Jupiter in Cancer - A “Yellow Submarine”

Lalitha Devi Once in a while an astrological event draws so much attention that all other notions of celestial activities pale in comparison. And this is exactly the case now as Jupiter, the most auspicious of all planets said to be able to erase one million sins in a person’s horoscope, is returning to Cancer on June 18, 2014 EDT/ June 19, 2014 IST. The transit of this planet of hope and wisdom is having all astrologers and lovers of jyotish (or Vedic astrology) abuzz. And for a good reason. In fact, after 12 years Jupiter is returning to an area of the zodiac that signifies its exaltation, its strength and its auspiciousness. And we are going to feel it. Not only feel, but also witness an expansion of our minds, the acquisition of more inspired learning and an increase in optimism. Cancer is a water sign of the Moon. People known as Cancerians (with Cancer as ascendant or Moon sign) are famous for their nurturing qualities. In addition, their exquisite sensitivity allows them to connect emotionally with their loved ones. Because the Moon is a celestial body that signifies the Mother-the sign it rules, Cancer, grants watery and deep emotions to all planets positioned in that sector of the zodiac. Now imagine Jupiter, teacher of great ideals and mystical imagination as he lands in the Moon’s sign. At this point, water will magnify even more the expansive qualities of Guru (Sanskrit for ‘Teacher’), the planet that represents ether (or space) and the transcendence of ordinary consciousness.

Jupiter in Cancer - A “Yellow Submarine”

Your higher principles and divine aspirations will spread unlike anything that you have experienced until now. An expansion of collective consciousness will follow. As a matter of fact, Jupiter was in Cancer 12 years ago, but this time in history—the beginning of the Golden Age-is definitely unique. And, a strong and ‘awake’ Jupiter will bring to the masses pure knowledge and teachings that will feel good—for a change—and will make us feel cared for by the Divine. However, in our current era we have glorified negativity, as Dr. Pillai teaches. Suspicion and even cynicism have dawned for humanity since the inception of the rational era, during which the so-called Cartesian school of thought, named after the 17-century French philosopher Descartes, brought the concept that thinking itself was inessence like doubting. So, doubt, criticism and skepticism were fostered in our educational systems. The Rationalism that followed is still at work in many sectors of our society. So, these philosophies have brought a common reverence for doubt and an excessive reliance on our intellects. As a result, a sky devoid of deities and marvel has become our reality. We modern humans have also created a fitting language for our doubts and criticism. For example, the so-called Pollyanna archetype that embodies an imaginary, overly optimistic girl has become synonymous with silly and unrealistic. Additionally, we have created a saying that someone 'Is too good to be true' and we imply that no one can ever be truly as good as to hold many positive attributes while still living on Earth. Then, we often assume that a person who ‘looks too good’ is simply being untruthful. So, here comes the wise and idealistic Jupiter, bringer of good fortune, wealth and righteousness. He vibrates at the frequency of the color yellow and in the watery sign of Cancer brings to mind a famous Beatles song, Yellow Submarine. “So we sailed up to the Sun till we found the sea of green. And we lived beneath the waves in our yellow submarine”, goes the song.

03

SATVIDHYA

Jupiter in Cancer - A “Yellow Submarine”

Regardless of the actual meaning that the Beatles intended for the above lyrics, we will certainly become more united and reach a higher state of consciousness during Jupiter’s transit in Cancer. This yellow planet will usher great hope for humanity regardless of previous dogmas, cultural backgrounds and beliefs. And since Cancer means also caring for our loved ones, we may feel a deeper connection to our brothers, sisters and teachers. Also, when we will think big, we are better able to implement Dr. Pillai's suggestion for success-that we must think outrageous thoughts through miracle thinking. And once the seed of a miracle thought has been planted, more people will experience miraculous events in our lives. As Dr. Pillai teaches, the mind is the barrier that stops miracles. But Jupiter expands our thinking beyond logic, beyond analysis, beyond the known. And at that point, the observer is able to create anything. In fact, Jupiter is also the ruler of Pisces, a sign capable of great imagination. Imagining a miracle is often the prerequisite for its manifestation.

Love is enough: though the world be a-waning, And the woods have no voice but the voice of complaining, Though the skies be too dark for dim eyes to discover The gold-cups and daisies fair blooming thereunder, Though the hills be held shadows, and the sea a dark wonder, And this day draw a veil over all deeds passed over, Yet their hands shall not tremble, their feet shall not falter: The void shall not weary, the fear shall not alter These lips and these eyes of the loved and the lover. - Willaim Morris

