DOMINICAN REPUBLIC Save the Children works in the Dominican Republic in alignment with the Global Priorities of Health, Education, Protection, Child Rights Governance and Disaster Risk Reduction, including humanitarian responses.
AREAS OF INTERVENTION
OUR WORK Education: we seek to ensure that children have universal and nondiscriminatory access to basic education services and to high quality early childhood development centers. We also promote literacy skills development and healthy learning environments in schools. Child Rights Governance: we work in coordination with the central government to promote increased and effective public expenditure on children. We also work with local governments to include child-serving activities in municipal budgets. Protection: we work to protect children against all forms of child abuse, including child labor, child marriage and human trafficking. We focus on prevention and on strengthening the national child protection system. Health: we work to eliminate infant mortality from preventable causes, chronic malnutrition and mortality from infectious diseases in children under five, and prevent ZIKA.We also promote access to sexual and reproductive health for adolescent girls, focused on reducing teen pregnancies. Disaster Risk Management and Humanitarian Response: we work on increasing resilience of the most vulnerable communities, focusing on children, adolescents and women. Our approach is to prepare, prevent, reduce risks and support humanitarian action in emergency situations.
