Employers actively seek out our students for cadetships due to the industry-relevant and practical training offered in this course. These qualifications provide excellent employment opportunities, financially rewarding career prospects and the possibility of employment both nationally and internationally. Description: This course will fast-track your career in civil engineering by developing your design and drafting skills. You will learn how to design and produce drawings for a variety of public facilities such as roads, pipelines, dams, bridges, steel and concrete structures. Your studies will cover a wide range of occupational fields, from CAD programs to surveying and construction. This Associate Degree incorporates the Diploma of Computer Aided Drafting, and is a higher education sector qualification. Further study options: Successful completion of this program may assist you to gain entry into relevant degree courses at The University of Queensland (UQ) and Griffith University (GU) through the usual QTAC application process, and may contribute toward study credits.

Career opportunities: Architectural Draftsperson/ Technician, Building Designer, BIM Technician (3D Building Information Modeller), CAD Manager, CAD Technician or other roles in an architectural, building design, construction/building developer or engineering design office. Also other positions in companies associated with the building industry such as window, truss or pre-cast concrete manufacturers. Description: This course focuses on developing your skills using technology to design, draw and present buildings in 2D and 3D. The course covers the principles of building construction, interpreting client briefs, building design, drawing and 3D modelling. You will learn to draw and create computer generated 3D building models using the latest software. Further study options: Bachelor of Design (Architectural Studies, Industrial Design, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture) (QUT), Bachelor of Environmental Studies (Architectural Studies) (Griffith Uni). Successful completion of the diploma may assist you to gain entry into these university courses through the usual QTAC process and may contribute toward study credits. Career opportunities: Draft person working on residential or commercial projects under supervision of architects or building designers, interior designers, builders or project administrators; kitchen/bathroom designer, or self-employed following the appropriate industry experience. Graduates have the opportunity to join the Design Institute of Australia (DIA) as a Graduate Member which, with additional workplace experience, leads to Associate Membership. Description: This diploma will develop your practical skills in modelling, planning and undertaking refurbishments based on an interior designer’s concept. Topics include design sketches, construction methodology, manual and computer-generated technical drawings, client presentations and selection of materials, colour schemes, fabrics, furniture, fixtures and finishes. FURTHER STUDY OPTIONS: Bachelor of Design – Interior Design (GU) and Bachelor of Design (QUT). Successful completion of the diploma may assist you to gain entry into these university courses through the usual QTAC process and may contribute towards study credits. Other options at SBIT include: Vocational Graduate Certificate in Architectural Digital Illustration.

In 2010, a former SBIT student won the prize for best GPA in Interior Design at Griffith University. By taking the SBIT pathway to Griffith on completion of her Diploma, she walked away with both the Diploma and Degree after just three years.

Description: Revit’s parametric technology means you can make a change anywhere in a building project and it is automatically updated everywhere else. This short course teaches you how to produce 2D drawings, 3D models and digital presentations using Revit Architecture software. further study options: Diploma of Building Design or Interior Technology. So if you didn’t get the right OP it’s not the end of the world. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) RPL is a process that allows the competencies you already possess to be recognised (regardless of how you obtained them) with a formal qualification. These might include skills you picked up on the job or from other life experiences that do not necessarily include formal training. For more information visit southbank.edu.au/rpl.

Aside from an array of career and employment resources, you will find qualified and experienced Career Counsellors who can help you with information and advice on future career and employment options. Prospective and current students are welcome. The Centre is open Monday to Friday and is located in the campus heart, just off Ernest Street.

FEE-HELP and VET FEE-HELP At SBIT you can access the Federal Government’s student loan schemes. FEE-HELP assists full fee paying students to pay for all or part of their tuition fees. Eligible students can use FEE-HELP at SBIT for the Associate Degree in Civil Engineering. VET FEE-HELP assists eligible full fee paying students to pay for all or part of their tuition fees when studying an approved VET course of study at the diploma, advanced diploma, vocational graduate certificate or vocational graduate diploma level.
