WELCOME
If you are looking for some excellent golf in Hampshire, look no further than The Hampshire Golf Club. Founded in 1993, it is set in 240 acres of rolling Hampshire countryside in the famous Test Valley. The undulating land provides wonderful views. The 6,393-yard-long Manor Course is laid out on freedraining chalk downland which means that the Course has never been closed due to wet weather. This ensures good winter golf and therefore value for money.
We can also offer you an ideal venue for your function such as weddings, business conferences, birthday or anniversary parties and Christmas dinners too. What better venue in Andover to book for your staff party? Call us now for more information on one of the best function venues in town.
THE HAMPSHIRE GOLF CLUB 05
The Academy Course provides an excellent facility for beginners and experienced golfers. It is a fine course in its own right, consisting of par-3 and par-4 holes. We also have a 10-bay covered driving range and a putting green and a chipping/bunker area is also available for practice. The well-stocked Professional shop has a wide range of merchandise, with PGA Professional Tim Baker offering tuition. Golf buggies, trolleys and clubs are also available for hire.
We welcome both members and visitors during the week and at weekends. We look forward to welcoming you at the club.

OUR COURSES
The main Manor Course first opened in 1993 and has matured into one of the best courses in the local area.
The Manor Course measures 6,393 yards long and is a fair and enjoyable challenge for any level of golfer. The outward nine, with one par three and one par five, is considerably longer than the inward half, which has three par fives but also three short holes. The Standard Scratch Score is just one shot fewer than the par of 72, reflecting what a good test of golf this is.
THE HAMPSHIRE GOLF CLUB 07
As well as offering a spectacular test of golf, one of the course’s key features is its ability to withstand the worst that the British weather can throw at it.
The course is laid out on chalk, which means that it drains really quickly even after the wettest of weather. As a result, course closures are unheard of (apart from the occasional snow flurry) and play is possible all year round.
OUR COURSES CONTINUED
The Manor Course was ranked among the top 10 all-round courses in the UK by Today’s Golfer. It tests your all-round game, but places particular emphasis on a player’s ability around the greens to score well, according to Head Professional Tim Baker.
As for memorable holes, Tim’s favourites are the 15th, which offers a spectacular tee shot off a raised tee to the fairway some 70 yards below, and the 9th, which features a sharp dog-leg and a daunting shot over water along with other potential trouble lurking in
THE HAMPSHIRE GOLF CLUB 09
the form of out of bounds down the right and bushes down the left.
For those looking to learn the game without the pressure of perhaps holding up the more experienced player, there is our nine-hole Academy Course. This is no pitch and putt, with a good mixture of par-3 and par-4 holes, perfect not only for beginners but for those who perhaps do not have the time available to play a full 18 holes or wishing to sharpen up their short game. TOUR THE COURSE
If you have never played The Hampshire before you are in for a treat. Make the most of your trip by learning about some of the pitfalls that lie in wait and how to avoid them as you follow our course tour courtesy of Tim Baker, our Head PGA Professional. HOLE 1 (MANOR) 380 YARDS, PAR 4
An accurate tee shot down the left centre of the fairway is required between bunkers left and right to set up the best angle for the approach shot to a narrow green with bunkers to the right.
THE HAMPSHIRE GOLF CLUB 11
HOLE 2 (DROVERS WAY) 269 YARDS, PAR 4
A relatively easy par 4, beware of the bunkers from the tee and stay below the hole for an easier putt on this very testing green. A reachable green for the longer hitters. Out of bounds to the left. HOLE 3 (HAREWOOD) 398 YARDS, PAR 4
The ideal tee shot will be just to the right of the marker post and will run down the fairway leaving an easy approach to the green. The green has a mound going all around it so keep the approach as straight as possible. WWW.THEHAMPSHIREGOLFCLUB.CO.UK

