Transitional Housing We are designing for people who are homeless and formerly homeless that are working towards achieving goals. While impacting the mission hills community in a positive way to de-stigmatized homelessness. If we provide basic human needs including: shelter, mailbox, connection to a supportive community, and mental health services, we believe that they will better understand their situation and be equipped to achieve their goals. We believe life happens in between architecture, so we want to create the maximum amount of social spaces on our site. We did this by stacking 20 units on the south side, consolidating circulation into a block, and lifting the entire thing on a podium to create room for commercial activity, and more community space underneath.

SD Velodrome Balboa Park, San Diego

The San Diego Velodrome was originally constructed in 1975 and has been used ever since by the San Diego Velodrome Association. There are currently no facilities on the site besides a few metal bleachers. The people who race there would benefit from a club house, bike storage and a gym. The San Diego Velodrome Association is involved in the community, doing many introductory courses, hosting a bike swap and they have races every Friday night that the people of San Diego enjoy going out to see. Facilities would greatly help their organization prosper in the community even more than they do now.
