire that hand-hewn appearance, but still wish the decorating versatility of flush interior walls. If you prefer a more rugged appearance, Smokey Mountain Logs can be adze hewn. Our other profiles can also be hewn or drawknifed for the texture you desire. Interior logs are popular finishing items that add warmth and beauty throughout a home’s interior or in select areas. The log is milled with two flat faces.

Corner Detail
Building a log home is usually easier and faster than constructing a conventional home, but it is different. Satterwhite Log Homes offers a constructed shell option in most southern states. A constructed shell built by a Satterwhite crew offers you both the convenience and the security of using professional crews, who have experience erecting a log shell from the foundation up.
If you’re beyond our constructed shell range or if you’re a confirmed do-it-yourselfer, our comprehensive Material Package is right for you! Satterwhite is also proud to work with your local contractor. Our back-to-basics construction techniques make this a popular option for many of our hands-on customers. The Material Package also gives the cost-conscious the advantage of Satterwhite quality at a great price. What’s more, with our vast inventory of building supplies, Satterwhite Log Homes can ship your material package quickly.

Satterwhite Log Homes’ simple tongue-and-groove building system makes building a log home a snap. Logs are stacked atop one another with two beads of polyurethane caulk between each course. Then they are reinforced with screws every three feet.
Build Right … Build Satterwhite Getting Started Site preparation is the first step in the construction process. This usually consists of clearing out trees and brush, building an access road for trucks and heavy equipment, running electricity to the site, drilling wells, digging septic tanks—you get the picture. Depending on your site and location , Satterwhite crews or your subcontractor will pour a concrete slab or another foundation type. In certain areas of the country, Satterwhite construction crews will erect the log shell. Or you may purchase our material package and doit-yourself or hire your own contractor. Depending upon your building location, we can recommend a number of experienced contractors. Because our crews are based near our Longview, Texas headquarters, travel expenses render constructed shells cost-prohibitive in some parts of the country. However, our building system is simple, gimmick-free, and easily mastered by your local contractor.

