RESOURCEGuidelines Resource Lending Library Policies and Procedures Please read the following Bible study resource lending library policies and procedures, as you are expected to adhere to these guidelines. Checking out a resource from our library confirms that you have read and will comply with these procedures. 1. Unless you have permission from the SBCV office, only keep the resource long enough to finish the study. For example, keep an 11-week study no more than four (4) months. Keep a 7-week study no more than three (3) months. This includes time for facilitator review, promotion and sign up, and a “cushion” should the group miss convening for whatever reason(s). 2. Do not give the resource to anyone, including members who may have missed sessions. We maintain a waiting list and try to meet the needs of others as quickly as possible. If you or someone needs to review a missed DVD, try doing so at www. lifeway.com/women. 3. If you lose or damage the resource, the cost will be billed to you as follows: • If a single DVD or VHS tape is lost or damaged, we are usually able to purchase individual replacements instead of purchasing an entire kit; however, if a single DVD or VHS is not available, you will be responsible for replacing the kit in its entirety. The cost of the replacement will be billed to you. (Note: VHS replacement may be limited due to DVDs replacing VHS-tape studies.) • If the entire kit is lost or damaged, you will be expected to replace it or you will be billed the entire replacement fee. 4. Check the resource before you return it to us. Make sure the kit is there in its entirety and that the videos are correct and in order. 5. We ship resources via UPS for insurance purposes. Please return the resource via UPS and keep the UPS tracking number on your copy of the UPS invoice or in another safe place. If the resource is lost during shipping, you can supply this to us if/ when we contact you. 6. Return the resource on time, as there may be another church waiting for it. We will email or call you if the resource is late.

These three women explored their lives and the life of David in this six-session women’s Bible study. Taped at the 2007 Deeper Still women’s event, the messages presented by these beloved authors are divided into three segments, two lessons from each author. Each segment focuses on the life of David at a different stage of his life: as a young man (sessions one and two by Priscilla Shirer), as a middle-aged man (sessions three and four by Beth Moore), and as a man facing the final third of his life (sessions five and six by Kay Arthur). You’ll laugh with them, cry with them, and learn to love God with them.

(Updated)

Explore the fascinating account of the building of the Old Testament tabernacle, the significance of its intricate design, its pivotal role in God’s eternal plan, the grand fulfillment of its purpose by Jesus Christ, and its variety of meanings for your walk with God today. Perhaps no Old Testament event so dramatically illustrates God’s persistent desire to relate to His children as the building of the tabernacle in the wilderness. Through the tabernacle, God initiated a deeper relationship with His chosen people by bringing reconciliation and revealing His glory. And certainly, no Old Testament event so richly prefigures the coming of the true Tabernacle, Jesus Christ. In this 10-week in-depth Bible study, you will be challenged to prepare your heart, like the holy of holies, to become a home for His love and glory—a dwelling place for the Most High God.

Believing God by Beth Moore (10 sessions) Based on Isaiah 43:10, Beth explores what it means not only “to believe in God” but “to believe Him.” The bride of Jesus Christ in our generation is nearly paralyzed by unbelief. God is calling His bride to a fresh and lavish anointing of faith. Through studying the lives of Abraham, Moses, and others as examples of persons who believed God, Beth encourages women to deepen their own trust in God and receive a fresh word from Him. Beloved Disciple: The Life and Ministry of John by Beth Moore (10 sessions) A note from Beth Moore: “Every disciple and early follower of Christ left a legacy for future believers. John’s legacy was love. Perhaps like no other disciple, John understood that relationship is the point. Every command of Christ and call to obedience is to enhance relationship and place the recipient in a posture the Giver can bless. This study is about finding our way to the heart of Jesus and reclining so closely that our pulse begins to throb in tandem, loving what He loves and hating what He hates.” Explore with Beth the life of the Apostle John who must have thought that he had seen everything. Having been with Jesus all the years of His ministry, John witnessed more miracles than he could count, saw more displays of power than he could comprehend, and experienced more love than he could fathom. John was there when Jesus turned the water to wine, offered Living Water to the woman at the well, yielded to His Father’s will in the garden of Gethsemane, and gave His life on a Roman cross. And one unforgettable morning, young John outran Peter to his Savior’s empty tomb. Yet God had more in store for the “Son of Thunder.” As the other disciples were martyred one by one, John remained to write his sublime Gospel proclaiming Jesus’ identity as the eternal Word of God. In his three letters, John left a legacy of divine love to ignite the passion of future believers. And while exiled on Patmos, John recorded His risen Lord’s glorious revelation of victory and hope. Brave by Angela Thomas (7 sessions) Brave: Honest Questions Women Ask Leader Kit by Angela Thomas is based on her trade book, “Do You Know Who I Am?” and Other Brave Questions Women Ask. This Bible study for women looks at the heart of what women are thinking and feeling. Angela speaks to participants about deep feelings that all women have at one time or another. She looks boldly at some of the fears and struggles of being a woman, and she helps us see how we can be brave in the face of those challenges. It takes a brave woman to ask these questions and dig into these topics alongside other believers. We’ve all got insecurities, flaws, and struggles that we’re afraid to address. But if we can be brave enough to raise the questions, God will answer us. You’ve got questions. God’s got answers. Be brave. Ask. • Why can’t I get it together? • Am I as invisible as I feel? • What am I so afraid of? Unlike many current Bible studies in the marketplace, this study does not necessarily build on the next from week to week. Therefore, the leader may choose the topic that most

