Ptuj, a town of superlatives
P
t u j is a town of superlatives: it holds several titles containing a superlative. Ptuj is the oldest town in Slovenia. By 69 AD, a military camp in this location had grown into the fortified town of Poetovio, one of the largest towns in the Roman provinces with 40,000 to 60,000 inhabitants. Ptuj is also the only town in Slovenia with an almost completely preserved medieval centre. Underneath the streets of Ptuj lies one of the largest wine cellars in Slovenia. The tradition of wine cellars in Ptuj dates back over 700 years and this is also where the oldest preserved wine in Slovenia is kept: Zlata trta (Golden Vintage) from 1917. Furthermore, Ptuj is one of the largest centres of Mithraism in Europe, while the church on the nearby Ptujska gora hill is regarded as a jewel of Gothic ecclesiastical art in Slovenia. Ptuj also has the first open-air museum in Slovenia, originating in 1830, when countless Roman monuments were built into the town tower... Last but not least, the Kurenti and other carnival costumes make the carnival town of Ptuj one of the most entertaining and lively towns in Slovenia. We have listed just a few titles and facts here, but they do not even come close to describing everything that Ptuj has to offer. Rather than facts, visitors are usually much more fascinated by the many possibilities for spending an active, romantic and comfortable vacation in these parts. You will find walking, hiking, running and cycling trails winding around the picturesque countryside between Slovenske gorice and Haloze. You can go surfing, rowing, sailing or waterskiing on the nearby Ptuj Lake, while adrenaline enthusiasts can experience a tandem skydive or a glider flight. Have you always wanted to go up in a hot air balloon? Why not try it? Ptuj is the perfect location for that, as well. You can also try horse riding, hunting and fishing, see the wine road and visit a tourist farm or just relax in a blooming meadow on the Dravsko or Ptujsko polje. Apartment Village *** The apartments are of varying sizes – the largest can accommodate up to 5 people – and are located in the direct vicinity of the Thermal Park (up to 200 m away). Guests staying in the apartment village are entitled to free admission to the Thermal Park swimming pools and the Finnish, Turkish and aroma steam saunas.

20 friendly and homely rooms in a green oasis in the direct vicinity of the Thermal Park. Just a few steps (up to 200 m) and you can leave the lively bustle of the Thermal Park behind and relax in the comfort of your own room. All the rooms are equipped with a telephone and cable TV.
The Terme Ptuj camp is a haven for modern nomads in all seasons. There are 120 spots for tents and caravans under the trees or you can rent a holiday cottage furnished with a modern infrastructure. Guests staying in the camp are entitled to free admission to the Thermal Park swimming pools and the Finnish, Turkish and aroma steam saunas.
Meetings and Conferences
The Grand Hotel Primus is an excellent choice for business meetings, lectures, workshops and other MICE events. The multipurpose conference halls can accommodate from 20 to 220 people. On the ground floor is a smaller conference hall for up to 50 people and two connected halls, which can accommodate around 110 people each and which can be combined into a larger hall for 220 people. All the conference halls are open to the daylight, are equipped with the latest technology and everything you need to organise a business or any other type of event of the highest standard.

Ptuj and its surroundings have always been known for their excellent food and wine, once enjoyed by the Romans, lords, soldiers and merchants, but today you can share in these gourmet and oenological treats as well. Primus Wine Stories and other social events are held in the Gemina XIII club in the Grand Hotel Primus. The pleasant club, designed on two levels with a central amphitheatre, makes the perfect venue for parties, dances, meetings, concerts and theatre performances.

After several months of preparations and the selection of the best couple, their exclusive wedding in accordance with ancient Roman tradition also marks the beginning of the swim-
ming season in the last days of April. In the summer, when we organise Roman games with over 1000 participants, Terme Ptuj and its surroundings become a Roman settlement for over a month, modelled on the famous Gemina XIII legion that built a camp in this location almost 2000 years ago. The Saturnalia festival was ancient Rome’s response to the long and boring winter: in the last month of the year, the Romans would visit the baths and indulge in the hedonistic pleasures of excellent food and drink. The contemporary Saturnalia in Terme Ptuj is not very different: we offer gastronomic pleasures by the swimming pools for you to indulge in.
