NICARAGUA Save the Children works in Nicaragua promoting the rights of children and adolescents to education, to health and to a life without violence. Our approach is based on the participation of children and adolescents, their families and communities in their own development.

OUR WORK Education: we work to ensure that children have access to quality educational services, encourage inclusive education for children with disabilities, promote intercultural bilingual education and work with adolescents in technicalproductive educational programs. In addition, we promote community and school participation in disaster risk reduction.

Child Rights Governance: we work in coordination with national and local governments to improve investments for children. We encourage active participation of children and adolescents in the development of laws and policies that affect them and advocate for their views to be heard. We also support the monitoring and fulfillment of their rights in cooperation with civil society, the State, academia and the private sector.

GOAL To increase opportunities and build skills among poor rural children by advocating for a greater public investment in quality basic services to ensure their survival, protection and development.
IMPACT By 2018: • National and local governments have increased investment in quality public services (mainly in education, health and protection) in rural areas. • The causes of social exclusion and rural child poverty have been addressed in the social, institutional and media agendas, parallel to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 and the Human Development National Plan 2012-2016. • 50% of the children reached by our programs participated in the campaign and in accountability processes on the quality of public services offered to rural poor children at local and national level.

NATIONAL CHILD PROTECTION PROGRAM AGAINST ALL FORMS OF VIOLENCE
GOAL To develop skills and resources in young farmers to increase their income and resilience, in order to guarantee coffee production as their main livelihood.
IMPACT 525 young people ages 14-25 (210 women and 315 men) from rural coffee growing communities. New generation of coffee-farmers with an increased income and decent livelihoods. Young girls and men with skills and assets to make informed decisions and with access to sustainable livelihoods, making them resilient to shocks.

COMMUNITY CASE MANAGEMENT IN NICARAGUA: REACHING THE MOST EXCLUDED WITH BASIC HEALTH SERVICES
GOAL GOAL To reduce violence against children and adolescents in three municipalities with the highest rate of violence against children by strengthening the capacities of child-led organizations, families, schools and the community for the prevention of violence.
IMPACT 9,000 children and adolescents reached directly. 1,000 parents and teachers reached directly. Children and adolescents, their families and communities are protected against violence using self-protection mechanisms.

Ensure that excluded boys and girls have access to basic health services and that these are of quality. We also hope to replicate and escalate this model to public policy level in Nicaragua.
IMPACT Reduce child mortality due to prevalent diseases in 641 communities with difficult access to health services in Jinotega, Matagalpa and León. Expand community cases management in 33 municipalities of Jinotega, Matagalpa and León. Increase the capacity of 1,900 community health workers to provide community basic health services.
