Welcome
Mount Pleasant Golf Club is open to the public and situated in some beautiful Bedfordshire countryside in the village of Lower Stondon, which is within easy reach of Hitchin, Luton, Bedford and Stevenage. We have a very attractive 9-hole golf course, with 18 different tees, offering a golfing challenge of nearly 6,200 yards with a par of 70. The layout is always immaculately presented and incorporates an abundance of natural features. Our fantastic award-winning clubhouse is perfect for celebrations of all types and sizes including weddings, birthday and anniversary parties. The building can be split into different-sized rooms that can accommodate from 10 to over 100 people. We have great catering
facilities, with lovely views across the golf course, ample parking and are an excellent venue for conferences. For a refreshing drink, filling snack or a fine dining experience, head for the Fairway Bar & Bistro, where everyone will be looked after by our caring and attentive staff. A comparatively young club, formed in 1992, you will find this translates into a positive. There is a youthful enthusiasm, warmth and friendliness about Mount Pleasant and we are proud to be a family-run business that cares. New faces are not strangers for very long and there is none of the stuffiness to be found at many ‘traditional’ golfing establishments. The new clubhouse opened in 2010 and won the prestigious award of Club Mirror ‘Proprietary Club of the Year 2010’. We very much look forward to welcoming you for what we are sure will be a memorable visit. Welcome 05

About Our Course Mount Pleasant opened for play in July 1992 and has established a reputation for its excellent condition and presentation. The Club is open for Pay & Play as well as offering flexible membership options.
It is a very attractive nine-hole golf course, with 18 different tees, covering about 70 acres. From the white tees it measures nearly 6,200 yards with a par of 70.
trees, mainly indigenous species, were planted and all of these plantations are now very well established, making for some excellent tree-lined holes. By using the well-proven construction principals recommended by the English Golf Union and incorporating a good drainage and irrigation system, the course is playable all year round.
The course has been designed to provide an interesting challenge, as well as a fair test of golf to established players, but not be too intimidating to enthusiastic beginners. The layout incorporated three meadows, with existing trees, hedges, ponds and ditches. Some 10,000 extra About Our Course 07 PR_Mount Pleasant_0509.indd 7

Some revisions to the course have taken place over the years. A new 4th/13th green has been built, extending a short par 4 by some 70 yards. The old green was excavated to form a large pond. A new tee has been built for the 18th hole and new tees have also been constructed to add further length for competitions. Mount Pleasant Golf Club is owned and managed by the Simkins family, who previously farmed the land. The course complements the environment, using the natural contours of the land, and its maintenance is carried out in a sustainable way. See our website for more fantastic photographs and hole descriptions.

About Our Clubhouse The clubhouse (known as the Fairway Bar & Bistro) is open to the public and has a fantastic view overlooking the course, with a covered veranda for year-round outside seating.
The construction is a single storey timber build and is sympathetic to the surrounding environment. Care was taken to make the building as environmentally friendly as possible, using air source heating and energy efficient lighting. The new facilities include changing rooms, TV area and function rooms available for hire for conference and training needs, as well as private parties, events and weddings.
A full catering service is available seven days a week, providing quality food prepared and cooked by our own chefs using fresh ingredients and innovative menus. As well as club favourites and traditional food our caterers love to use their culinary expertise to create bespoke menus to suit your budget and make your event all the more memorable.

The bar is supported by Fullers Brewery, offering London Pride on cask, as well as a selection of ales, lager and ciders. Unusually for a golf club, our real ales have ‘Cask Marque’ accreditation. Our wine selection cannot be purchased on the high street, again offering just that little something different. The contemporary lounge area is a great place to meet and relax with friends over a cup of coffee and a slice of delicious homemade cake. Food is served daily from 9am to 3pm and Wednesday to Saturday evenings 6pm to 9pm, with the fully licenced bar being open for longer. The food was prepared fresh to our exacting standards and was delivered to our guests with a smile, on time and hot! Many people have since commented that our day was “the best wedding they have been to”, of which the venue played a huge part and Tara and her team are superb. My husband and I have no problem recommending Mount Pleasant. Thank you for doing a great job” Mr & Mrs I Cooper

Conferences
Mount Pleasant is delighted to offer businesses the opportunity to make use of our club and its facilities for corporate golf days or as the memorable spot for a meeting or conference. Our modern, spacious clubhouse provides an ideal venue away from the office environment and a friendly welcome and exceptional service allows you to concentrate on the business at hand. There are two private function rooms, the Orchid Room and the Iris Room, which are available for hire for conferences, board meetings, seminars, corporate
days, training sessions, networking events and team building. These rooms are partitioned allowing them to become one room, to accommodate up to 80 people for a theatre-style meeting. Outside there is the main feature - a veranda covered by the roof canopy and adjoining patio to allow for additional seating, with picturesque views of the 18th fairway. For meetings or events of more than 30 guests or depending on room layout we would recommend removing the partition and using both of the function rooms. All the rooms are temperature controlled and Conferences 19

Prizes are available from our pro shop and one of our Professionals would be delighted to put on a group golf clinic before you take to the course. “Tara provided ID-Marketing with a great venue for our one-day seminar at the Mount Pleasant Golf Club - with excellent support and catering - the day was a relaxed success and we have already re-booked. Ian Deavin