Erecting the Exterior Log Walls Satterwhite delivers logs, of random lengths from six to sixteen feet, directly to the job site. The logs are not precut for several reasons: On-site cutting lets the builder make precise, tight-fitting joints—so total customization is possible. And random length logs save you money. When building on slab, the bottom course (or layer) of logs is fastened to the foundation with 14" anchor bolts with a sill seal and polyurethane caulk for a strong sturdy base. The walls are built by stacking Satterwhite’s tongue-and-groove logs on top of one another. Two beads of polyurethane caulking are applied to each course of logs—one between the outside of the log and the outside of the tongue, and the other between the the two tongues. Caulk is also used
Most Satterwhite log homes are built with a butt-and-pass corner system. Wiring is hidden between log courses, while plumbing is installed in interior partition studs. Typically, interior partition framing and roofing are done conventionally.
at butt joints. Then, every three or four feet, the logs are secured with log screws with spike reinforcements. We offer three types of corner construction depending on your house log choice. There is a butt and pass, a dovetail, and a saddle notch. Corners are formed when one log ends at the point where it meets the intersecting second log that extends past the corner. Western red cedar is commonly used for exterior trim, gable ends and porches. As you can see, building the Satterwhite way is almost as easy as, well, falling off a log.
Framing the Interior Interior partition walls are framed conventionally—unless you specify interior log partitions. You can drywall interior walls and ceilings, as with conventional homes. Or you may prefer Satterwhite Log Homes’ interior log and wood paneling. (See pages 56-59 for more information on interior finishing materials.)
Raising the Roof Most of the homes we build are topped by an economical and simple-to-erect engineered roof truss system. One or more of several types of trusses may be used depending on the design of the house. Common trusses are used for flat ceilings. Attic trusses permit rooms or storage to be built right into the truss. Scissor trusses create vaulted ceilings and allow space for central heat and air, wiring, insulation, and ventilation. Remember: All truss systems are easily insulated. Of course, you can also use a rafter system—even beam or log rafters. A log home roof is similar to that of a conventional home: It’s composed of decking, tar paper, and architectural composition shingles. Although not provided by Satterwhite Log Homes, metal roofs are popular alternatives. They’re attractive, durable, and available in a variety of colors.
Installing the Windows and Doors It’s a snap when you use naturally stable Engelmann spruce. Satterwhite crews nail the window and door frame stiffeners directly into the log—no floating systems or other compensating mechanisms are necessary. 9
Porches provide protection for the logs and offer great spaces for outdoor living. We suggest 24” roof overhangs and periodic treatment of the log surfaces to insure a beautiful home for years to come.
A Few F.A.Q.s “How are the electrical and plumbing installed?” Most electrical wiring is run behind the interior window and door trim. Holes are drilled from these openings to electrical outlets and switches and from tops of windows and doors through upper logs to the attic. Wire is pulled through, leaving enough of a tail for an electrician to run to the nearest junction box. Want an outlet in the middle of a log wall? The wiring can be hidden between logs as the walls are being raised. As with a conventional home, plumbing is installed in interior stud partitions.
“What about maintenance?” It is necessary to invest time and money to preserve your log home’s natural beauty and longevity. However, there are several design considerations that provide the maximum protection for your investment. • Porches provide protection from the elements, while adding extra outdoor living space. 10
(Frequently Asked Questions) • Minimum two foot roof overhangs shelter the logs from moisture and the sun. For a lifetime of beautiful log home living, we recommend more. • Site your home within existing trees for shade and protection from damaging ultraviolet rays. Periodically sealing the wood’s surfaces is also a requisite for a beautiful, well-maintained home. An exterior coating system provides protection from the sun’s damaging ultraviolet rays. It also minimizes the natural shrinking and swelling that occurs with long exposure to moisture. We recommend a “brushed on” wood finishing product to stain and seal the logs and other exterior wood surfaces. Recoating every two to three years may be necessary on walls that receive full exposure to sun and rain. Logs that are protected by trees, overhangs, and porches may need less frequent maintenance.
An energy efficient Satterwhite home will keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. SWEPCO (Southwestern Electrical Power Company) awarded a Satterwhite log home its Good Sense Energy Award, certifying its built-in thermal features. That saves you money on utility bills — and it helps the environment too!
“ Is a log home really energy efficient?” Dry logs conserve energy and are an excellent insulating material, according to independent test findings from the National Bureau of Standards. The reason: The thermal mass of solid log walls stores heat in the winter and remains cooler in the summer, as compared with conventionally built homes. Now, about that often misunderstood catchword: R-factor. This measurement of a substance’s resistance to temperature change is derived under conjectural laboratory conditions. Because it fails to take into consideration changes in humidity or air movement, the R-factor inaccurately rates the insulating value of logs. So, even though the R-factor of wood is 1.25 per inch (when using 51/2" diameter house logs), you can expect to have walls equivalent to R-19 or better.
“What’s the bottom line?” The expense of building a log home will be about the same as that of a comparably-sized, conventionally-built, custom home.
“What about financing?” Financing a log home is available at competitive rates. Your local bank is the best source. Log home loans are sold on the secondary market to FNMA (Federal National Mortgage Association), insurance companies, etc.—just like conventional home loans. The mortgage industry realizes log homes are here to stay, so financing is easy.
“ Is it difficult to obtain insurance?” Most insurance companies will insure a log home for the same rate as its framed counterpart—and for good reason. Tests have proven a solid log wall is less of a fire risk than a frame house. Here’s why: A frame house has an air space between studs that acts as a flue, rapidly feeding and spreading fires. The solid mass of wood in a log wall is difficult to ignite, and the fire spreads slowly.