Win in Life with the Divine General Who Never Lost

Win in Life with the Divine General Who Never Lost

P Venkatesh Deep within everyone, a never-ending tussle seems to be going on between the forces of the good and the evil. On one hand, our refined nature pushes us up, and on the other hand, our own animalistic nature pulls us down in this vicious tug-of-war. Consider the life force residing at the bottom of the spine to be the ‘troop’ that needs to be marshaled to its destination, which is the third eye. On the path are six battlehouses, which are the six energy centers or chakras. The troop needs to wage a fierce battle of survival at each of the battlehouses. In any battle, the General or the Commander is often the key to victory. Every soldier follows his instructions without fear or hesitation. He receives the highest respect and attention from the forces. This implicit compliance comes from their trust in the Commander’s ability to see the big picture. Muruga is that all-seeing Divine General or Commander at the third eye guiding the ‘troop’ or the life force. No wonder, in the human body, the third eye is known as Ajna chakra. ‘Ajna’ means command, and the third eye is the Command Center. As per myth, Muruga was born out of the six sparks that flew out of Shiva’s third eye. The number ‘6’ is very special to Muruga - he is depicted with six faces, his mantra ‘Sa Ra Va Na Ba Va’ has six syllables, his famous temples are six, and his energy is available on the 6th waxing phases of the moon. As the son of Shiva and Parvati, Muruga signifies total harmony of the Yin and Yang energies. The symbol of Muruga is the six-pointed hexagram, which combines the upturned triangle denoting Shiva or the masculine aspect, and the downturned triangle denoting Parvati or the feminine aspect. This shape can been found in many cultures and religions across the world.

SATVIDHYA

The birth of Muruga, in fact, points to the evolutionary process itself. The third eye is where the life force known as ‘Kundalini’ finds its highest creative expression. It is where the human awakens to become divine. In the epic battle described in Mahabharata, Krishna declares to Arjuna: “Among Generals, I am Skanda, the Lord of War”. Skanda is the name of Muruga which represents the ultimate warrior consciousness. The same consciousness is associated in Chinese Buddhism with a warrior deity called Skanda Bodhisattva. Ares, the Greek God of War, and Mars, the Roman God of War, also signify the tremendous energy of war. Their temples were known to remain shut during peace time, and opened only when there was a war. "Be a warrior. Life is better for those who are adventurous and warriors. This will bring infinite possibilities", says Dr. Pillai. The symbolism of ‘war’ denotes the powerful removal of 'stuck' energy in the form of deep-seated negative traits, psychic impressions and disempowering habit patterns. Muruga, as per myth, was the supreme Commander of the divine army and single-handedly won over the invincible demons Tarakasura and Surapadman. Likewise, Muruga can lead us in the inner battlefield against fierce vices such as negativity, doubt, pain, suffering, debt, disease, and so on. “The victory is thine. My Vel is the symbol of victory. Look on the Vel and remember victory”, says Skanda, in writings channeled by the spiritual teacher Hilda Charlton. The Vel not only denotes the awakened Kundalini, but represents the sacred weapon of love and courage that pierces through our darkness and ignorance. “To me, Muruga is the photon light from the Pleiades constellation that is going to start the Golden Age", shares Dr. Pillai. On his Birthday, Muruga can empower us to create the Golden Age by conquering the lower nature of our being, so that we can rise and embrace our own birthright as shining beings of light.

To Dad on His Day

To Dad on His Day

Ramesh Siva Women need to fight a lot to reach an esteemed position in the society/career compared to men due to the existing male dominant thoughts in the society for many centuries. In fact, many women would grumble that their skills and talents are not being recognized as men, nor they have the access or forum to exhibit their prowess like men. Acquiring accolades and appreciation in business, career and media is an uphill task for women. But, when it comes to the family, it is the role reversal. The word or Mantra ‘Mother’ had always gained more reputation than the word ‘Father’. On any given day, Motherliness would easily overpower Fatherliness. Mothers often get their due credit for their affection, care and household responsibilities. But the love, affection and dedication of many fathers would go unnoticed. Generally, men do not show their emotions. They tend to display their strictness and would always be vigil with their children for their good upbringing. Since, most of the fathers are the sole bread winners of their family or shoulder a major part of the family’s financial burden, they somehow fail to play the role of an affectionate and lovable father. Father is generally viewed as a respectable person, decision maker and prominent earning member of the family. Hardly anyone in the family realizes that fathers are dying to earn the love and affection of their children. In many families, Mother acts as a channel of communication for children to their father to communicate their needs, thoughts and wants. Even in Hindu Puranas, Goddesses Parvati would speak on behalf of her children Lord Ganesha and Lord Murugan to Lord Shiva, whenever they want 08

