The Role Of Reputation And Signaling In Highly Fragmented Industries This paper was written by Richard S. Brown, Pennsylvania State University Harrisburg.

In this paper, I empirically test the reputationperformance relationship and the signalingperformance relationship. Integrating the reputation literature and signaling theory with industrial organization, I ask if there are positive performance effects to both (i) having a high reputation and (ii) signaling a high reputation in industries that are fragmented. Using a sample of eBay transactions, I find mixed results for the impact of reputation on performance but positive results for signaling reputation on performance. (pg. 11) Read Entire Paper Here
