NICARAGUA Save the Children works in Nicaragua promoting the rights of children and adolescents to education, to health and to a life without violence. Our approach is based on the participation of children and adolescents, their families and communities in their own development.

AREAS OF INTERVENTION

OUR WORK Education: we work to ensure that children have access to quality educational services, encourage inclusive education for children with disabilities, promote intercultural bilingual education and work with adolescents in technicalproductive educational programs. In addition, we promote community and school participation in disaster risk reduction.

Child Rights Governance: we work in coordination with national and local governments to improve investments for children. We encourage active participation of children and adolescents in the development of laws and policies that affect them and advocate for their views to be heard. We also support the monitoring and fulfillment of their rights in cooperation with civil society, the State, academia and the private sector.

Protection: we strengthen child protection systems so children can live in a violence- and exploitation-free environment.We promote the elimination of all forms of violence against children and adolescents, gender equity and the development of positive masculinity.We encourage positive parenting and proper care.

Poverty Reduction: we implement programs with a focus on livelihoods for families to improve their quality of life and investment in education, health and child protection.We encourage adolescents to develop skills for a successful transition to adulthood.