SATVIDHYA

To Dad on His Day

to communicate any important aspect with their father. But, children should understand that many fathers had sacrificed their lives for their family. They might not be as poignant as a mother. They would not be available for your school annual day functions owing to their job demand. They might not be aware of your friend’s name, their nick names and the jokes you shared with your buddies. But, they would secretly beam in joy and pride with even their child’s smallest achievements and talents. Convincing a depressed mind, lending shoulders to a dejected heart, exhibiting friendliness, showering love and affections are certain delicate areas of specializations, where most of the men fail miserably leave alone fathers. Even though, their heart weeps for your failure, minds yearning for your care and lips pray for your success, their stubbornness would stop them from displaying their emotions. Girl children would generally cherish their closeness and fondness with their father. Boys too would realize the days when they hold their father’s fingers for a walk, the days they made their father running behind their bicycle when they were learning to ride it. Children would realize in their evening of their lives that how their father sacrificed his life for them, how their father would narrate a story for endless hours to make them sleep during childhood, how long their father stood before their schools/ colleges to get an admission for them. It would be nostalgic and painful if we had realized that we haven’t shown the affection and empathy for our father when it mattered. On 15th of June, the whole world would rejoice father’s day and people would cherish memories of their affectionate father. We can write a letter to our Dad on his day explicating our beautiful and heart-touching memories with him. Trust me; it would bring tears from his eyes. He could have been an assertive, firm and stubborn person. But, he is not made up of iron and steel. He is very concerned, affectionate, and responsible for your well-being like your mother. He just wants to play a second fiddle to your mother in your upbringing. But, his love and affection for you are no way second. For every child, their father is their hero and inspiration. Let us acknowledge and salute our beloved hero.

The Golden Touch

Mylapore Kapaleeswarar Temple Gopuram When we normally visit a temple, we go straight to the sanctum sanctorum, worship the God and the Goddess and perhaps go around the Navagrahas. Along with the decorated deity, we see the idols normally taken on procession on important occasions. We do not notice the kavachams (decorated coverings), the kireetam (crown), tiruvachchi (the ornamental arch in the back) or the pendants hanging in the Lord’s bosom. These items are, however, needed for decorating the Lord, which lakhs of devotees come and worship. You move out of the sanctum sanctorum and slowly come out of the praakaaram and again stand before the dwaja sthambam or the flag hoisting pillar. Devotees do not prostrate before the sanctum sanctorum but do so in front of the dwaja sthambam. You just see the pallakku or palanquin and quickly come out. All these add to the beauty of the Lord and His consort in particular, but to the beauty of the temple in general. We do not pay much attention to these decorative pieces. Thejus is specialized in making gold covering of many of these temple items and their technology is the latest. The gold covering of the flag pillar of Swamimalai Temple has been done by Thejus. Their technology is the latest. This is their 200th order. They started making small pieces of coverings, karnapathram, kireetam, paadam, naagaabharanam, padma peetam, etc., for the temple deities. Rajinikanth, the superstar of Tamil films, came to know of their special talent, got his Puja room done by them! 10

SATVIDHYA

The Golden Touch

Chandrasekhar, the proud owner of Thejus tells us that the first order they got was for making kavacham (body-covering), hastham (forearms) and paadham (holy feet) from the Ulagalanda Perumal temple in Tirukoilur. The Malai Mandir of Subramaniya Swami in New Delhi, Saibaba temple near Mahabalipuram, Iyyappan temple in Mahalingapuram, Kapali temple in Mylapore, Adikesava Perumal temple in Mylapore, Gangadeeswarar temple in Purasawalkam, Lakshmiramana temple in Mysore Palace, Iyyappan temple in Goregaon, Mumbai, Ponkunnathu Bhagavati temple in Kottyam, Kerala, Muppathamman temple in Thygarayanagar, are some of the temples, where Thejus has offered its unique services. There are many smaller temples in many interior villages in Tamilnadu that have got the work done by Thejus. Jackson City Murugan temple in the U.S. has also been one of their divine clients. “The method of gold painting adopted by Thejus is unique”, says Chandrasekhar. First, they remove the dents if any. Then, they wash the surface with kerosene oil. Trichloroethylene is used to remove all dirt. Then buffing and polishing of the surface is done. This is followed by electroless nickel plating. The area which does not require gold plating is masked. The gold plating is taken up to the required thickness. Then they rinse and clean, followed by electro lacquering. After the process of drying and baking, the items are kept for cooling.

“Based on the quantity of gold deposited, the electrolytic bath is given suitable replenishment, so that the bath concentration will always be maintained above certain limits”, explains Mr. Chandrasekhar. “At the end of baking, we will have a very uniform coating of polyurethene all around the gold coating and this will seal the plated area from being attacked by the atmosphere!”, he adds. We learn that the old system of using mercury has been abandoned. “Because of the use of mercury the process is environmentally unfriendly as mercury is a poison that takes a very very long time to go away from the atmosphere. Mercury process results in the release of a lot of mercury vapour in the atmosphere, which is very dangerous for the man who is operating this process, as well as, for the environment. The plating process handled in our factory is having proper effluent treatment system approved by the Pollution Control Board”. According to Mr. Chandrasekhar, due to the excellent quality of the gold coating through Electro Deposition Process, the life of the coating is more than 4–5 times with the same thickness of gold applied through mercury gold rake process. They expect a wear out life of around 15–20 years for the coating, subject to normal handling. With 1.5 microns thickness, we can expect a life of 10–12 years. Here, even the wooden items can be gold plated!

