New Music Review Scissor Sisters: Night Work This is one of the most anticipated returns in pop music in recent years. Scissor Sisters last album, “Ta-dah” was released in 2006. Having taken some time off after the last album the band found it hard to get back into the groove and decided to scrap a whole load of recordings meant for “Night Work”. This led to Jake Shears spending some time in Berlin where he rediscovered his love of partying and where he wrote the bulk of this record. Let’s welcome them back and spend a lot more time out on the dance floor and partying! That’s exactly what pop music is about and it’s exactly what the Scissor Sisters are about. Have fun!

Around the World on a Budget
With all the recent financial turmoil and Sterling in freefall, it is easy to believe travelling abroad will soon be beyond our means. But, as long as budget airlines remain in business and there are countries with a lower cost of living than the UK, overseas holidays are still within our grasp. South Africa Although the South African cost of living has risen dramatically in recent years, it is still one of the best options for long-haul tourists. The South African Rand continues to give good value against Sterling. The type of holiday you want will determine when you should go. September and October are the best months to view game. Whale watching goes on from mid-June to the end of October. For river rafting go to the Cape at the end of winter, or to KwaZulu-Natal during their summer (November to mid-February). If the beach is your Holy Grail, it’s worth remembering the beaches of northern KwaZulu-Natal are warm and sunny even in midwinter. Bulgaria Steeped in history and with a low cost of living, Bulgaria gives both value and interest. From famous ruins to the traditional folk music ringing out from cobbled courtyards, Bulgaria has lots to offer. With basic commodities so much cheaper than the UK, it’s hardly surprising that eating out is not expensive, with the average cost of a meal with wine at about one third the price of a similar standard evening out in the UK. Alcohol and tobacco are both a fraction of the prices at home. Getting out and about to visit in cities is also fairly inexpensive as buses, trains and taxis are low
cost items for travellers. Car hire is another option, as petrol is low in price. More and more budget airlines are opening new routes to Bulgaria, with daily flights and internal transfers to the three main airports. Czech Republic Since 2004 the Czech Republic has become a favourite and inexpensive tourist destination. Wonderful countryside, historic castles, extensive walking and cycling trails, all make up the perfect package for the budget traveller. Prague is already well-known as a mini-break destination, but on longer visits, tourists can enjoy the unspoilt towns and villages and discover the country's rich history. Lednice, just a few hours from Prague, has an ancient chateau well worth visiting. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and has a self-supporting spiral staircase, carved from one gigantic oak tree. Valtice, situated in the heart of the stunning countryside, produces some fabulous white wines. Valtice Castle is home to the Salon of Czech Wine where visitors can sample more than 100 wines (but preferably not all at the same visit). Ryanair, Czech Airlines and EasyJet all have good offers on budget fares. Gibraltar Gibraltar is another good holiday location for someone on a budget because, although restaurant prices are similar to the UK, cigarettes, alcohol and perfumes are all much cheaper. Hotel prices are about ÂŁ80 a night, but it is possible to stay in cheaper hotels in neighbouring Spain and come in to Gibraltar each day. As an historic spot, there is much to see and guided tours are

