“ Irony of an Architect ”
+
The great endeavors one must undertake in order to build “architecturally” without having their vision crushed by constraints. The conundrum, all the same, is that the idea of architecture without the challenge of constraints leads to mediocre designs. Following this ideology, we stray beyond from being an artist designing shapes and spaces to contractors bargaining budgets. The commercialization of this profession will be the Death of Architecture.

DESIGNING FOR WILDLIFE
+
RESEARCH Every scrap of biological diversity is priceless, to be learned and cherished, and never to be surrendered without a struggle. - Edward of Wilson.
+
Biodiversity and the environment, more importantly, Animal-Wildlife faces significant disturbance, with buildings being a major cause directly — indirectly. Consequently, creating an opportunity to tackle this topic through study which aims to demonstrate how wildlife safe design and planning strategies in architecture can save biodiversity while making sure that buildings are ecologically balanced. The buildings having a balance of ecological footprint have no provisions for animal friendly building strategies, while the ‘bio-diverse buildings’ is a relatively a new concept starting to catch architects attention has still a room for a lot of research. This became the backbone of the research as ‘Designing for Wildlife’ achieved by studying the worst practices in building industries and secondary studies of animal friendly design strategies were done from publications showcasing methods that can be adopted.

2020 | ARCHITECTURAL RESEARCH | DESIGNING FOR WILDLIFE
“… The Case for the conservation of nature and for the increase of our access to her must be stated more seriously and strongly than is customary, Not merely begged for on all grounds of amenity, of recreation, And repose, sound though they are, but insisted upon. On what grounds? In terms of the maintenance and development of life…” - Geddes, 1915, p. 51

Various variables in nature that impact the efficiency of a building, effective strategies that simulate the natural environment in an architectural space will be formulated. This is a piece of research needed for study related to wildlife as an ecological footprint has an indirect relation to balancing biodiversity. Will conservation and preservation techniques for wildlife have an impact on the performance of the building and the user?

Human The Research-based study was the first part, The Thesis is a program-based architectural study project and Continues to expand upon the dissertation research ‘Designing for Wildlife’ 2020. Today, urban expansion has invaded the exhausting forests and wild animals are forced to interact with streets in towns and in cities. On a day-to-day basis, the news is about wildlife attacks, and them being attacked whilst they search for food. Concrete forest encroachment taking place over the vegetated forest and building requirements that affect biodiversity as a whole. It’s paramount to draw a boundary, educate and create consciousness amongst people about the balance of biodiversity, ecosystem, & how important it is for survival.

+ AIM
India is one of the world’s ‘mega diversity. In Rajasthan, a large percentage of the total area is desert & there is little forest cover. However, the ‘Dhundhar’ region has a rich and varied flora and fauna, home to the state capital of Jaipur. The Aravalli and the south-eastern region are hills with ecology intact. It’s due to these ranges which have acted as an edge to urban inflation in Jaipur city, Accommodating biodiversity in metropolitanization, the Jhalana hill forest area is a biodiversity hub with diverse flora and fauna, which is under immense urban development pressure with a rise in carbon footprint, pollution and no biodiversity sustainable planning strategies. To protect the rich biodiversity in the Rajasthan region by selecting a site serving as a boundary between forest and urban areas and creating awareness through architectural projects amidst people while saving the biodiversity of the region.
+ The green grid is designed to surround the nearby urban sprawl,
thus creating opportunities for all the animals from the ecological area to interact with the buildings.
+ Access to Synanthrope Animals is given to the institute with
the zoning of the building. This also insures the animal corridors are retained along with the green grid.
+ All the animals in the area are studied on a graph correspondent
to their interaction around the selected site, at different levels.
+ Multiple wildlife friendly Design and Planning techniques are used to provide coexisting spaces.
This project aims to create an institute campus near a wildlife protected area while exploring creative ways to resolve human-animal conflict, as well as providing WildlifeManagement courses for students, that are taught more practically near wildlife protected areas with an interactive museum for students and the public will create awareness about the biodiversity and its significance among the local people and children.

REVITALIZATION

THE LINK BETWEEN HISTORIC ARCHITECTURE & WATER Ancient water has been the architect behind the kings and their magnificent planned settlements. The preservation of system it flows through should be a priority, before all that’s left are the shapes and spaces it carved.
+
Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will face problems associated with global warming, urbanization, population growth, and water management, as will many other cities in India. As a result of the large amount of water that will be needed by the residents of this arid city, our research project questions the role of traditional water supply devices that are now left abandoned. It is intended to imagine a globalization, reactivation, and modernization of this ancient network of water systems, spanning different scales, from domestic wells to large lakes, so that it can be used in the metropolitanization of cities and the development of a metropolis-scale ecosystem. Ending with focusing on 2 large lakes, the design proposes an architectural solution for 4km between Amber and Jaipur.

+ SCOPE
The UNESCO-listed city is well known for its heritage, including its magnificent forts and palaces, and its luxurious lifestyle. The city was made the capital of Rajasthan in 1727, before which Amer was the capital of the Rajputana state. The history and culture of Maota Lake, its influence, ramifications on its surroundings, and implications for its users were documented, which led to the project to rediscover the connection between Amber and Jaipur through the Aravalli hills. Water was strategically allocated in both cities in order to meet public demands. In the 19th century, under the British government, the city expanded beyond its walls, gradually forming a metropolitan area that included neighboring towns. This research proposes to investigate the role of water in urban development and propose a potential solution.
+ Site visits to Amber Palace, surrounding havelies, temples,
gardens, and houses. Researching all historic structures nearby with a view to understanding the history of each place and the water system used in each and interviewing people about them.
+ Mapping out the catchment zones of Maota lake in relation to
Amber Valley, the current activities conducted alongside the lake with the user group, and a quick glance at the problems.
+ Assessing the nearby settlement to determine whether the
water-system is preserved, installed, or newly constructed to assist with drainage.
+ Expanded upon two years of research, devoted to determining
the core issues concerning the site and to collecting statistical data in anticipation of hypothetically filling Maota Lake. Conducting documentation research on the revival of Maota lake through knowledge of its importance and culture, influence, effect on its surroundings and users, launching the project to re-discover the link between Amber and Jaipur through the Aravalli hills.