Salvation and Astrological Impact

D Kumar For attaining Salvation, we will have to travel through the below:• Path of knowledge (Gnana Marg) • Path of action (Karma Marg) • Path of devotion (Bhakthi Marg) and • Path of yoga (Raja Yoga Marg) Searching for absolute truth, focusing on egoless action, building a relationship with God by spending time on prayers and service and observing meditation to attain selfless state are the ways through which we can travel in the above said four paths. But the ego state – i.e., what our mind and body represent in the physical form, secondly what we possess - our material strength in this life and thirdly what we hold – the power and position do not allow us to make journey in the above four paths. Blessings of Lord Shiva is required for getting this mental state which will ultimately help us for destruction of illusion and realize our true self – i.e., attaining of Atma Gnana, for achieving freedom and liberation from birth.

Mythology Thirugnana Sambandanar one of the most prominent of 63 Nayanmars prayed to Lord Shiva to protect him from the problems of marital life. He didn’t like to get married. But he had

to marry, Mangai Nallal daughter of Nambiandar Nambi of Nallur due to family compulsions. The wedding took place at Achalpuram. Tiruneelanakka Nayanar conducted the rituals. Circumambulating the wedding fire pit with his bride, Gnanasambadar prayed to Lord Shiva to protect him from the problems of a married life and praised Him. Thirugnana Sambandar’s interest was to become one with Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva appeared in the form of Jyothi and advised the saint to join Him along with all gathered there. It is believed that people worshipping in this temple will become free of all adverse effects falling on them. Everyone worshipping Lord who embraced Saint Sambandar through the Shiva Jyoti is sure to be awarded total salvation. Lord Brahma secured the creation boon from the Lord here, while Vishnu was granted the power of destroying the wicked and demons. Holy Ganga Devi performed penance at the entrance of the place. Moon was relieved of his curse here.

Astrology Salvation is saving of soul from the sin and its consequences. One must have blessings in the chart for saving the soul from the sin. Otherwise birth and re-birth will become inevitable. To have this blessing, one must have: • Kethu in the 12th house from the Moon sign • Jupiter must have been placed in the 12th house for performing noble deeds and attain salvation • 12th house must receive aspect from natural benefic planets • The Sun must not have been afflicted • The Moon must not have been afflicted

Sleep - Fuel for Mind and Body

Dr. Kavitha Bharat Even a single day without sleep would make us irritated, weary and lethargic; but a day with good sleep in the night would make us fresh and energetic. What is sleep and why it happens? Sleep is the state of the body and mind, where the sense organs are exhausted and detached of their respective sense objects. This happens mainly due to the fatigue of the body and mind. During sleep, blood flow to the brain is lesser and limits the body activities to induce sleep, but after getting up from good sleep, blood flow to the brain is higher and enables the person to be active.

Why is sleep important for everyone? Since we spend more than half of our lifetime in sleep, it is necessary to know the merits and demerits of sleep. If not properly enjoyed, it will lead to psychological and physiological disturbances such as indigestion, irritation and weight loss. So, happiness, unhappiness, nourishment, malnourishment, strength, weakness and intelligence and stupidity - all these factors depend on properly or improperly enjoyed sleep. Timely and adequately enjoyed sleep keeps the body healthy and makes the mind sharp and smart. Sleep is of different kinds, based on the reason that induces an individual to sleep. Daily routine activities make the person tired and allow him to fall asleep. Continuous mental effort creates exertion to the brain and leads to sleep. Diseases affecting the body create weariness of internal organs and it generates sleep.

What disturbs sound sleep? Excessive mental tension, reluctant mind to sleep, active mind (engaged in some deep thoughts),

14

SATVIDHYA

Sleep - Fuel for Mind and Body

eating dry foods containing flours for dinner, uncomfortable bed and pillows, unsuitable time, starvation and some somatic diseases are few factors that affect good sleep.

What happens if sleep is disturbed? Irregular and untimely sleep causes pain all over the body, creates heaviness of head, sluggishness, laziness, indigestion, feeling sleepy all the time and frequent yawning. If sleep is disturbed for long days, it may lead to troubles like vertigo, headache, anemia, swelling, rashes, boils, discomfort and irritation. This causes buildup of endotoxins in the body and may lead to diminishing of natural immunity.

What can be done to promote sound sleep? « « « « « « « « «

Intake of milk, cane juice and fruit juices induce sleep. Dishes prepared from jaggery can be taken to promote sleep. Head massage with cooling oils or just rubbing center portion of head with oil gives good sleep. Pressing the feet creates relaxation and induces sleep. Cold water bath and massaging the body also helps to sleep without trouble. Practices like meditation and listening to good music would keep the mind calm, free and unattached. These will invite good sleep. Counting the numbers in reverse manner makes the mind tired and induces sleep. Follow regular timing for sleeping and waking up from bed. Normally 8 hours of sleep is enough for a person to be fresh, but it depends on the work pressure and body condition of the individuals. Eat like a king for dinner because fullness of stomach induces undisturbed sleep. But, don’t go to bed immediately after eating. Leave 30 minutes for other works or walk for 15–20 minutes, then go to bed and enjoy timely sleep.