available, but it is possible to view most places on your own. There are some lovely beaches. Gibraltar is often used as a wedding destination in fact it’s possible to get married in the same place as John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Budget airline, EasyJet, fly directly to Gibraltar. Being a small country, depending on where you stay, it is possible to walk everywhere and save on transport. Spain If sunshine and beaches are your idea of a perfect holiday, then Spain will always be a good budget destination. But if beaches aren’t your thing and you love tradition and history, then Spain would still come out near the top of any budget poll. The Spanish interior offers fabulous reminders of the country’s diverse past, from Moorish castles to Catholic monasteries. The cities are full of centuries-old buildings, wonderful restaurants and traditional tapas bars. Spain appears second on the list of most UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world, with the following cities being
designated as World Heritage Sites in their own right: Ávila, Cáceres, Cordoba, Cuenca, Mérida, Salamanca, Santiago de Compostela, Segovia, Tarragona, Toledo, Alcalá de Henares, Eivissa/Ibiza and San Cristóbal de La Laguna. Even with the strengthening of the Euro against Sterling, the low cost of living in Spain enables visitors to keep within strict budgets and still enjoy everything the country has to offer. FIFA World Cup 2010
After four years, the long awaited 2010 FIFA World Cup kicks off on 11th June in Johannesburg. This is the first time the World Cup has been organised in South Africa and is the first southern hemisphere country to host the tournament since Argentina in 1978. All eyes will be focused on the always-colourful opening ceremony, and the first game between host nation South Africa and a skillful Mexico side. The group and knock out matches will take place at the various locations in and around the country and the most important cities include, Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg, Durban, Pretoria, Bloemfontein and Cape Town. A total of 32 national teams have qualified for the FIFA tournament with a round-robin stage kicking off the competition. This consists of 8 groups with 4 teams in each group. The draw certainly threw up some wonderful and evocative pairings with the best 2 teams from each group moving on to the final knockout rounds, and the knockout round comprise of elimination games. This prestigious tournament will last for four weeks and there are a total of 64 exciting games that will feature in the event, culminating in the grand final to be held in the Soccer City Stadium, Johannesburg on 11th July 2010.
So, who are the favorites to win the 19th FIFA World Cup? Lets take a look at some of the teams that should be in the running to lift the coveted trophy on 11th July. Brazil The five time winners are joint favorites, with Spain, to win the 19th World Cup. Brazil are in great form, qualifying convincingly at the top of the South American group, and tasting victory in the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup. They are one of the strongest teams and will be confident of claiming their sixth World Cup championship. Spain The European Cup holders are joint favorites, with Brazil, and have recently been backed by the world’s greatest ever player, Pele, to claim their first championship. Following a flawless qualifying campaign, winning ten out of ten, Spain are the current number one team in the FIFA rankings, and will be the team to beat in South Africa.

England England finished top of a difficult qualifying group containing Ukraine and Croatia. Although, currently only ninth in the FIFA rankings, England would appear to have the talent to repeat their one World Cup success of 1966 and much will be expected of Fabio Capello's side. The form of experienced starts like Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard could be crucial. If England are to win the group and progress in the competition they would face a team from Group D which includes Germany, Australia, Ghana and Serbia. Argentina After trying their hardest not to qualify, Diego’s Maradona’s team, finally made it to the World Cup finals, and now they have sneaked in, they could be very dangerous. The team individually and collectively
will have to improve massively to make an impact in South Africa, but with a host of talent, including Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi, they will always be a threat. Germany Never rule Germany out. As they have shown, time and time again, Germany are a big-tournamentteam, who always perform at the highest level on the world’s biggest stage. Undefeated in qualifying the Germans are on course to have another successful World Cup. European Contenders Italy, Holland, France and Portugal are four European teams who shouldn’t be written off. Each team is capable of winning the World Cup if they can find their form at the right time. Italy and Holland topped their qualification groups, where as France and Portugal struggled and had to win playoff matches.

The Wickerman Festival A fun filled, family-friendly festival! 23/24 July 2010, Kirkcudbright The Wickerman

