PERU Save the Children works in Peru with our partners and allies.Together, we implement programs in the areas of education, health and nutrition, protection from violence, abuse and exploitation, disaster risk reduction and advocacy for children’s rights.
AREAS OF INTERVENTION
OUR WORK Education: we seek to ensure that children have access to safe and good quality basic education services, develop reading skills and achieve learning outcomes. We work so that children with disabilities, and indigenous children have access to relevant education according to their needs and culture. Child Rights Governance: we work with national, regional and local governments seeking to ensure compliance with children’s rights, demand and monitor more and better investment, and promote the active participation of children, adolescents and their organizations in the process of creating laws and policies. Protection: we protect children and adolescents from all forms of violence and exploitation by strengthening the violence protection system. One of our main objectives is to promote that the law banning physical and humiliating punishment is disseminated and implemented.

Disaster Risk Reduction and Humatarian Response: we develop prevention, preparedness and risk management actions and work with governments, communities and schools to establish and implement emergency and risk management plans.We respond by ensuring protection, timely attention and recovery for the affected children.

Child Poverty: we implement programs with a focus on livelihoods so that children and adolescents can develop their skills and make a successful transition to adulthood. Health & Nutrition: we promote access to sexual and reproductive health education and services.We work in maternal and newborn health with women of childbearing age, and in nutrition with an emphasis on children under 3 years.

ERRADICATION OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE AGAINST CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS IN VIRTUAL SPACES GOAL • To strengthen prevention and protection in the implementation of policies, care of children and adolescents who are victims, and reporting in society and media, at the local, national and regional level. • Capacity development for personnel involved in policy implementation and governance, care of children and adolescents who are victims, and reporting in society and media, at the local, national and regional level, in the framework of the WeProtect models.
IMPACT 1,600 children and adolescents. 450 public staff. 120 student leaders of municipal schools. 60 adolescent leaders (30 girls and 30 boys), connected through the organization ”Yo también tengo algo que decir” 36 women from Women-based organizations. 8,500 adults, 4,500 women and 4,000 men informed and trained to implement actions for the prevention and protection against all forms of violence, including sexual.
