Calling all parents: The counseling staff would like to put together a series of career talks for the students during the school day throughout first semester. Please email one of the counselors if you would be interested in speaking to the students about your chosen profession. Email should include your career and days and times you would be available. Counselor emails are: coxm@sbaeagles.org;brannonj@sbaeagles.org and scatess@sbaeagles.org  The counseling department would also like to organize a college tour for the summer of 2017. Email one of the counselors the colleges in which your student is interested. We won't be able to make it to all of the colleges, but we definitely want to visit the ones in which the students are most interested. Mary Cox, mcox@sbaeagles.org (9th grade & 10th grade-last names A-M); Jennifer Brannon brannonj@sbaeagles.org (11th grade & 10th grade-last names N-Z)

TAKE THE STAGE at SBA! Auditions for the fall play, The Phantom Tollbooth, TOMORROW, at 3:15 in the theater and are open to all students. Callbacks, if necessary, WEDNESDAY, at 4pm. Rehearsals start Sept. 5 with performances Oct. 20-24. The play is a classic children’s story and will be told in a highly theatrical and creative way. Auditions consist of readings from the script. Character descriptions will be available outside the theater. For more information, see Mr. Kathman. BOOK DRIVE: As part of her efforts to get her Girl Scout Gold Award, senior Megan Brown is coordinating a Book Drive for the Memphis Jubilee Schools. She has placed receptacles outside the library, in the main office and by the elevator. Any book level or type is appreciated as the Jubilee libraries are lacking a large variety.

NURSE NOTES

Welcome back to another school year! I just wanted to send out a couple of reminders from the health room. Students may NOT carry any medication with them. Over the counter medications can NOT be dispensed unless there is a prescription from a physician on file and the medication distribution form has been filled out by the parents and turned into me. If your child has any health issues that may affect their performance at school, please contact me. Occasionally, your child may need to miss school due to illness. Please consider these guidelines when determining if he/she should stay home:  Fever of over 100 degrees. Student’s temperatures should remain normal without the use of fever reducing medicine for 24 hrs prior to returning to school.  If your child is having vomiting or diarrhea they should be kept home and should not return to school until they have been symptom free for 24 hrs.  Redness or draining from the eye that is not due to an injury. If your child misses school due to illness, please make sure they are fully recovered before returning to school. Sending them back too soon not only exposes all those they come into contact with, but can prolong their recovery time. Look forward to a healthy year! SBA Project Graduation 2017

Dear St. Benedict at Auburndale Parents: Friday, May 12, 2017 is Graduation for St. Benedict Seniors. A tradition for the St. Benedict seniors is a drug and alcohol free “lock-in” given by the senior parents. Over 95% of our seniors participate each year and they have a wonderful time. We rent out Incredible Pizza and they have unlimited play time, as well as unlimited pizza, drinks and snacks. Whether your child loves go-karts, bowling, putt-putt, laser tag or lots of video games-there is something for everyone. Each child receives a goodie bag valued at over $150 as well as super door prizes that have included 32-inch flat screen TV’s, Microwaves and Gift Cards to name a few. It will also be the last time they will all be together as a group. Ticket price is $150 for those who pay now. The ticket price increases to $175 after September 30, 2016. The SBA Project Graduation committee also hosts two “Trivia Nights” in order to raise money to provide a funfilled night for our graduating seniors, to keep them safe and off the streets on graduation night. Our Project Graduation committee needs your help in a variety of ways. The 1st Trivia Night is Saturday, October 15 at 6:30 pm. We would like to invite you to be a part of this funfilled night as a sponsor, volunteer or player. Trivia Night is a competition of teams of “experts” on various subjects. It requires teams to answer 10 rounds of 10 questions about anything from science to nonsense. Prizes are awarded from sponsors’ donations to the winning 1st, 2nd and last place teams. Sponsor prizes are presented as door prizes after each round of questions.

We are also looking for parents of freshmen, sophomores and juniors to get involved with Project Graduation to keep this wonderful tradition going in order that the future years maintain the success level we have experienced. If you have underclassmen, please contact the project chair for volunteer opportunities. Also, we encourage you to consider co-chairing Project Graduation next year. On behalf of St. Benedict Project Graduation, we appreciate your help. Donations are tax deductible and we would also like to offer our sponsors complimentary notice in our SBA Annual Report. Again, thank you for your support of this important event. SENIOR PARENTS, BE SURE TO SEND IN YOUR STUDENT’S RESERVATION AND PAYMENT! Sincerely, Amy Iovinelli