The Wickerman Festival, now in it’s ninth year, is the annual music festival held at East Kirkcarswell Farm, near Kirkcudbright in Dumfries and Galloway, dubbed 'Scotland's alternative music festival', takes place on Friday 23th & Saturday 24th of July. The main spectacular, is a 25 foot high wickerman sculpture based on the British horror film 'The Wicker Man' (1973) starring Christopher Lee and Edward Woodward and is set within a natural amphitheatre of 120 acres of prime Galloway grazing land. Around 15,000 revellers are expected to gather at the festival to see The Charlatans and Ocean Colour Scene heading up an eclectic billing at the July event. Other notable acts on the 2010 line up include Glasgow legends Teenage Fanclub. Sunderland's The Futureheads, veteran singer Tony Christie, tongue in cheek mayhem from The Saw Doctors and Welsh boys Goldie Lookin Chain. Diversity would appear to be high on the organisers booking policy when you also consider acts such as electro glam outfit Fenech Soler, Glasgow rock band Sons and Daughters, The Glasgow Gospel Choir, Amphetameanies, The Raw Kings and a whole host of DJ's for the Axis Sound System Reggae Tent. 808 State DJs will bring the main stage to a close with the post burning slot. Fans of old style punk will also be treated to performances in the Scooter Tent from The Undertones and The Buzzcocks along with local Lennoxtown based band The Counterfeit Clash. Festival Director Sid Ambrose said “We have over 100 acts across 8 stages with our aim being to make the Wickerman one of the most eclectic on the festival circuit.” Weekend adult tickets cost £85, teens aged 13-15 cost £42.50, kids 12 and under are admitted free. Tip 1: Getting Out of the Bunker I cannot tell you how often I see amateurs take more than two shots to get out of a greenside bunker, and the biggest reason for this is decelerating on your downswing before impact. This could lead to one of two problems. 1. Pulling out of the shot and therefore making direct contact with the ball which will most likely then fly far over the green, or 2. Dropping your shoulders too much causing you to hit further behind the ball than needs be which will lead to the ball staying in the bunker. Next time you are practising your bunker shots or even playing on the course, remember to get your feet well grounded into the sand and accelerate through the shot. Your stable footing will help you make a more even swing without needing to drop your shoulders and the acceleration will ensure that you get some check on the ball once it hits the green.

I.T. Blog by Colin Fyfe I write this blog on the back of quite an extraordinary coincidence. I was doing a job for a new client and was just explaining some solutions when the phone rings, she answers and disappears for a wee while. A couple of minutes later she reappears with a puzzled expression and explains that a heavily accented eastern sounding man had offered to fix her computer for her. He told her it was running slowly and he could help. She understandably thought that it was someone from my company at first before realising it was a scam. This is the third time I have heard of this among my own client base. The first time was about a year ago, the second two weeks ago and then again yesterday. Having googled 'computer cold calling scam' it seems apparent that it could be on the rise. The scammers initiate phone calls with their targets, at which point they may claim to be concerned representatives from Microsoft or an internet service provider. The caller attempts to convince the target that their computer has been infected or is running slowly (who's doesn't?), but can be fixed by following a few simple steps.

