THE PURG HOUSE
The Purg House is a 3,000 sf home designed for an adventurous family looking to set down roots in Purgatory, Colorado, after traveling in a converted bus for the last few years. While living in the bus the couple collected two dogs, two kids and a cat, so they’re craving a little space! They want to maintain some aspects of tiny, nomadic living, within their somewhat spacious mountain home, so they are remaining “off grid” with their own water well, septic and energy production on the roughly 2 acre property. The site is special because of the ability to be off grid, while being within walking distance to a ski resort and hiking in public land right from their home. another fun aspect of this project is they’re doing most of the consruction themselves, so ironing out all the details of how the house goes together has been a greatly collaborative process between myself, the owner/builder, and their engineer. WILLIAMS ADDITION
The Williams love their 1,700 square foot home and neighborhood in Tacoma, Washington, but they need just a bit more space to exersise and play with their grandkids. The family is also very involved in the community and want a place to have larger gatherings. It’s truly a multi functional space! There will be a moveable wall in the center of the room to close off the gym exquiptment to kids, but other than that, it’s a wide open space. Light was one issue in this project, because the dining room, kitchen and living were loosing their main windows. So the addition is fairly narrow with windows that line up with the existing windows to try to maintain views, and there’s a skylight in the kitchen which more than replaces the light that was lost.