Social Events
Mount Pleasant is a young and vibrant golf club. Our friendly membership have an equally enjoyable time off the course as they do on it.
An extensive and varied programme of social events is organised throughout the year, with the aim being that there should be something to appeal to everyone, whatever their taste in entertainment and all are welcome. These social occasions range from the traditional favourites such as quiz nights and race nights, to summer discos and even a fireworks display.
Notable dates in the diary such as Christmas and Mother’s Day are marked with social events at the club and the party to welcome in the New Year is always one not to be missed. The annual Christmas Fayre never fails to get everyone in the festive spirit, while wine tasting and jazz and tapas evenings highlight a variety you will not see in the social calendar of many golf clubs. Mount Pleasant even has its own take on Ladies Day at Ascot - one of the social events of the year - with a very enjoyable afternoon tea held at the Club.
For more information regarding upcoming events please contact the General Manager on 01462 810100 email: tarasimkins@mountpleasantgolfclub.co.uk or view our website: www.mountpleasantgolfclub.co.uk Social Events 23 PR_Mount Pleasant_0509.indd 23

Membership Benefits
There are many reasons to consider becoming a member of Mount Pleasant Golf Club. One of the most compelling - apart from having a lovely course and wonderful new, modern facilities - is that we consider ourselves to be the friendliest club in the area. It is easy to make such a claim, but we would be delighted for you to put us to the test. Pop in as a visitor for a quick drink and while you are here sit down and sample the atmosphere. Feel free
to chat with our Members and ask them what they think of the club and what makes them renew their subscriptions. We are confident the feedback you receive will be positive. The dictionary defines pleasant as “giving a sense of happy satisfaction or enjoyment” and “friendly and considerate”. In short, here at Mount Pleasant, we live up to our name.

Members’ Golf
Members at Mount Pleasant enjoy a full programme of competitions throughout the year, both playing against each other and at home and away against other clubs.
We have active and thriving sections for Men, Ladies, Juniors (under-18s) and Seniors (aged 55 and over). Each group enjoys several friendly matches over the course of the year which offers the chance to test one’s game under the pressure of competition as well as to play some of the other courses in the area. Members are also encouraged to enter county competitions.
Within the club itself, one of the most prestigious trophies contested annually are the Club Championships, which seeks to identify the outstanding golfer of the year in each playing category. While it is always a pleasure to see the game being played well, we appreciate not everyone can aspire to being a scratch or single-figure handicap golfer. There is plenty to keep the interest of those who may not go out and shoot under 80 every time they take to the course, one such competition being the Handicap Championships’.

Each section runs their own matchplay knockout competitions for pairs and individual players, as well as monthly medals and stableford events. A particular highlight of the year are the respective Captain’s Days, which always promise a terrific day out both on the course and off it. Much of the golf precedes an eagerly anticipated get-together in the clubhouse afterwards, the 9-Hole Championship being one such example, with the competition being followed by a barbecue. Should you consider becoming a Member of Mount Pleasant? Absolutely. Pop along to one of our club nights held on Wednesdays from May through to September and you will see the camaraderie that exists at the club. New Members are made to feel a part of the club from day one. Juniors
Mount Pleasant Golf Club is totally committed to promoting golf at all levels, and nowhere is this more apparent than with our Junior section. We aim to coach, encourage and assist juniors to play at a level that they are comfortable with and to ensure new players are introduced to the game of golf with a sound knowledge and understanding of the game, rules and etiquette. Most importantly of all, rest assured your children will be in safe hands with us. The Club acknowledges its duty of care to safeguard the welfare of children and operates a Child Protection Policy.
Male juniors who have a handicap are eligible to play in all club competitions. Boys can play in the Men’s competitions and girls in Men’s and Ladies competitions. Juniors have a handicap greater than 28 or do not yet have a handicap should play from the red tees at all times (including competitions). Male juniors with a handicap of 28 or below should play from the yellow tees for general play and from the white tees in competitions. The club operates an equity, equality and equal opportunities policy with regards to male and female juniors competing together in junior competitions. Various events are held throughout the season, organised around the school holidays. There is also group coaching for juniors held on a Saturday morning.

Visitors
Visitors are always welcome at Mount Pleasant. We endeavour to provide a warm welcome and a day out to remember. You do not have to be a golfer to be able to spend an enjoyable time with us. The Fairway Bar & Bistro are open throughout the day where you are always welcome to enjoy a social drink or friendly meal. If you do come for the golf, players can look forward to an excellent round with some of the fastest and best greens in the area. The course drains exceptionally well and is playable in all but the severest of weather. It was designed to
provide interesting and varied levels of challenge to give a fair game of golf to established players but not to be intimidating to enthusiastic beginners. Juniors and Students (with card) pay a reduced green fee. There are also reductions, at certain times, for Seniors aged 65 and over. Handicap Certificates are not required for general play at Mount Pleasant. We are a fairly relaxed club, but we do ask visitors to respect our rules, dress code and standard golfing etiquette to ensure their visit runs as smoothly as possible.
