SPECIFICATION NOTES - ROOF LEVEL PLANTING Soi l Preparation Any rubbish/vegetative spoil is to be removed f rom site. Green roof to be Fyt ogreen syst em or similar wit h a total system depth of 445mm and total per square meter of 255kg with t he Blower's mix. Soil mix to be a light weight growing medium such as perlite and peat or similar is t o be used t hroughout the si te in the new raised Planters. A ll import ed t opsoil is t o be free of weeds, rubble and other mat erials deleterious to plant growt h and is to incorporate perlit e or vermiculit e and other light weight, high water st orage capacit y com ponents such as peat moss, compost ed sawdust and bark fines, coco peat , washed sand and recommended fert ilizers and water ret ai ning crystals. The Growing medium is to be laid over a prepared sub-base of washed sand. I mported growing medium is t o be lightly and uniformly compacted in 150mm layers t o a minimum dept h of 300mm. Planti ng Planting shall be carried out using accept ed hort icultural pract ices with all plants conformi ng t o the species, size and quantit ies indicated on the Landscape Plan and Plant Schedule. Plant s shall be thoroughly soaked t hrough immersion in water prior t o planting and if the plant ing soil is very dry t hen t he plant ing hole is also t o be f illed with wat er and al lowed t o drain completely. All plant s shall be appropriately hardened off in t he nursery. Use plant s with t he f ol lowing characterist ics: Large healthy root systems with no evidence of root curl or pot bound restrict ion or damage, vigorous, well est ablished, f ree from disease and pest s and of good f orm, consistent wit h the species or variety, hardened off - not soft or forced. Plant s t hat do not meet these requirements will be rejected. P lanting holes for shrubs and groundcovers are t o be of minimum si ze 75mm larger than t he planting pot i n all di rect ions.

Semi-advanced t ree plant ing holes are to be the same dept h as the root ball and 2-3 t imes it s diameter, wit h the top of t he root ball being at grade. Planting holes are not to be excavated using an auger unless the edges of the hole are later broken up using a spade or similar. The use of augers can sm ooth t he side of the hole and lead t o root girdl ing. TOP OF F ENCE

Mulc h Organic mul ch is to be suppl ied t o al l garden beds & raised plant ers and is t o be of chipped or shredded vegetabl e mat erial with 80% of particles in the size range 25 to 50mm in plan and 5 t o 10mm in thickness. No parti cles are to exceed 75mm in plan. Mulch shall be f ree of deleterious and extraneous matt er such as soi l, weeds and sticks. Mulch is t o be stockpiled and thoroughly weathered prior to deli very.