TOUR THE COURSE CONTINUED
HOLE 4 (LONG BOTTOM) 191 YARDS, PAR 3
A challenging par 3, correct club selection is the key, anything beyond or to the right of the green can be in trouble.
THE HAMPSHIRE GOLF CLUB 13
HOLE 7 (THOMPSONS REACH) 421 YARDS, PAR 4
HOLE 5 (ROAD HOLE) 513 YARDS, PAR 5
A long challenging par 4 requiring an accurate drive. Anything to the right leaves a blind second shot. Keep the ball below the hole with your approach to leave an uphill putt on this very tricky green.
HOLE 6 (THE WHITHIES) 366 YARDS, PAR 4
A long par 4 requiring a straight drive with trouble on the left and bunkers on the right. Stay left with your approach as all the trouble is down the right.
Big hitters should reach this right-to-left dog-leg in two. Approach shots into the two-tier green are easier from the centre/left of the fairway.
HOLE 8 (THE SPIRE) 435 YARDS, PAR 4
A tee shot centre/right of the fairway leaves you the best line in to avoid the new grass bunker close to the edge of the right-hand side of the green. Banking around the green will feed the ball in from the left, but take enough club to clear the bunkers guarding the front of the green. WWW.THEHAMPSHIREGOLFCLUB.CO.UK
WWW.THEHAMPSHIREGOLFCLUB.CO.UK
TOUR THE COURSE CONTINUED HOLE 9 (SQUEAKERS REST) 354 YARDS, PAR 4 A short but narrow par 4 which dog-legs 90 degrees to the right. A pond and out of bounds are awaiting for a sliced tee shot. Long hitters will be tempted to cut the corner but should beware the hedge that runs along the left-hand side of the 9th. HOLE 10 (WATER TOWER) 318 YARDS, PAR 4
It is possible for the longer hitters to drive this par 4 at times but beware of the trees and bushes on the right and the pond behind the green. The safe shot is down the left side of the fairway. HOLE 11 (HATCHETTS) 520 YARDS, PAR 5
This hole appears to be a straightforward par 5 and it usually is. However, with the wind against it can be a real challenge. A birdie opportunity for the lower handicappers.
HOLE 12 (MIDDLE TRACK) 158 YARDS, PAR 3
This is a testing par 3 which can often deceive. You must beware of the bunkers; in particular the one on the left as you could lose a lot of strokes if you land in it! HOLE 13 (BADGERS) 453 YARDS, PAR 5
This par 5 can sometimes be reached in two if the wind is assisting. The safe thing to do is to stay on the left side of the fairway all the way to the green. HOLE 14 (THE DOWN) 167 YARDS, PAR 3
Another testing par 3 which can often deceive. You should favour the left side with your tee shot as anything to the right of the green can mean a long chip in to the green.
THE HAMPSHIRE GOLF CLUB 17
HOLE 15 (DUNFORDS) 456 YARDS, PAR 5
This hole is much easier when played as a par 5 from the white tees but a real test when played from the yellow tees as a par 4. Try to keep your tee shot to the right-hand side of the fairway to avoid the bunker and bushes on the left. Three bunkers guard the green and so check where the flag is in order to position your lay-up shot accordingly. HOLE 16 (CHALK PIT) 185 YARDS, PAR 3
A reasonable test of a par 3 with mounds around the green helping to feed the ball into the green, which has no sand bunkers around it. HOLE 17 (IREMONGER) 387 YARDS, PAR 4
The drive is all-important on this hole and it should be kept to the left-hand side of the fairway or it could go out of bounds to the right. Long hitters may choose to drive over the corner on this dog-leg right hole but they will not gain too much by doing so as a well-placed drive leaves only a short iron in to a green protected by just one grass bunker on the left and a large high mound on the right. HOLE 18 (DOG ROSE) 422 YARDS, PAR 4
A very difficult par 4 to finish with. All the land slopes away to the right on which side there is a high mound that has out of bounds posts running along the top of it. Two fairway bunkers protect the approaches to the green, and two others protect the left and back of the green. A par 4 to finish feels like a birdie!

FLEXIBLE GOLF PACKAGES In today’s fast moving society many golfers can’t justify golf club entrance fees and annual membership fees because they simply don’t have the chance to play enough golf. Do you play as often as you would like to?
The average number of rounds played by the 5 million golfers in Britain is just six per year! Points4Golf Membership gives all the benefits that are associated with being a member of a golf club: participation in ALL club events, levy card discount and advanced bookings. This allows you to play in club competitions and to gain a handicap.

MEMBERS’ GOLF Members at The Hampshire can look forward to an active golfing calendar throughout the season, both in terms of major competitions or more fun formats against fellow members, or representing the club in matches against some of the other leading clubs in the area.
The beauty of the handicap system is that it allows players of differing abilities to compete on an equal footing and still enjoy a game to the full. Good golf cannot always be guaranteed, but good company is never in short supply and the breathtaking views out over the Test Valley provide another tonic. MEN
The men enjoy regular matches against other clubs in a series of friendly fixtures as well as a regular programme of events within the club, some featuring fun formats such as Texas Scrambles, others with silverware on offer to the winners. The most soughtafter trophy is the Club Championship, which is held over 36 holes spread over two days in the first weekend in July.
Veteran golfers at the Hampshire are a major part of the club, love their golf and are very well catered for. Our seniors enjoy matches against their peers from other clubs in a seniors league and roll up at the club most Tuesdays and Fridays for a more casual round of golf.
THE HAMPSHIRE GOLF CLUB 33
LADIES

THE GOLF ACADEMY
Golfers looking to not only enjoy their game but also to improve their handicap will find The Hampshire an excellent choice of club. Our PGA-qualified Head Professional Tim Baker is on hand to provide expert tuition whenever you need it. Tim’s teaching is backed up by some outstanding practice facilities which allow you to invest time working on the new techniques he has taught you. Individual or group lessons are available, with all areas of the game covered from chipping and putting to improving accuracy off the tee.
Tim likes to take a hands-on approach to his tuition, while his golfing philosophy is based around trying to keep things as simple as possible for his pupils. The
THE HAMPSHIRE GOLF CLUB 35
latest technology is available, too. Video analysis can be offered on the Ipad, with the latest GASP software, enabling you to study your swing and compare yourself alongside the professionals. Video can make it easier to identify, understand and correct faults and video lessons can be e-mailed to the student, who can keep them for future reference. Technique is important, but so too is decision-making – playing the right shot at the right time. Tim is delighted to offer on-course lessons of an hour or longer in duration so you can learn the thought processes behind constructing a successful round. We also have clubs we can loan to beginner pupils wishing to see if golf is the game for them.