More Frequently Where is your wood found, and what species is it? Our house logs originate in the higher altitudes of the Rocky Mountains. Most of our logging is in National Forests. The U.S. Forest Service monitors our logging practices. Harvesting dead timber clears the way for replanting. Our manufacturing plant is in Gunnison, Utah. Engelmann spruce is our primary source of wood. The logging site may also yield an occasional Lodgepole pine.
What is the moisture content of your logs? Satterwhite logs are moisture tested at several stages during our manufacturing process. Our grading agency requires 19% or less. We found that the logs perform better at 16% or less; our deadstanding timber is usually in the 12%-15% range.
H ow much settling or shrinking should I expect in the walls? Wood is a naturally porous material that shrinks and swells. Using dead-standing timber keeps such movement to a minimum, so that settling allowances are unnecessary.
What about bugs and termites? Termites are rarely a problem, though it is a common concern. As with a conventional home, pretreat the foundation and 12
have periodic inspections. And keep the bottom courses of logs free of moisture and soil.
Are the logs precut in your material package? No, we do not precut. Random length logs permit the customer more flexibility in log placement and design. Cutting on-site is as fast and easy as trying to locate the correctly numbered log in a precut package. It also saves you money by eliminating additional handling charges.
Are your logs treated with chemicals? No! We believe your home should provide a safe, chemicalfree environment for you and your family.
here do you build constructed W shells? Contact your sales representative for a list of states that we offer constructed shells. Beyond these states, we may be able to help you find a local builder experienced with Satterwhite logs.
Asked Questions What is included in your shell construction? Shell construction includes the materials and labor for the concrete slab, roughed-in plumbing, exterior log walls, interior partition framing, roof system, decking, tar paper, shingles, exterior trim, and exterior doors and windows. The shipping costs are also included. Note: At certain distances, there are roofing and foundation restrictions, due to travel-related expenses. It is far more economical for the homeowner to use local labor to accomplish these tasks.
What type of foundation is better, slab or pier and beam? Can a log home be built on a basement? Log homes can be built on any foundation that other homes are built upon, including basements. Floor plan size, customer preference, and building site (soil and slope), are important factors in determining which foundation is best suited and most economical for each job. The majority of our houses are built on slab foundation.
Where do you ship Material Packages and materials, and how much does it cost? Satterwhite Log Homes ships materials all over the continental U.S. Overseas shipments are delivered to the nearest U.S. port. The customer is responsible for containerizing and shipping beyond this point. Delivery charges are calculated per mile per truck. Because transportation costs fluctuate, please call our Longview headquarters for current rates.
Do you do turnkey construction? No, we only build the exterior shell. A local general contractor is the most efficient and costeffective way of completing your home. Our sales force may be able to refer you to a contractor that is experienced in completing our shells. Many of our customers act as their contractors, and most do some of the work themselves.
How do you insulate the roof? Most of our roof systems use conventional batted and blown insulation. Attic insulation is not
provided by Satterwhite Log Homes. In some cases, a roof ’s construction style requires that rigid foam insulation be incorporated into the roofing system.
Can we purchase just the materials and build the home ourselves? Can our builder do the construction? Yes! Of the approximately 450 homes we sell each year, only one-third of them are actually constructed by Satterwhite crews. Contractors and individuals build the remaining two-thirds. Satterwhite offers a comprehensive “Material Package.” The included Construction Manual and Construction Video outline the erection of the exterior log walls.
Can we use our own plans or can we make changes with your plans? Yes! We are totally custom, and welcome modifications of our standard plans. Our in-house design department is available for a nominal fee to make these changes or design a home to fit your family’s needs and budget.

e are so proud of our Satterwhite log home. They offer people with not so deep pockets a chance to build the home of their dreams.
We have had absolutely no problems with our energy bill. It was almost too good to be true when we realized that our average energy bill each year would be $100.00 a month. With an energy bill like that in a 3000+ square foot home; one has to boast a little. The logs are from dead standing timber and dry much more than kiln or air dried timber allowing for much less shrinking and expanding from the hot and cold weather changes. In fact we have never been able to see a change in the Satterwhite’s logs from season to season. We have owned a log home in the past made of kiln dried logs. The logs would shrink in the winter time to the point the joint spaces allowed the outdoors to peek in. Sure you could patch it with a goo that would absolutely not blend in with the color of the wood like it advertises, but why should you even have to do that? I promise you that the Satterwhite logs will offer a comfort in knowing that there logs will not allow for that much shrinkage if any at all. As very satisfied Satterwhite customers we have to highly recommend you get one. You’ll love it!!! Kenny and Amanda Holland Mineral Bluff, GA

y wife and I researched log homes for eight years. We chose Satterwhite Log Homes and one of the builders they recommended. We have been in our home for almost two years and are continually satisfied with the choice we made. We chose Satterwhite because they were not afraid to tell us the facts and sometimes no. When you are building a dream you must separate wants from can do’s. Satterwhite and our builder worked together and made our dream come true. Thanks. Melvin and Sandra Sullens Marietta, GA 15

fter having lived through the building of two previous homes, we had promised never to do that to ourselves ever again. However, once we toured the Satterwhite Model in Ellijay, Georgia, we knew that we would ...one day. But within six months after viewing the home, we were ready. We did our homework and studied the Company and their product along with their approved local builders. We were amazed at the way the trees are cut and processed. The entire Satterwhite Team, along with our builder, Tim Hall helped us build the home of our dreams. Today, we live in our beautiful home and must confess that it was a joy working with Satterwhite Log Homes and Tim Hall. We feel we not only have a great house, we have great new friends! e would like to thank Satterwhite for your fine product and your helpful people. We purchased our Satterwhite log home from your Ellijay Georgia office and can not be happier with the experience. This is our first log home and Ron Lomonaco has been our friend and guide. We met Ron and the General Manager, Don Estes at a log home show and were impressed at how much they liked their product. We looked at a bunch of local (North Georgia) and national companies and in our opinion Satterwhite offered the most complete package. The “dead-standing” logs have such a character and look, they make our cabin feel warm.
Our contractor, Alex was recommended to us by Satterwhite and again we couldn't be happier. We are doing a long distance build and when Alex says he will take care of it… you know he will. I was up for the first week of the dry-in and Alex and his crew, made me, the home owner feel welcome on the job site. All through the building of the cabin our friends couldn't get over the quality of the logs and the quality of the builder. Needless to say, we are HAPPY . Thanks again Satterwhite, Ron, Don, and the rest, Lisa and Jeff. Geoff and Susan Groot Orlando, FL & Ellijay, GA
The following floor plans are stock plans, but we encourage you to feel free to modify any of these plans to make it your dream home. We also welcome your own custom designs. We hope you enjoy seeing what our customers have done with their homes on the following pages.