During the building of Jaipur, formerly Jeypore, which is the capital and the largest city in the state of Rajasthan, Maharaj Jai Singh II made sure the old water systems were carried over to the new city and the natural drainage was provided to Talkatora and Mansagar lakes. He even planted Wells and Stepwells, providing adequate clean water to the city.

2019 | Master Research | REVITALIZATION + PROJECT
Throughout the second stage of working with the groups, we connected nearby sites and developed strategies for urban expansion. For this purpose, we designed on Mansagar Lake, Kanak Ghati Royal Gardens, and Maota Lake. Through understanding the importance of the water-bodies that are being forgotten as urbanization transforms these cities, the project focuses on the revival of Maota lake through the link between Jaipur and Amber. An analysis was conducted of all the work surveyed focusing on systems of water, vegetation in the area, historical monuments and mobility, Bringing all possible problems associated with each to light. Thereafter, formulating strategies and providing proposals of interventions to be adopted on urban level strategies for this case a “link”; awareness, revitalization, and functionality as a group.
+ IMPLEMENTATION
The Bridge Between Jaipur - Amber, and project for its survival & Revival of Maota morphed into stage 3, which was to build no architectural structure. Interpretation for the immense potential that the site holds, couldn’t sway the instincts of the site surveyed and studies, that any structure build of architectural importance would instead of adding to the already rich site subtracts from the historical monuments. This dilemma was like shaking sand in a sieve, the finer and obvious grains were discarded and the bigger issues for the site were strategic, planned and designed for was the answer to the conundrum
+ Connectivity issues were resolved first, implementing a new
route along Mansagar toward Delhi highway to reduce the traffic flow by Tourist with the provision of parking before the Amber valley near Kanak Ghati, strategically placing shuttle point along the road where the pedestrian walkways connect.
+ The green gird was placed accordingly along the pathway and
at the sites to shield from native climate, serving also as a defense against soil erosion, water evaporation, and managing micro Climate.
+ Different water systems were devised and placed on an urban
level all along with the ‘link’ to minimize the loss of water and reducing pollution of the water during monsoon season for the catchments.
+ Placing activity ‘pause points’ with public services, pavilions
for the education of the monuments along the link and markets to distribute the footfall and generate revenue with awareness.

+ ROYAL VINTAGE TRANSPORT + Vintage Transport Museum & Mechanical Garage with Cafe “ Form Follows Feminine”
- Oscar Niemeyer
Rajputana heritage culture considers vintage cars to be its pride and treasure. Rajasthani princes and aristocrats were among the first to order motorcars when they were introduced. From then on, a vintage car rally has become a landmark in Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Udaipur. With painstaking efforts, the royal families are actualizing car museums , and as such a hypothetical project is proposed in studio for Jodhpur City . Even though the Umaid Bhawan palace museum currently contains a gallery displaying cars and baggies of Jodhpur’s royal family. The project will house a transport exhibition for both domestic and international visitors as well as excellent service
+
for the motor-cars with ample circulation. The Vintage & Classic Car Collection will showcase the vehicles owned by past and current Maharajas of Marwar, an audiovisual gallery, offices and a cafe with rest rooms for visitors

+ CONCEPT
To design the building, the architectural studio was divided into two, with half following the guideline, “Form Follows Function”, while “Function Follows Form” for the other half for the assignment. There were four constraints for this project; the ground area must not exceed 25% of the 3600 M.sq site with setbacks of 25m front and 6-9m rear/sides, to deal with long and narrow spaces in a building with a roof that is not parallel to the floor planes, and to manage the extreme temperatures of Rajasthan with the building’s form, materials, and orientation.
+ Form of the building was developed initially as an pure oval shell
structure as an afterthought to the circulation patterns mapped in case studies and a curved surface that maintains lower indoor temperatures. This is a complete juxtaposition to the surrounding context and architecture.
+ Access and circulation were the most important aspects
of the design, and a looping system was put in place for both pedestrians and cars to allow seamless movement from entry to exit on the ground floor and basement. A mechanical platform was provided for vertical movement of moto, and simillarly the landscaping and site were implemented.
+ Structure for the form was developed with steel rib beams
creating a frame supporting the shell, also allowing for punctures in the pure form for stag movement of air circulation, natural lighting and subraction of space on top. The interior structure and floor slabs are reinforced concrete supported by columns
+ Spaces curved in complete harmony with the building form with
a entrance reception opening up to a dramatic light interception for the visual experience in indoor spaces with double height, mezannine floors, and cafe along the loop circulation so that the entire visual experience can be experienced without tracing steps backwards. The designexperience proves, “a rationally designed structure may not necessarily be beautiful but no building can be beautiful that does not have a rationally designed structure.” - Louis Sullivan maxim, resuming Viollet-le-Duc’s théories.

+ CONCEPTUAL VISUALIZATION + ILLUSTRATIONS & MISCELLANEOUS
Creating environmental visualisations and conceptual designs are hobbies that require me to employ a variety of skills, including sketching, illustration, inking, character and asset modelling with tools such as Photoshop, Blender, Unreal Engine, and anything that mitigates the limitations of reality. The process of learning texture, paint, 3dgrammetry, understanding values and colors, and modeling in 3d efficiently and managing resources is a learning curve, however the process is fascinating, and progress rewards imagination.