A parent, a term that commands great respect, is honoured and cannot be replaced. A child’s life is designed or shaped by parents. Mother and Father together contribute towards a child’s character, attitude, behaviour and personality. As a mother plays an important role, father equally plays an important role in a child’s life. Usually, moms take care of the child and ensure that her child gets the best in everything. This is possible only with the support of the father. Generally, father’s take the responsibility of the social security and financial security of a child. Generally, it is said that daughters are more attached towards their father and sons to their mother. It can be a common rule. However, boys do try to follow their father a lot. In many households,

mothers would say, “My son is like his dad. Like his dad he is soft hearted or he is easy going or he spends like his father .....”. As children grow older and when they start understanding life, they start following their parents. Parents are live examples to their children. Here is a beautiful quote to be shared. “My father didn't tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it” - Clarence Budington Kelland. Jesus Christ says, “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you”. When a man becomes father, he gives his children, what he got from his father. Father’s role is also not an easy job. A father has to be a role model, he has to understand his children, their emotions, support them and give them the space. Generally, it is said that mothers always keep advising, lecturing and many times complaining. But, fathers give space to the children and make them understand through their own mistakes. It is said by William Shakespeare says that It is a wise father that knows his own child. There is another saying that all the parents should know or learn.“My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me.” - Jim Valvano. A Father’s position cannot be replaced or substituted. "Life was a lot simpler when what we honored was father and mother rather than all major credit cards" . - Robert Orben.

Awakening the God

Awakening the God Sanchita Chowdhury

“You can pay a visit to the Greatest Doctor who cures all human diseases?”opined my friendly and sober Doctor. Surprised, and unsure of the meaning, I enquired, “Whom are you referring to?” With a broad smile, he said, “The one and only Vaidhya Veera Raghava Perumal residing in Thiruvallur, near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He has special powers to cure people!” I am not very regular at temples, or attached to rituals. So, I could hardly restrain my laughter, “Ah, you are finally asking me to visit a temple for a cure?” I was consulting my doc for an infection – a kind of water warts that had emerged on my skin and their encroachment was pretty fast. He detected that the only cure was to uproot them surgically. So, in due time, I underwent the first session of surgery. But after a month or so, the warts reappeared again. I was again scheduled for the next painful session. Being a kind-hearted man, my doc did his foremost duty: find ways to salvage me from pain and anxiety! Therefore, he suggested an alternative means of cure that has been tried. Cure of disease is essentially an intrinsic process that necessitates strengthening the mind of a patient. So, he was inducing the same in me through faith in the Almighty.

19

SATVIDHYA

Awakening the God

After a month or so, I visited the said Perumal (Vishnu, the Creator God) temple, prayed earnestly and offered Him the customary Salt and Pepper. To my utter surprise, it worked! The warts did not reappear. I visited Him again, a few months later. This time, the visit was for a ‘thanksgiving’, an act of my gratitude for Gods therein. Thereafter, a thought kept hovering – can incidents such as this rekindle sparks of belief or faith in God?! Was it the ‘collective effervescence’ that The philosopher Emile Durkheim had referred? Emile had deduced that the energy flow at a place becomes intense and influential when groups of people practice rituals together with faith. This intensity of energy at a religious congregation can propel individual energies to a higher level even bring about a state of euphoria! Vaidhya Veera Raghava Perumal perhaps excited a moribund spirit within me that was important for the cure. It was perhaps an awakening! A curious concurrence of my excited spirit meeting those energies in Nature that had hurried in to assist me. My prayer being earnest and my desire clear and strong must have sent a forceful message around, with strong implications. (Of course, my message was picked up by the Samaritans, my well-wishers, god-parents and protectors!) It was a summon to all particles in Me and the Nature, to gather at a conference. After all, they had to find a common ground on how they would fulfill my wish! I watched motions of the conference from the galleries. I heard the speaker finally say: “We are all aware of turbulence in our energy mass triggered through a strong desire. We have detected that it has been propagated by this lady on the planet and we have decided to deliver…!” I was thrilled, “Wow, how 20 gracious, isn’t it?”