relates to the group at that particular time. This approach lends itself to a great fill-in Bible study in women’s Sunday School classes and small group gatherings. For more information: lifeway.com/Keyword/brave Reserve it from the SBC of Virginia: sbcv.org/articles/detail/brave

Breaking Free by Beth Moore (10 sessions) Beth leads study participants through the Scriptures to discover the transforming power of freedom in Jesus Christ. Themes for this study come from Isaiah, a book about the captivity of God’s children, the faithfulness of God, and the road to freedom. This in-depth women’s Bible study draws parallels between the captive Israelites of the Old Testament and New Testament believers in Jesus as the promised Messiah. Beth looks at the Book of Isaiah through the lives of the kings who ruled during the prophet’s ministry. These kings exemplify many of the obstacles to freedom with which we must deal. Using Scripture to help identify spiritual strongholds in your life, no matter how big or small, Beth explains that anything that hinders us from the benefits of knowing God is bondage. Join Beth Moore on a Bible journey unlike any other. God intends for you to know and believe Him, glorify Him, experience His peace, and enjoy His presence. Breaking Free is Beth’s life message that she wants to share with you. Taped live at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church in New Orleans, this study includes testimonies of how women like you have found freedom and have been delivered from personal captivity. The Family of Jesus by Karen Kingsbury (6 sessions) This kit contains everything you need to explore the lives of Joseph, Zechariah, John the Baptist, Elizabeth, James, and Mary. Through Scripture and storytelling, Karen Kingsbury uniquely brings Jesus' family alive. Have you ever wondered what it would have been like to grow up in Jesus' home? In His community? What were His siblings and family members like? What traditions did the family observe? Everyone has a story including the family of Jesus. Families are important. There are parents, siblings, and extended family members who influence us, support us, and help us in good and bad times. For many, family is the setting where we first learn about God. Our families influence us in positive and negative ways, and the family of Jesus was no different. If Jesus was not influenced by them, they were definitely impacted by Him. The family of Jesus played an important role in God's story. Each person had his or her own story, but that story ultimately pointed others to Jesus. This Bible study takes a look at the lives of Joseph, the protective step-father; Zechariah, the knowing uncle; John the Baptist, the chosen cousin; Elizabeth, the faithful aunt; James, the doubting brother; and Mary, the loving mother. Through Scripture and storytelling this study digs deeper into the lives, the customs, the emotions, and the challenges of being a part of the family of Jesus during His crucial time on earth as God's Son. Each person has a strength and a struggle, all of which is culturally relevant to our lives today. For more information: http://tinyurl.com/FamilyOfJesus

Gideon: Your Weakness God’s Strength by Priscilla Shirer (7 sessions) When we hear the name Gideon, most of us think about his 300 soldiers or the fleece he laid out under the evening sky. But Gideon’s story is so much bigger than that—bigger than any one man and his mark on Israel’s history. Like everything else in the Bible, this is a story about God and His people. His love for them, as well as His strength operating in spite of their weakness—even through their weakness. And because God’s people include you and me, Gideon’s story is also about us—our lives, our doubts, our struggles, and our possibilities as believers. From a state of fear, weakness, and insecurity, Gideon emerged as Israel’s hero, filled with God’s presence and His passion for deliverance. This study will encourage you to recognize your weakness as the key that the Lord gives you to unlock the full experience of His strength in your life. In what ways do you feel insufficient? Those places create the greatest opportunity to experience the sufficiency of God. Instead of ignoring, neglecting, or trying to escape

