celebrating ten years The latter half of 2018 was an important time for Saunders & Associates. We celebrated our tenth anniversary, opened a beautiful new office in Westhampton Beach, hired our 230th agent and our affiliated title insurance company, New York Title Abstract Services, Inc. (NewYorkTitle.com), continued to capture significant market share. It’s extraordinary how different the Hamptons real estate market is today from the fourth quarter of 2008 when we started our firm. In October 2008 we opened our doors two weeks after Lehman Brothers collapsed and the stock market crashed. Visibility regarding the future was poor and many people thought we were in the midst of the next Great Depression. Transactional activity was anemic and the only homes that sold were deeply discounted. Today we enjoy a dynamic market that predictably generates between $4 billion and $5 billion annually in real estate transactions from Westhampton to Montauk. From the beginning, the core mandate of our firm has been to craft and mobilize innovative endeavors designed to get our listings sold. While we had the swagger of a new market participant thinking that our ideas were better than those of our competitors, the market showed us that in times of disruption you have to innovate if you want to grow your business. We were in the right place at the right time. Our ideas were fresh and resonated with all the important constituencies. Brokers, clients and customers joined us and we have grown into the largest privately owned brokerage firm in the Hamptons. As reported by The Real Deal, our sell side dollar volume (dollar amount of sales of Saunders exclusive listings) of $754M - the third highest in the Hamptons - was modestly below that of corporate giants Douglas Elliman (11 Hamptons offices) and the Corcoran Group (9 Hamptons offices). We accomplished those results with three offices. Our agents are supported by a 16-person in-house marketing team that’s unique in the industry and provides them with state-of-the-art tools to empower them to grow their business. ascent of a real estate leader As a developer since 1996, Andrew Saunders has conceptualized, masterfully built, financed, and sold many “south of the highway” estates in the Hamptons. He is known for his ability to match the right concept in the right location at the right time with the right buyer. Saunders realized that his skills as a developer were synergistic with many of the qualities of a successful luxury real estate agent. He joined Sotheby’s International Realty in 2001 and quickly rose to become one of their top brokers nationwide, and in 2007 was ranked #43 of all brokers in the United States by The Wall Street Journal.