SATVIDHYA

Awakening the God

Of course, left to the Physicists of Quantum Mechanics, they would have certainly sketched a better and apt scenario. They lead a curious life observing how particles behave and interact when they are excited or stimulated. Definitely, they would know how and where these particles organize their conferences. Or should that creative exercise be left to the Astronomers? Mystics may have a common purpose with the Astronomers to tell us about miraculous events taking place in Nature! They would surely confirm in unison that,‘something that we cannot see is also at work’. Then how do I (or an individual like me, busy in daily chores of family life) deal with such away-from-the-earth imaginations? How do I arouse, awaken or seek the energies of particles that do not even feature in the radar of my mind? Standing in front of the deity at Tiruvallur, I had made a connection with the particular force that Perumal represented. It was an instance when body and mind converged to one single thought. Fear of not getting what you desire, negative feelings about others, confusion in mind, and even a weak health could have disrupted such a convergence. Temples are the formidable fortifications of positive and divine energies spotted by sages and savants. And of course, Emile’s ‘collective effervescence’ keeps the aura vibrant. If you are a believer in the God or higher spiritual powers, you can summon all the Samaritan and benevolent energies. With complete mindfulness when you meditate or perform rituals to the deities you welcome the divinity in you to rise. The God should emerge from within! I could relate to Perumal because I was able to awaken Him within me!

Rani (Marie Otte) Do you ever need help from someone other than a friend, family member or a work/professional? It can be something minor or about making a major decision in your life. Maybe you have a question that only you can understand, but can’t find the answer for it. Ponder what you need. Maybe a God or Goddess can help you. It can be Hindu, Norse, Egyptian, Greek, etc. Connect with one that makes you feel comfortable. You can ask the question in the form of a prayer. Your intuition can give you a helpful response. The Vedic Tradition has many Gods and Goddesses. They have been depicted as statues or in pictures to be somewhat human, animal like and unusual in looks. The Goddess is a female God or deity and the God is the male form of a deity. Gods and Goddesses represent a combination of energies. These beings can have many heads, arms, weapons and tools. They possess more abilities than humans and can be helpful when invoked by mortals. These divine beings can be perceived in a variety of ways. They usually have a gold crown. This is symbolic of the crown chakra connecting with divinity for help. Some carry a club, conch, bow, arrow, sword, discus or garland. The symbology is different for each God and Goddess.

Guidelines to connect with a God or Goddess: 1) Take a shower and put on fresh clothes or wash your face and hands. 2) Find a quiet place. 3) Place a statue or picture of the God or Goddess that you want help from on a table or altar. 4) Light a bee’s wax candle or a ghee lamp and incense to clear the space and bring in positive energy. 22 5) Chant 108 times a mantra that will help you to connect with a certain deity.

6) Ask your question and wait for a response. It does not have to be a complete sentence. It can be just a feeling or sensation. Be sincere about your query. 7) If the answer does not come right away, be open to it as you move on with the rest of your daily activities. The answer may come in a symbol, a conversation or some other form that you can connect with. 8) Offer the light and incense. If you have flowers and fruit, place them on the altar. The God or Goddess will return your offerings with blessings. Below are brief descriptions of a few more Gods or Goddesses and their mantras. Next, some hypothetical questions and answers will be given. They can be used as examples.

Ganesha Ganesha is the main god in the Vedic Tradition. Everyone comes to Ganesha when starting something up. The head of an elephant is the main part of this being. The trunk is able to work effectively to remove obstacles in order to make accomplishments. His vehicle is a mouse. Chant: OM GUM GANAPATAYE NAMAHA Prayer Question: Ganesha, how can I remove the obstacles in order to complete the remodeling that I am personally doing in my home? Possible Response: Visualize someone else doing the work in your home.

Lakshmi Lakshmi is a beautiful Goddess who is adorned in pink and gold. She sits on the lotus flower in an ocean of milk and sprinkles gold coins into a pot. Her powers can help with fortune, money and relationships. Chant: OM LAKSHMIYAI NAMAHA Prayer Question: How can I make more money? Possible Response: Envision a business that you can start on your own.

Saraswati Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge. This divine being holds a lute, book and rosary beads. She aids in the learning of arts, sciences, crafts and skills. Her vehicle is a swan. Chant: OM ANURADHA KRAMANA SARASWATIYEI NAMAHA Prayer Question: How can I learn mantras? Possible Response: Visualize listening to recordings of mantras that you want to learn in your free time.

Muruga Muruga can help with health, enemies, debt and litigation. He wears red and carries a vel (spear) that is used to defeat evil forces. His vehicle is the peacock. Chant: OM SA RA VA NA BHA VA YA Prayer Question: How can I improve my health? Possible Response: Imagine doing yoga poses or martial arts. If you experience a challenge, look for help. Read about the mythologies of these divine beings and select one that is associated with your question. You can go outside of the Hindu Tradition. Look at Norse (Odin: victory), Egyptian (Isis: fertility), or Greek (Zeus: protector) traditions, or any other tradition that you feel inclined to choose. These Gods and Goddesses can help you to answer questions and give you blessings.

Divine Work of the Rishis

Divine Work of the Rishis

Maitreyi and Karthik Rishis are the administrators of God’s creation. They take care of its manifestation and govern it on His behalf. They are involved in all the decision making and governance processes. There is a huge network of Rishis which spans all the planes and dimensions. At different levels, they have different roles and responsibilities.