y husband and I would recommend Satterwhite Log Homes to anyone. In fact the first time we ever heard the word Satterwhite was from a coworker of mine who built their Satterwhite log home before Satterwhite even made it to Georgia. It was by happy coincidence that by the time we were given the referral to Satterwhite they had found their way to Ellijay, Georgia. What good timing! As I mentioned before these log homes deliver in so many different ways. We love our Satterwhite Log Home!!!

Why a Satterwhite “We moved [into our log home] in May, 1992, and still consider it our dream home. After two-and-a-half years, we wouldn’t change a thing! Everyone who sees it shares our feelings. We’ll always be grateful to the Satterwhite family for making our dream a reality.” Beverly Walker Leonardtown, Maryland
“Our log home is beautiful. The inside will take a while to finish since we are doing it ourselves, but it’s everything we hoped for.” Dawn and Charles Lang Houston, Texas
“We keep on telling people about Satterwhite Log Homes because we can’t help it. We continue to be so satisfied and thankful for our snug, comfortable, and economical home— our last electric bill was $26.31.” Carol Webster Eros, Louisiana
“Each homeowner we visited had nothing but praise for the [Satterwhite] staff and construction crews. “Now that we have started our new home, I know what these people were talking about. The crews are hard working, knowledgeable, and do a great job. They never seem to mind answering any questions we have. We are so excited that we are finally getting what we’ve wanted for the past twenty years.” Thomas and Pixie Green Marshall, Texas
56
“Our home has been complete for three years, and we are pleased with every aspect of living in a log home. We have referred our friends to you and look forward to doing business with you again when we add the garage to our house.” James and Rose Adams Pomona, California
“We did a lot of research into log homes and looked at scores of plans. Your floor plan, The Heritage, was perfect for our site. The logs are indigenous to our area. The whole thing works.” Paul and Joyce Hackbert Molina, Colorado
“Just thought you’d like to know that we have finally moved into our finished log home. It’s been a real experience building a home. Satterwhite was the easiest part of it all. We are so glad we went with Satterwhite. Thank you for making our home construction so easy and beautiful.” Hal and Linda Clark Lakeview, Arkansas
“What a pleasant surprise you Satterwhite folks have been. No matter who I spoke with, they made me feel as if I was the most important customer Satterwhite Log Homes
Log Home? Just Ask the Person Who Owns One. had. Not only has the service been great, but the quality of your materials and construction is as good or better than any I have ever seen.” Wayne Woods Houston, Texas
“…you have helped us create a dream home, which was in the planning for eight years. A big part of this dream coming to a reality was to build our log home on a cash basis with limited funds. “You assisted us in figuring and refiguring many times to stay within our budget. All of this required a tremendous amount of patience and expertise on your part.” Buddy Fortenberry Alvin, Texas
“We built our Satterwhite log home before we were married and moved in right after our wedding in June. Our home seems small to many people, but it’s just right for the two of us. We love it! Thanks to Satterwhite Log Homes—it was nice doing business with ‘real people.’ ” Damon and Carla Lasyone Winnfield, Louisiana
“It has been a pleasure working with all your people and extremely refresh-
ing working with a company that really does have quality and customers in mind. We are looking forward to the many wonderful years ahead living and raising a family in our dream home.”
the cathedral ceiling, and we dropped the interior kitchen wall to cabinet level so we would have the illusion of wide open space.”
Tamara and Larry Merkel Austin, Texas
“Our Satterwhite home is one of the most energy efficient homes we have ever owned. Our 1,900 square foot home is all-electric with heat supplied by a pellet stove. Most energy bills are under $100.
“I’m just wanting to express my satisfaction with the construction of my log home from Satterwhite. We finished our home in 1993, after having Satterwhite Log Homes construct the shell for us. This was the BEST decision that I have ever made. “Mr. Tim Whitfield and his crew performed an outstanding job on our custom designed home. Mr. Monty Stanley and the other representatives of Satterwhite Log Homes were by far the best group of business professionals to work with that there is. My only regret is not building my log home ten years sooner.” Gary Brooks Crowder, Oklahoma
“You built us a Caddo with Loft a few years back, and we have been enjoying it more than we could ever imagine. “…We decided to install the aspen on
Kenton and K. Harris Friendswood, Texas
“We also appreciate how sound proof our home is, as we live just 220 yards from a road with lots of noisy trucks.” Walter and Else Hammerschick Lone Star, Texas
“We love our log home. We moved in after 15 months and did a lot of the work of building it ourselves. We wouldn’t change a thing. “It’s wonderful!” Frieda Peel Chatham, Louisiana
“After two years we still love our log home. All we hear from our friends is how pretty it is. If we had it to do over, we would make it bigger!” A.B. Sisson Jr. Bastrop, Louisiana 57
See and Hear for Yourself Satterwhite Log Homes is proud to have a referral network of over 300 Satterwhite homeowners. These folks willingly show their homes to customers and answer your questions. What better way to research log homes and our company. To find out if there’s a member of the Satterwhite Referral Network in your area, please call our Ellijay office at 1-800-918-6881 or our Longview headquarters at 1-800-777-7288.
Let Satterwhite Log Homes guide you step-by-step to your one-of-a-kind log home. Establish a budget, then draw your floor plan. We’ll give you a free estimate, advice, and our own special brand of friendly service.
How to Begin . . . The Purchase Process “O.K.,” you say, “I’m sold on Satterwhite. So now what?” Good question. Purchasing a log home can be a confusing experience. But not if you take it step-by-step. Follow the sequence as shown below for purchasing a Constructed Shell or a Material Package.
Constructed Shell and Material Package Purchase 1. Set a realistic budget and prioritize your wants and needs. This important first step will guide you in designing your home and expediting the purchasing process. 2. Draw your preliminary plan or revise a Satterwhite standard plan. The drawing must be to scale for the estimate to be accurate. (1/4” = 1’ is common.) Indicate foundation and roofing specifications on the floor plan. Will you be using stock or custom windows and doors? (The more
information you supply now, the more accurate your bid.) 3. Submit your preliminary plan to Satterwhite Log Homes for a free cost estimate. Don’t forget to include the scale you used (1/4” = 1’ is common). And let us know who you are and how to reach you. (Yup, you’d be amazed at how many folks forget this.) Satterwhite will supply you with a preliminary cost estimate. And we may suggest design modifications or cost-saving features. 4. When the plan is completed, we’ll finalize the blueprints. Now you are supplied with a contract outlining the specifications and materials and/or labor supplied by Satterwhite Log Homes, as well as the final price. 5. Contract is signed. 6. Secure financing with your lending institution. 7. Prepare your site, i.e., build roads, install electricity, dig water wells and septic system.
58
Important Note It may be necessary for a customer-drawn plan to be redrawn to insure an accurate bid and workable set of floor plans. There is a small charge for this service.
Payment Method Upon signing a contract for a Constructed Shell, a deposit is required. Thereafter, the homeowners makes payments at structured intervals throughout the construction process. A deposit is also required upon signing a contract for a material package. The balance is due upon receipt.