In order to achieve this 'fix' the unsuspecting victim is required to grant the caller remote access to their system and also provide personal credit card details in order shoulder a modest fee for the non-existent remote repair. If you think you have fallen prey to this scam it may be worth cancelling the credit card you paid with. Anyone for Tennis? As the Wimbledon Championships reach their finale, many people get inspired to start knocking a ball around a court or even just against a convenient wall. Tennis has a long and prestigious history, tracing its roots back to France in the 12th century. An ancient ball game played by French monks evolved into ‘real tennis’, a game played by hitting a ball with a bare hand and later with a glove. By the 16th century the glove was replaced by a racquet and the sport was played in an enclosed room. Rules were created and real tennis became the pastime of European royalty. Throughout the 16th and 17th centuries real tennis was enjoyed by the nobility in most European countries. However, English Puritanism stifled its journey and during the French Revolution the game was eventually abandoned due to its links with the aristocracy. In England, other racquet sports materialised and while real tennis enjoyed a short revival in Victorian times, the more popular and accessible outdoor game of lawn
tennis became the favoured sport of both men and women. The modern version originated in the late 19th century and the first Wimbledon Championships took place in 1877. Whether you play on grass or other surfaces, tennis is a sport that can be enjoyed by anyone who can hold a racquet. It is considered to be one of the best sports to play for all-round fitness. Tennis improves your cardiovascular health, helps your hand-eye coordination, flexibility and agility while increasing bone strength and density. As well as physical fitness, the game is excellent for mental agility too. It requires alertness, tactical thinking and above all, it’s fun. Motoring Review: Chevrolet Spark will be knocking them out for under £5k. That puts it in direct competition with Hyundai’s extremely competent i10, right at the sharp end of the list prices. But remember the Spark has an ace up its sleeve it’s got big screen pedigree. You may recognise it as one of the annoying twins from Transformers 2, although it’s unlikely it was the Spark viewers were lusting after the most. That accolade went to the bright yellow Camaro but nevertheless, some big screen product placement in a Hollywood blockbuster will do the city car no harm at all. There’s little doubt it’s been styled to attract more youthful buyers. Chunky bumpers, a cheeky ‘grin’ and smart headlights really make it stand out on the road. The back end isn’t as dramatic, but it’s tidy enough not to offend and the colour schemes are loud enough to match their target buyers’ taste in music. 2b Monreith Avenue Bearsden Glasgow 1NL Under the bonnet customers haveG61 the option of a 1.0-litre unit offering 68bhp or a larger 81bhp 1.2-litre petrol. Performance differences between the two aren’t dramatic the former will hit 60mph in 15.3 seconds, the larger unit in 12.1 seconds. But surprisingly it’s the baby of the duo that’s the better car to drive. City cars for the past five years have been where it’s all been happening. Exploding fuel prices, a desire to be more eco friendly and the credit crunch have all played a huge part in focussing the spotlight on the babies in carmakers’ ranges. Throw in the cash conscious buyers the scrappage scheme funnelled into dealers and city cars became the bread and butter of most showrooms’ daily business. But Chevrolet has set the stakes even higher for its Spark not only is it charged with notching up sales from price-fixated buyers, but the manufacturer also hopes it’ll attract younger buyers into Chevrolet’s 93 UK retailers. At first glance it certainly looks like it has the right credentials. That all important price starts with a six and under the last of the scrappage deals, the network
Both engines are a little unrefined with engine noise intruding at higher revs, but the 1.0-litre is peppy and good fun to keep on the boil. There’s little low down grunt, but keep it singing and you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Those diminutive engine proportions do wonders for fuel economy and emissions. The 1.0-litre returns 55.4mpg emitting just 119g/km and the 1.2-litre the same 119g/km while managing identical 55.4mpg. With no plans for a diesel, ruled out because of costs, these are likely to be as good as it gets. The Spark certainly handles well and has been set up satisfactorily for UK roads. Our test route incorporated some badly potholed surfaces in Northamptonshire and it coped admirably considering its size and dimensions. Steering is accurate and not badly weighted, but can lack a little feel at times.

Other complaints? Well, the gear stick is positioned a little too far back and it’s not the most precise shift. And you can tell where costs have been cut inside as the plastics are on the cheap side in the base model and a bit tacky in higher spec colour-coded models. Plus, we really couldn’t get on with the dash that seems to have been modelled on a child’s flight simulator toy.
As standard on the Spark + model, buyers will get air conditioning, electric front windows and central locking, along with a USB compatible four-speaker stereo. And that’s for £6,945. Another bonus is that it’s got five doors, but has been styled to look like a three-door. This will appeal to the younger audience while not putting off older family buyers.
But with that being said, it’s comfortable for a budget car, has a reasonable amount of room inside and a number of handy extras included.