Categories of Rishis Saptarishis The Saptarishis are a batch of 7 Rishis who are directly in charge of the entire work under God. They have millions of other Rishis and workers to assist them in this work. They report directly to God and take important decisions pertaining to the administration with His consultation. The Saptarishis are not a permanent batch — the Rishis of this batch keep changing over larger cycles of time known as a ‘Manvantara’ in Sanskrit. They are known in different cultures as the Hierarchy, Council of Light, Light Masters, and so on. The present batch of Saptarishis constitutes - Brighu, Atri, Angirasa, Vasishtha, Pulastya, Pulaha and Kratu. On this earth, they are assisted by a batch of 1,44,000 Rishi workers, spread across different cultures and countries.

Maharshis These are Rishis of a particular order who have done intense Tapas (meditation) and have been

serving God for millions of years. They take His advice and execute His work. Depending on the work, they can go to all the manifested worlds and dimensions, and even to the unmanifested part of creation. The Maharshis usually work under the Saptarishis, but some of them choose to work on their own. Usually they work from the astral planes, but sometimes they take birth on the earth plane, depending on the requirement. There are some great Maharshis, such as Vishwamitra, whom even God consults before taking important decisions. These great Masters bring down rare knowledge and energies for the benefit of humanity.

Rishi Workers These are the Masters who are responsible for executing the divine work at the physical level. Usually, they work as a batch on a particular earth. Many of them will be of the order of Maharishis, and they specialize in working at the physical level. The Rishi workers will be trained for thousands of years across many lifetimes for the work. Many will also be working for many cycles. They are trained for working in very adverse and difficult situations. Hence, they are always able to accept the situations they are in and wait patiently, without losing hope, to continue their work. Rishi workers usually experience higher spiritual states at the deeper levels, which they manifest in their work here. All the qualities they manifest for the work like patience, accommodation and inner strength comes from their Love for God and His creation.

Light Workers These are also great spiritual Masters who work for God’s creation. Unlike the Rishi workers, they are not a permanent batch of Rishis on any earth. They go to a particular earth when more help is required, like during a transitory period. Sometimes, they will also have different Masters other than the Rishis to guide them in their work.

Work of the Rishis Much of the work of the Rishis remains hidden, partly because of their humility which prevents them from talking about it. The scriptures that capture some of their works are also incomplete

and have been distorted over time. A few records of the light workers and psychics give us a glimpse of the immense work which these Masters have done silently over the eons, without the expectation of any reward or recognition. * Rishis have gone out of their way to save humanity from many wars and natural calamities. For this, they have spent their personal tapas shakti (spiritual energies) which they have gained over thousands of years of intense meditations. Inspite of their Herculean efforts, we had to go through a few wars and natural disasters because people did not choose to transform. * Rishis have brought down many rare energies and injected them into all humans and other living beings. They use occasions like eclipses and star alignments to release these energies. They also make use of opportunities like peace rallies and candle-light marches to heal people and places. These energies help humans to transform, if they are open to them. * Rishis work hard to reveal various spiritual truths like the details of God’s creation. They have taught meditations and other practices to help people find liberation from the cycle. Though the spiritual truths are present in the scriptures, whenever these Masters take birth, they simplify and explain this knowledge to the people around. Most of the times, they also add new knowledge to that already existing on this plane. This knowledge helps everyone overcome their ignorance and grow.

Rishis’ Work in This Transitory Period Postponing the 3rd World War: Many psychics like Nostradamus had predicted the 3rd World War by the end of the 20th century, and it was supposed to happen as per the destiny of this earth. We have been at the brink of this war several times. But the Rishis, out of their love and concern for humanity, have managed to postpone the war, in order to reduce the pain and destruction. They have released a lot of tapas shakti (spiritual energies), and have prayed for grace to alter this destiny. Until now, the war has been postponed since a good percentage of humanity doesn’t want it. But, if people continue to manifest negativities, the Higher Intelligence may be forced to allow another World War.

Reducing the Duration of Pralaya and the Transitory Period: Our earth was supposed to go through an intense Pralaya (churning period) for 49 years, and a transitory period of 432 years before ascending into the Light Age. Now, with the grace of the Higher Intelligence and the work of the Rishis, the transitory period has been drastically reduced.

27

SATVIDHYA

Divine Work of the Rishis

Another important highlight of this period is that we go through less commotion and also have the maximum opportunities to make faster spiritual progress. What used to take lifetimes of great effort can now be achieved by an individual within a few years. This is because of the help provided by the Rishis at different levels to transform, grow and manifest Light.