God’s Story by Anne Graham Lotz (5 sessions) The Book of Genesis is something of a closed door for many people. Although the stories of creation, Adam and Eve, Noah and the flood, and the tower of Babel are fairly familiar, there seems to be a great lack of understanding about what meaning these stories have for our lives today. Anne will guide you through not only the main events of God’s story that are obvious to even the most casual person but also into places inhabited by God Himself. And in finding God, in coming to know Him as He describes Himself in His own words, you will find more than a Deity who created the universe. As you come face to face with the Creator of the universe, you will find the meaning of life for which you have been searching. Hebrews: The Nearness of Jesus by Lisa Harper (7 sessions) The Book of Hebrews is a rich, dense section of Scripture that can intimidate the most scholarly biblical student. But Lisa Harper makes digging into Hebrews fun and doable, as only she can, without losing an ounce of depth. Hebrews was a sermon for a specific people and culture in the midst of martyrdom and persecution, but is also so relevant for us today, reminding us to continue walking toward Jesus regardless of our culture or our circumstances. James: Mercy Triumphs by Beth Moore (7 sessions) James, Jesus’ own brother, started out as a skeptic. See how one glimpse of the resurrected Savior turned an unbeliever into a disciple. Bible scholars compare James to the prophet Amos. In other ways, James more closely resembles the Book of Proverbs than any other New Testament book. Topics in this study include: joy, hardship, faith, reversal of fortunes for rich and poor, wisdom, gifts from above, singlemindedness, the dangers of the tongue, humility, and prayer. Beth is introducing a five-tiered study approach that she has never done before. • Level 1: Watch the video sessions only. • Level 2: Watch the video sessions and do the homework each week. • Level 3: Watch the video sessions, do the homework each week, and, as you study, write out the entire Book of James. • Level 4: Watch the video sessions, do the homework each week, write out the Book of James, and complete the “What could I do to go deeper?” section each week. This section was written in collaboration with Beth’s daughter Melissa. • Level 5: Watch the video sessions, do the homework

Living Your Life as a Beautiful Offering by Angela Thomas (7 sessions)

What do we do when God interrupts our lives? Many times, like Jonah, we run! In this Bible study, Priscilla redefines interruption and shows that interruption is actually God’s invitation to do something beyond our wildest dreams. When Jonah was willing to allow God to interrupt his life, the result was revival in an entire city.

Angela encourages women to rekindle their hearts by returning their lives to God. How can an imperfect life with blemishes and scars reflect back to God a true gratefulness for His love? Jesus knows you are not perfect, but He also knows that you are made perfect in Him, if only you will come and surrender to Him daily. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus gives us His compassionate instruction for everyday living and then wraps His teaching with the promise of His blessing. “Jesus wants us to learn to live in a way that reflects the kingdom of God to the world, to live as a woman with a kingdom heart,” writes Angela. “I truly want to be that woman. And Jesus says that when you are, it’s beautiful and blessed.”