Eat Well to Enjoy The Summer The warmer summer weather and the idea of holidays coming up is something we look forward to all year round. However, when the holiday comes closer, there is often the inevitable panic when last years summer clothes don't fit or you don't feel as confident in a swim suit as you once were. Yes we know that we should be eating healthily and exercising all year round but what can be done when we have left it that little bit too late? A month of eating well and taking regular exercise can make a real difference to your energy levels, fitness and how you feel about your body. Most people can safely lose between 4 pounds and half a stone in this time which, for women is about a dress size. Here is how in 5 simple steps: 1. If weight loss is your goal, it's all about the maths. You need to reduce your calorie intake by 600 calories per day or increase your activity by the same amount (or a bit of both). Start paying attention to the calories on food labels and ask yourself whether it is worth it. For example, missing out that morning latte and cake would cut about 300-400 calories and, adding in a half hour walk would spend the extra 200. Even if that is the only change you make, you will lose a pound a week. 2. Cut out all added fat including butter, oil, mayonnaise and cream. Each tablespoon contains 100 calories so it can easily add up when we use spread on bread and drizzle oil on salads (and yes, even olive oil contains the same calories) 3. Make sure you are drinking enough fluids. In warmer weather, we sweat more and so it becomes even more important to have about 2 litres of fluid a day. Don't trust your thirst for this. If you are not used to drinking fluids, you will be good at holding onto water and may well not feel thirsty. A good guide to hydration is the colour of your urine. If it runs clear or pale yellow, you are doing fine, any darker and you could do with more. 4. Cut out added salt or salty foods such as crisps and many ready meals. Too much salt in your diet, as well
as increasing the risk of high blood pressure, can cause your body to retain water and you to feel bloated (a good test is whether your rings or other jewellery feel tighter at the end of the day). 5. Reduce or cut out the alcohol. This has a major effect on your weight, energy levels and mood. Alcohol has almost the same amount of calories as fat does. Also, when we drink calories we are more likely to passively over-consume them, compared to eating food as we do not get the same feeling of fullness. Alcohol also reduces your blood sugar, making you crave high calorie foods and you probably don't need me to tell you that the possibility of taking exercise with a hangover is reduced! Planning these small changes can make a real difference and go part of the way to having a great summer!

Picking the perfect camera kit for happy holiday Whether you’re going to Butlin’s or Bermuda, you’ll want to record your holiday so you can enjoy the highlights later. A good camera or camcorder is a must-pack - but how do you find one that’s perfect and portable? COMPACT The best cameras for holidays are compact cameras, small enough to fit in a handbag or t r o u s e r pocket but powerful enough to cope with all kinds of photography. Don’t let the jargon blind you, though. For example, while manufacturers like to boast about how many megapixels their cameras have it really doesn’t matter that much. Megapixels tell you how many millions of dots each photo will contain, and once you get past six megapixels more dots don’t make much difference. Things that do matter include low-light performance look for numbers with the prefix F on the ring around the lens; the lower the better, so a camera that starts at F2.8 handles low light better than one that starts at F3.6 - and image stabilisation, which can detect little movements of your hand and compensate for them, preventing accidental motion blur from spoiling your snaps. Optical zoom lenses deliver sharper pictures than digital zooms, and cameras with CMOS sensors instead of the more common CCD sensors tend to work better in low light and deliver longer battery life. It’s very important to try different models out in the shop before ordering anything. Cameras that seem great on websites often turn out to have fiddly little buttons, feel cheap or flimsy in your hand or take forever to focus. CAMCORDERS Many compact cameras can also take video, but they tend to be limited in what they can do: for example they might only record short clips, or they might not let you use the zoom control while you’re recording. For proper video recording, you really need a camcorder.
Camcorders have changed dramatically in recent years, and current models tend to use memory cards or hard disks instead of tape or DVD. If you’re considering a hard disk-based camcorder, make sure you can expand its storage with memory cards: if it doesn’t and you fill the hard disk, you’ll need to delete some of your footage before you can record anything else. HD If you can spare the cash it’s a very good idea to get an HD (High Definition) camcorder to ensure that the footage you film now will look good on the HD TV you’ll undoubtedly have in the future. Affordable HD cameras tend to offer a resolution (quality) of 720 lines, which is better than DVD, while more expensive ones have 1080-line resolutions. HD needn’t mean expensive, although it’s important to be realistic: it’s possible to buy HD camcorders for £80, but nobody’s going to be selling hardware with good lenses, high quality sensors and decent build quality for that price. Expect to pay around £140 for a no-frills fun camcorder such as the Flip Mino HD that’s designed for creating YouTube-ready clips, or around £300 for a good all-rounder such as Panasonic’s SDR-H85 or Sanyo’s waterproof Xacti Wh1. We’ve left our most important holiday tips until last: shop around. Camera prices vary by an incredible degree – we’ve seen Sony’s high-end T900 camera for £419 in one outlet, but at £259 with purelygadgets.co.uk. Memory cards are just as bad: a SanDisk Ultra II SDFC memory card could cost you £35 or £89.99 depending on where you buy it. So do your research before parting with your cash