Karma Cleansing during Football World Cup: There are various occasions like sporting event finales or mega events like the British Royal Wedding when millions across the Earth connect to the occasion emotionally. The Rishis usually utilize such occasions to spread new energies to all the individuals. One such example of the Rishis work is during the 2010 FIFA World Cup held in South Africa. The theme song of that World Cup was ‘Waka Waka’. The Rishis mapped ‘Wa’ to water and ‘Ka’ to karmas and released a lot of energies at the astral level. Whenever anyone repeated ‘Waka’, a little of their karmas was washed away. The football finals, which coincided with an eclipse, was fully utilized to release a lot of new energies and do a lot of astral work in Africa and reduce the karmas and problems faced by the entire continent. We may never know most of the works or sacrifices of these great Masters, who have moved the wheels of civilization and helped humanity at all levels-material and spiritual. Understanding the immensity of their work helps us to develop love towards them and also cultivate humility. These are the qualities which help us establish contact with these Masters, so that we find guidance for our spiritual growth. Anyone can grow and become a Rishi on their spiritual journey. Manifesting all the spiritual basics and living a righteous life is the first step. Then, as we transcend the desire for our individual growth and decide to help and serve others on their journey, the Universe gradually helps us to attain Rishihood. From My Heart

Shiv Shankar My media career had taken a full circle when I joined a spiritual and astrological organization. Till then, for around 15 years, I have been involved in media industry in different levels as producer, director, even an actor. Working as a Director/Producer with a spiritual company for the past 3 years has added lot of meaning and dimension to my media career. When I worked with other media companies and film industry earlier, as a director my job was to just understand and analyze the content and theme to be shot and how to convert it to a better quality output. The content could be related with either a family drama, science fair, quiz program or celebrity interview etc. I would concentrate mostly on studio setup, lighting, enhancement of concept and bringing out the best from the artists or presents. I never got involved with their content or theme. But spirituality as a theme for video recording was entirely a different experience and phenomenon. Slowly, my mind consciously or unconsciously drifted towards the subject. I have not gained any knowledge when I directed science fairs or any other technical/commercial venture shootings. But, spirituality is an emotion; hence, it evokes interest towards the subject. I mentally prepare a lot for Spiritual lecture, Homa videos or Astrologer’s presentation. My inner thought strongly feels that the messages communicated in our spiritual lectures would play a vital role in refinement of human mind and upliftment of mankind in the years to come. So, it is a Golden opportunity for me to get blessed upfront, when the whole world is waiting in queue to obtain the blessings. What else do I need? Hence, I gradually pick up the Mantras being chanted and the methodologies 29

suggested for Karma removal. Bruce Lee had quoted, “As you think, so shall you become”. It holds true in my case. Since my mind is always preoccupied with lectures and techniques articulated, my mind had gradually drifted towards learning and understanding spiritual techniques. Once Dr. Pillai asked if I would be available for a shoot the next day. I apologized for my inability to come on that day as I had a priority work in a bank. Dr. Pillai with his trademark smile enquired, “So you are a rich person. You seem to be visiting banks often!”. I replied, “Baba! I wish to become one”. Then, he explained how a human mind would automatically change with constant and focused lobbying of the same thought. This would even enter our sub-conscious mind. Thereafter, we would completely dedicate us to the notion. He explained with an example that how one of the Cameramen had become rich by continuously shooting for a Wealth mantra recording. By hearing the mantra repeatedly, he got involved with the mantra unconsciously. The results paid off in few few days. da Having seen many such miracles and wonders happening in many human lives through the in teachings of Dr. Pillai, I am not all surprised. I always believe that if you are wholeheartedly involved with your work, your efforts are bound to produce spectacular results and would obtain utmost satisfaction. I am able to connect with spirituality well because of this aspect. Spiritual techniques and lectures provide relief for lot of people. Hearing spiritual lectures and mantras make people forget their worries. When they cannot perform well in their career, they seek spiritual techniques as a remedy. Fortunately for me, it is a part of my job. I can take pride that I too have played a small part in media production and enhancement activities of most sought spiritual lectures and mantras.

Security and Insecurity: How to Have Peace of Mind Dr. Baskaran Pillai, Founder, AstroVed Security and insecurity is a topic, which was inspired by someone who just spoke to me. He was feeling very insecure and prayed to me. He claimed that I led him to a book. This book happens to be the book written by Osho, Rajneesh. He turned some pages in the book and found his writing on insecurity. Osho was questioning in that book as to why you are worried about security all the time? Security is a dead concept. Once you are secured, there is no adventure in life. Everything is taken care of and you just don’t face any embarrassing moment. It is interesting in a way to look at security as something very unattractive. It is something you don’t want, because there is no spirit of adventure. May be the term security makes sense. Once you are secured, then Osho goes on to talk about insecurity. Insecurity is desirable because it keeps you in movement. It makes you alive. When you are alive and alert, you have a challenge. When you accept the challenge you embrace insecurity. You do not want to change the insecurity situation that you are in. On the other hand, you decide to face it. It is a great advice. Everyone goes through this situation in life as they are insecure at one time or the other and then they go after security. It doesn’t happen. Then, the issue of security comes back. So, the whole drama teaches what you have to do. Go deep into the problem of security and analyze it threadbare and look at it from a different perspective. Once you do this, there will be lot of clarity about the problems and that clarity would lead you to take a decision. You will then have peace of mind.