y husband, Steve, and I would like to share with you our experiences with your Satterwhite team. We never imagined that building a log home 3 states away would be such an easy, pleasurable experience. We would recommend Satterwhite to anyone thinking of building a log home. Throughout this process we've worked very closely with Ron Lomonaco as well as Don and Lisa in your Ellijay office. We were very impressed when our log delivery took place ahead of schedule and when your delivery driver contacted us prior to off loading their trucks and wanted to assure us that they would be careful with our new road and wanted us to understand that we may have a small patch of damaged grass. This is a such a small detail but it really gave us confidence in your team. We did go up and spend 1 day with Mike and his crew and they were the nicest group of guys I could have ever imagined. Their craftsmanship was exceptional and I can't wait to see our finished, dried in, home on December 17th when we take our next trip to Tennessee. Satterwhite Log Homes is a first class company with a first class team. Thank you so much for helping us build our dream home. Warmest Regards! Tara, Steve, Baylee and Chase Kennedy Pompano Beach, FL

fter more than a year of researching other companies and almost weekly visits with the Satterwhite staff in Ellijay, we began construction of our new home. Don and Lisa answered every question, assisted with the changes we made to make it our own, and were there for us with whatever we needed. We have been in our home for almost two years, its better than we ever imagined. We would recommend Satterwhite to anyone looking for a quality log home. Bo and Sharon Bankson Murphy, NC
