MEXICO Save the Children has been implementing programs in 18 of the 32 states of the republic of Mexico starting in 1973. In cooperation with our partners and allies, we strive to protect children and adolescents, eradicate child exploitation and prevent migration of unaccompanied children. We also promote quality education and healthy food habits.

AREAS OF INTERVENTION

OUR WORK Education: we promote access to quality education and prevent drop-outs by working directly with children using pedagogical models, training of teachers and increasing participation of parents. We strengthen the Network for Early Childhood which benefits over 8,000 children aged 0 to 6 years. We also monitor, evaluate and analyze the impact of our projects such as literacy workshops. Health and Nutrition: our work focuses on food workshops and games with pre-school and primary school children. We provide a balanced diet in community canteens and continuous attention for special cases of nutritional risks. We work hand in hand with teachers to raise awareness of nutrition and diet among small children and their families. Protection: our programs allow us to work directly to reduce child pregnancies, erradicate child marriage and exploitation, eliminate school bullying and violence affecting the development and future of children. We strengthen environments of quality education and non-violence through the project “Escuelas Construyendo Paz” and provide psycho-emotional care to children using the Healing through art (HEART) methodology. Prevention and care for unaccompanied migrant children: we strive to prevent migration in communities with negative net migration at the northern and southern borders as well as in the center of Mexico to prevent school drop-outs, enable children to remain in their home communities and improve their living conditions. We also strengthen capacities of the staff of transit shelters who are in contact with children, and install child-friendly spaces to provide support and protection.

I started at Save the Children full of motivation because of what the organization does not only in Mexico but around the world. My job is to give workshops to children, but also building Ecotechnics. Being part of this movement has been one of the most satisfying experiences.