THE GOLF ACADEMY CONTINUED
Here at The Hampshire we have a love for the game of golf and are keen to share our passion for this friendly, sociable outdoor pursuit with as many people as we possibly can. We are committed to growing our sport and often every incentive for beginners wishing to give golf a go. The aim of our popular Golf Academy is to teach people all they need to understand the game: the basic techniques, the rules and the etiquette, so that they do not feel out of place. This we hope to do in a fun, inspiring and cost-efficient manner. Our Academy Course is perfect for those wishing to learn the game. While a proper golf course in its own right, it is not too testing and enables the new player
THE HAMPSHIRE GOLF CLUB 37
to get to grips with the basics of the game without the pressure a new player might feel playing on the main course surrounded by more experienced golfers.
Learn as an individual, or with a group of friends or family members. Our Give Golf a Go Scheme is ideal for beginners or advanced players wanting to improve their game. Different packages are available for all levels, ages and abilities, with one example being: • • • •

JUNIOR GOLF ACADEMY
The Hampshire Golf Club has a very active Junior Academy which is run by PGA Head Golf Professional Tim Baker and his assistants Ryan Norris and Tom Brewer. Our aim is to encourage children to firstly enjoy golf and then through regular attendance improve their technique in all areas of the game, with the long term goal of joining a golf club and gaining a handicap.
By covering the swing along with rules, etiquette and course management the juniors will have a good knowledge of the game and a firm grasp of the basics that will aid their long-term development. The club has been working hard towards achieving GolfMark accreditation for 2013. This is a national scheme run by England Golf that recognises junior and beginner-friendly golf clubs.
The golf team has done a great deal of work in recent years taking the game into the local community with initiatives such as Tri-Golf and Golf Extreme which have been promoted in schools and there are often free

taster sessions run at the club.
The Hampshire runs a Junior Academy with a structured programme that offers young golfers the following benefits: • • • • • • • • • • • •

JUNIOR GOLF ACADEMY CONTINUED
New for 2013, the club is launching a new junior programme aimed at children aged between 4 and 16 involving weekend and weekday coaching for all ages. Children will be able to take part in a four-week trial session and, if they enjoy the experience, can then sign up for the Golf Foundation’s Junior Golf Passport scheme. This is a ten-week block to be held on weekdays and at weekends in term-time with different levels for children to work towards depending on their ability.
It will feature individual junior lessons, junior playing lessons and sessions for elite young players who have shown promise and are looking to take their game to the next level.
There will be regular competitions for academy members, a championship Sunday in the final week of the course, a Junior Ryder Cup competition,
THE HAMPSHIRE GOLF CLUB 41
family events and matches against other clubs.
Exciting developments are also planned for our junior golf camp and fun days, with two courses a day running in the school holidays. The Birdie Course, for those aged 5 to 8, will run in the mornings and combine Tri-Golf and real golf, with competitions and fun sessions aimed at younger children with no previous experience.
The same fun element will also feature in the all-day Eagle Course for those aged 9-15, but with more focus on scoring and competitions. The Hampshire is also the perfect choice as a venue for children’s birthday parties and we are happy to build an event around the requirements of parents. With lots of golf, food and drink and party bags it is guaranteed to make any youngster’s special day. WWW.THEHAMPSHIREGOLFCLUB.CO.UK
INFORMATION FOR VISITORS
Visitors are warmly welcomed seven days a week at The Hampshire Golf Club. Warm up before play on our 10-bay covered driving range. Following your round, why not return to the friendly and welcoming clubhouse for some of our renowned catering or a drink or two with your playing partners? We are a fairly relaxed club, but we do ask visitors to respect our rules and standard golfing etiquette to ensure their visit runs as smoothly as possible.
In common with other clubs we do request that visitors abide by our dress code both on the course and in the clubhouse, specsific details of which can be found on our website, www.thehampshiregolfclub.co.uk. Please note that no dress code is required on the Academy Course.
THE HAMPSHIRE GOLF CLUB 43
Although handicap certificates are not mandatory, we do prefer golfers to be of a sufficient standard for them to be able to enjoy their round and for them not to inconvenience other players when out on the course. Special rates are available to guests of members, to juniors under the age of 17 and to those able to play later in the day when the course is at its quietest. Our staggered price structure for green fees also means that generally there is even better value on offer for visiting golfers who are able to play Monday to Thursday.
