SAYYID SHAFIEE (Ph.D)
Composer/Musician/Researcher/Academic A B O U T M E Sayyid Shafiee completed his PhD in composition at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire under the supervision of Joe Cutler, Sean Clancy and Howard Skempton. He received his MMus from the University of Manchester studied with Kevin Malone and Phillip Grange. His recent musical research includes exploration in western architecture where he managed to develop systematic frameworks in his composition to establish direct engagement with buildings aesthetically as well as intuitively.

Appointed as a Programme Director of Performing Arts at Taylor’s University, he managed to establish the entire curriculum to create a new programme where he has been working closely across all university departments together with the industry partners. His role includes developing the programme structure, identify learning outcomes and assessments, managing the resources, conducting the market research as well as to manage the administrative part of it.

Career
Besides teaching, he was also appointed as Honorary Secretary for Society of Malaysian Contemporary Composers and hosted the 4th Soundbridge Festival as a festival codirector that involved more than 60 international musicians and composers that showcases more than 40 new musical works. Enthusiastic towards music education and performing arts, his future career also involve cross-media discipline and its contributions towards contemporary music development in general.

His music has been featured in various festivals throughout the UK, Europe and Asia. He received performances from various festivals including Druskomanija (Lithuania), ChinaAsean Music Festival (China), Risuonanze Festival (Italy), Asian Composers League (Philippines), Soundbridge Festival (Malaysia), SNU New Music Festival (Korea) and many other music events. He also managed to build his saxophone skills after being awarded numbers of medals in European marching band competition.