Return to the Garden: Embracing God’s Design for Sexuality by Kay Arthur (6 sessions) This interactive Bible study is an honest, redemptive call to recognize and return to God’s standards for purity. Kay’s straightforward lessons from Scripture focus on love, sex in marriage, purity, modesty, and examples of how men and women should relate to each other. These timely messages are for women, whether married or single, mother or daughter. Daily we’re confronted with messages that say, subtly and not so subtly, “Sex sizzles”; “Sex outside of marriage is okay”; and “Everybody’s doing it.” How’s a woman to live? Kay writes from the perspective of one who has experienced God’s grace and voices heartfelt concern for a sex-saturated society that has forgotten how to blush. From the beginning of time, our sexuality and distinctiveness as women has been front and center with God. We are designer goods, designed by God, no less! Sacred Roads: Exploring the Historic Paths of Discipleship by Heather Zempel (5 sessions) This young adult Bible study looks at valuable practices from many different traditions and how we can incorporate them into our contemporary faith formation. Throughout history, people have gravitated toward different methods of discipleship. For a while, discipleship was entirely relational— early church small groups. When Christianity became the legal religion of the Roman Empire, discipleship became experiential—cathedrals, Stations of the Cross, iconography, and taking mass. With the Reformation came intellectualism— people started studying the Bible for themselves and emphasized the conversion of the mind. Later it became personal—the onset of the personal quiet time. Finally, discipleship became incarnational—occurring while serving or through missions. Sacred Roads takes a look at a few faces of discipleship, including relational discipleship, experiential discipleship, intellectual discipleship, personal discipleship, and incarnational discipleship—finding the worthwhile attributes of each and providing practical ways to implement each expression into our modern pursuit of Christ. Seed Packet #1 by Priscilla Shirer (6 sessions) Pack #1 Sessions: Forgotten: Unnoticed, unappreciated, ignored, undervalued, over-looked, invisible. At one time or another, we have had these feelings. At one time or another we have made other people have these same feelings because of our actions. What does God say about the forgotten in His Word? Priscilla reminds us that God notices our worth and cares for us at all times and in all seasons. (Run time: 9 minutes) Enough: Wanting more and wanting better are things that come naturally to us. Anxiety, worry, and concern often accompany those feelings. We have everything we need right here for us today. God is a good Father, and He has taken care of you up to now and will continue to. His gifts are good, and they are always good enough. God is enough to take on the task ahead and enough to finish the job. (Run time: 7 minutes) Control: Living life under the authority of God is difficult at times. Taking the lead in our own life story is a tendency of many of us. We all want to do the leading and have the control in our own life. Giving that up is difficult, but it is what God requires of us—and when we do so, we really can see that it has a beautiful result. Seed Packet #2 by Priscilla Shirer (6 sessions) Pack #2 Sessions: Armor: Many days we live our lives like the Enemy doesn’t exist, until something bad happens we can forget that the Enemy has his sights on us. He doesn’t want you to pursue the will of God in your life, so he will do whatever he can to distract you and stop you. Priscilla speaks about our own spiritual armor and discusses how we can stand firm against the schemes of the Devil. (Run time: 12 minutes) Five: The routine of sin in our lives happens more than we would like to admit. At first, we may happen upon it by accident, but quickly we fall in to the routine of sinning. This session finds Priscilla speaking of the bad habits we all seem to find ourselves in the middle of. Whether it is our fault or not, we often keep going back to the same unhealthy cycles over and over again. Paul speaks of the same thing when he says in Romans that, “for that which I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do but am doing the very thing I hate. For the good that I wish, I do not do but I practice the very evil that I do not wish.” (Run time: 8 minutes) Glory: Do you let God into the details of your life? Why is it easier to see God working in big decisions and broad brushstrokes throughout time rather than intimately involved in the mundane details of our day? God is very aware of the details of your life. He wants to be involved in every little portion of your day. We often get overwhelmed with the big picture of our life and everything that we need to get accomplished. This session helps change our perspective to take our eyes off the year ahead and the worries that come with that, but instead to remember that our life is made up of today and God will take care of the rest. To Live Is Christ: The Life and Ministry of Paul by Beth Moore (11 sessions) Join Beth on a journey into the life and heart of Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, who served faithfully and loved heartily. You will discover him to be a man who formed many close friendships with both men and women. More than any other person, Paul provides us an example of sold-out servanthood. He understood what it means to die daily, crucified with Jesus Christ. As a result, Paul shows us how to live as a bond servant to Christ. As you study the Book of Acts and Paul’s letters, you will come to know the characters personally. Most of all you will feel the challenge to follow Paul’s example just as he followed the example of Christ. When Godly People Do Ungodly Things: Arming Yourself in the Age of Seduction by Beth Moore (7 sessions) In this biblical guide to authentic repentance and restoration, Beth examines why devoted followers of Jesus Christ can fall into the traps of Satan. Christians are still subject to Satan’s attacks. He is determined to disrupt the lives of believers, destroy their ministry, and steal their joy. Sadly, those who have “fallen” may not recognize the Devil’s schemes until they have already been caught in a snare of defeat. This study is written in three parts. The first part is a warning to believers, while the second part shows women how to prepare for attacks by the Enemy. The third part is directed to those who have been snared by seduction and compassionately points the way back to God.
