Casually browsing the Tedtalk lectures one day - a talk titled Do Schools Kill Creativity? by Sir Ken Robinson caught my attention. It made me consider the lack of music lessons there were whilst I was in Primary school. From here onwards the idea of jrDrop snowballed into a self - initiated project. jrDrop is a portable (landscape layout) iPad App that will be placed in Primary School classrooms across the UK. It’s aim is to give children a wider range of global music to learn, play and explore - whilst still keeping that element of fun in the classroom during music lessons.

A small shop in Yorkshire called Handmade in Helmsley contacted me about stocking my illustration works in their store starting June 2013 - this is how Strange Occurrences came to light - this isn’t just any old calender however, there is small monthly tasks and daily doings that you must complete to move on to the next month - my design focus was for this piece to be interactive and playful

Chinese Whispers ( 傳話遊戲 ) was a brief which entitled you to chose a topic of your choice to explore through book design. My aim was to promote myself as an illustrator at that time and so I chose to explore my personal illustrated diary of my time spent in Hong Kong . This developed into a narrative which involved England’s popular childrens game, Chinese Whispers.

This self-directed project aimed to improve my use of limiting colour and story telling, whilst also aiming to improve my story boarding of narrative. Using digital drawing as my main medium I tried to create an atmosphere which would attract my target audience with excitement by testing and exploring various view points and characters.

A live brief which enabled me to work closely with my client. The Bambooman project aimed to advertise a hip hop club night in Nottingham - I also decided to advertise Bambooman as an artist by screen printing T-shirts and flyers for the event.

An Editorial Design brief with a twist! Given as a project by Hong Kong Design Institute, the twist for me as a Westerner was this book had to be bilingual. With limited knowledge in written Cantonese I was given guidance by Google translate and my class via MSN. However, the brief was insightful and a great challenge. My aim for this project was to explore four European cities which I’d visited and collected primary research from previously and to then deliver this information in a clean, crisp and inviting format.

A self initiated brief which enables me to explore my inner entrepreneurial side. The aims of this project were to explore my self branding as a creative illustrator and designer to those out in the industry - using screen printing as my medium for this project, I decided to produce a set of T-shirts, posters and leaflets which were all largely influenced by my years study in Hong Kong at Hong Kong Design Institute.

The aims of this project was to present a design proposal effectively to clients and audiences from various backgrounds the slogan - ‘Enhancing Learning Experience’ . Our job was to try and enhance the learning experience of students who will study at the new Kwun Tong campus (which is in conjunction with HKDI) starting summer 2014. Working with team members of multidisciplinary backgrounds, this being two graphic designers and two interior design students, we were able to combine our knowledge of design in our specialist areas and focus our direction towards the idea of creating the feeling of a ‘homely environment’ in the new school - for a sense of comfort and familiarity whilst approaching a new experience of university life.

Least when I very expect it something will happen, be it on the underground, as I’m doing my food shop, as I’m cycling back from the studio, all of these exciting daily happenings go into my sketchbook. It’s a way for me to keep a track of all things I find interesting. It also helps to reflect back to if say, I’m given a specific brief and I have a situation sketched down that comes in handy. I carry a sketchbook everywhere and have done for many years. It’s important to my practise as a creative to keep my ideas flowing. Here is a small preview as to my most recent sketchbook adventures.

Books have always intrigued me, since reading as a young child to admiring the illustrations and bind of a book - it’s a love that never grows old. Here is a small selection of books I have made over the years. Enjoy!
