St. Benedict at Auburndale (SBA) High School is excited to present “The Phantom Tollbooth,” written by Susan Nanus and based on the classic children’s novel by Norton Juste. It is an epic American fantasy story that takes place entirely inside the boundless imagination of a young boy named Milo. When he receives a mysterious package one day that strongly resembles a tollbooth, Milo is swept off into a land of letters and numbers that out Oz’s Oz and is filled with more wonder than Wonderland. This SBA production will incorporate a wide variety of theatrical storytelling techniques, including shadow puppetry, special effects and even a little magic as Milo’s average bedroom is transformed into the kingdoms of Dictionopolis and Digitopolis. Appropriate for ALL ages and featuring a talented cast and crew of performers and technicians, the show runs on Thursday, Saturday and Monday, Oct. 20, 22 and 24, at 7 pm and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23. Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door. Sbaeagles.org or 260-2840, for information.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for Trivia Night on October 15 The first Trivia Night event supporting Project Graduation is coming up on Saturday, October 15 at 7:30 p.m. It’s a great night of fun with teams of 6-8 testing their knowledge of everything from scholarly topics to downright nonsense! But pulling it all together takes a team of volunteers. Between 8 and 10 parent volunteers will be needed to help set-up, run and take down the event. If you’d like to lend a hand, please visit the Trivia Night volunteer page on Signup Genius to add your name to the list of helpers. Another great way to help with this event is to donate $10 gift cards for prizes. Donated cards can be brought to the office to the attention of “PROJECT GRADUATION.” Teams can still be accepted; see the Trivia Night flyer in today’s Monday Mail to enter your team!

DATE CHANGE for October Teacher Treats! Mark Your Calendar for Tuesday, October 18… October’s “Teacher Treats Tuesday” is being moved to October 18; the previously announced date is a “no school” day for the SBA Faculty Retreat. October is a fun month to send in creative treats — so don’t be afraid to get silly, spooky or downright scary with those snacks! But do let the coordinators know that you plan to help out by visiting the Teacher Treats Signup Genius page at the following web address and adding your name to the list of helpers: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0b4aadac29a7fa7-201617 If you’ve already signed up online for the previously announced date, you’ll receive a notice about the date change.

SBA Project Graduation 2017

Dear St. Benedict at Auburndale Parents: Friday, May 12, 2017 is Graduation for St. Benedict Seniors. A tradition for the St. Benedict seniors is a drug and alcohol free “lock-in” given by the senior parents. Over 95% of our seniors participate each year and they have a wonderful time. We rent out Incredible Pizza and they have unlimited play time, as well as unlimited pizza, drinks and snacks. Whether your child loves go-karts, bowling, putt-putt, laser tag or lots of video games-there is something for everyone. Each child receives a goodie bag valued at over $150 as well as super door prizes that have included 32-inch flat screen TV’s, Microwaves and Gift Cards to name a few. It will also be the last time they will all be together as a group. Ticket price is $150 for those who pay now. The ticket price increases to $175 after September 30, 2016. The SBA Project Graduation committee also hosts two “Trivia Nights” in order to raise money to provide a funfilled night for our graduating seniors, to keep them safe and off the streets on graduation night. Our Project Graduation committee needs your help in a variety of ways. The 1st Trivia Night is Saturday, October 15 at 6:30 pm. We would like to invite you to be a part of this funfilled night as a sponsor, volunteer or player. Trivia Night is a competition of teams of “experts” on various subjects. It requires teams to answer 10 rounds of 10 questions about anything from science to nonsense. Prizes are awarded from sponsors’ donations to the winning 1st, 2nd and last place teams. Sponsor prizes are presented as door prizes after each round of questions.

We are also looking for parents of freshmen, sophomores and juniors to get involved with Project Graduation to keep this wonderful tradition going in order that the future years maintain the success level we have experienced. If you have underclassmen, please contact the project chair for volunteer opportunities. Also, we encourage you to consider co-chairing Project Graduation next year. On behalf of St. Benedict Project Graduation, we appreciate your help. Donations are tax deductible and we would also like to offer our sponsors complimentary notice in our SBA Annual Report. Again, thank you for your support of this important event. SENIOR PARENTS, BE SURE TO SEND IN YOUR STUDENT’S RESERVATION AND PAYMENT! Sincerely, Amy Iovinelli
